Sam was a true original, if you look on this page there are actually two other Sam Kinison interviews; one is the first Steve & Garry interview with Sam, but it's only partial, and the other is Sam with guitarist Slash. Of course there are tons of other vids of Sam here on YT as well. You might also look further into Steve Dahl the original free-form comedy radio DJ, as well as Bill Hicks, George Carlin, and the original 'extreme' comedian Lenny Bruce. Later.

Thanks for posting, ShockJock. I also had copies of the other apperances Sam did on the Steve and Gary show. On one of them, Slash of Guns and Roses came in with Sam....so funny.

I may have that one.

Does Steve post any of those shows on his podcast? I've since moved out of state.

I know Steve is working on releasing classic stuff via his website (and more than likely iTunes, etc.) but for now the only place that I've seen any 'bonus' material of classic bits is via the DahlCast app. Soon this channel may be unnecessary and obsolete (though what I have is quite limited compared to Steve's archives).

If you ever find those other Sam Kinison appearances send me a message, I'd love to post them here or at least here it, Sam with S&G was always a great time!

I know the power of the FCC first hand... They locked me up for 7 years for running an uncensored pirate radio xmitter out of my house.

It is amazing that they consider it the "public airwaves" but then control every aspect of them (including content!) but of course I'm sure they would say that it's for the public's "greater good" and all that.

Pirate radio is a matter of spectrum allocation though (yes, I too am a nerd) and as I obviously don't know anything about your case it usually boils down to that.

P.S. the last thing you do when someone drops an F bomb on air is talk about it extensively. Whatever woman is in studio here is probably no longer in radio, or is a nobody.

Carrie Cochran was the news person at that time so I'm sure she knew what was up. But keep in mind that we've since moved in a very backwards direction in that the FCC has actually gotten a stricter. I'm not too sure how that happened (though I have my theories, too many goddamn PC extremist Republicans and do-gooder Democrats) but it was a different world in radio in 1988 compared to what it is now. An accidental word would never have triggered the over-blown response it would now, sadly.

howard stern has said his greatest influence in radio was steve dahl and i think dahl would be proud to see his style of radio go mainstream with howard

Well that's news. I'd love to see ANY quote EVER where Howard Stern has mentioned Steve Dahl in an even remotely positive light. All I've ever heard Howard do is claim that Steve (and everyone) is ripping him off, which of course is impossible in the case of Steve since Steve was around doing that type of radio first. I'm a fan of both but the true time-line of radio history PROVES that Steve Dahl really was the first of the so-called shock jocks.

Well, maybe not wasted at the exact time of this interview but surely both had done some serious partying, together and separately (I seem to recall some hilarious storied about Steve and Sam.) Paraphrasing the legendary Bill Hicks not all drug stories or drug experiences are negative. I'm sure the problem comes when it becomes habitual and an addictive type of scenario, but Sam and Steve were both able to overcome their demons and still be damned funny!

I used to listen to these guys religously. I still have tapes that I made of some of their shows. One or two w/ Sam. I still haven't listened to the whole interview here, but I might have this on tape. Of course, this is better now. I even called in once but I choked. I was very nervous but Steve and Garry were cool. At least I didn't chicken out and hang up.

I wish I had some of the other Sam Kinison interviews. I have one more that is a partial clip (damn cassettes!) but this interview is the only one that I had the whole S&G show of.
