The whole guitar VIBES in your hands. When the notes sustain on my Marshall DSL 2000 they hit 2nd order harmonics! Come to think of it, all my PRS guitars do, but this ONE thew MIRA x with the 24.5 inch scale has harmonics jumping out all over the neck/ Is it a ONE trick pony like a Les Paul Special, Ehh, if you go in with a soldering iron and split the pick ups you'll get 3 more tones albeit with some volume loss. It is a FUN guitar to play, and as Paul has shown can get some EXCELLENT tones
I wish I could take that vacuum that guy uses to suck up the dead scalp particles and bash it over his gay ass head. Sick of that friggin commercial. And where is the Taylor? I ain't watching no more GW videos till thay break out ol' faithful.
How does the Mira X handle higher gain settings? (for riffing/powerchords) Kinda like the last tone at the end, just wish he'd played a riff or two ;)
I'm debating between this and a SE Custom 24 25th Anniversary
nice guitar... but the regular Mira's sound wayyyyy bettter.. and they're only like 200 hundred bucks more.. shell out the extra dough and get the nicer guitar which also has coil tapping
what the hell. they have to downgrade everything about the guitar-mahogony to basswood, "special" humbuckers, pao ferrel fretboard, no locking tuners...all to shave a mere $300 dollars?
great video about the mira x, but im having a hard time deciding over a regular mira in korina wood and a mira x, they are both the exact same price where im getting them from so what is the difference between a mira/miraX?
I usaly Don't like Paul From Guitar worlds Review's of Guitars but he actually did this one well he didn't stop and talk to much he gave it a good sound demo and clean-high gain and it was well played
I just bought a Mira (not the X) - differences are: Body carve is flat on the X, but has contour carves on both horns, and a body cutaway for more comfortable picking/arm placement. Mira has east indian rosewood fretboard, 24 frets, and the (awesome) phase II locking tuners, plus crescent moon inlays instead of the Mira X's pearl dots, and the Mira has wide thin OR regular neck cut ( the X has only wide fat). Lastly (but not least) is that the Mira has a coil tap - the X does not.
The Mira and the Mira X both have the £1,000 price tag in the UK so I fail to see how this is more affordable but it's a great guitar in it's own right.
played afew of these and i must admit they sound really bad, amazingly well made guitar but it just doesnt sound right pickup wise, it was barely passable when coil tapped.
A pickup swap to Dimarzio PAFs sorted a friend of mines out, its still a quality guitar but i dont think the pickups really help it
On the med-gain setting, with my eyes closed, I was listening, and I do not know if it's the amp, or the pickups, but doesn't it sound almost like the notes "chirp" a lil bit on the front end of the note??
I only ask out of pure curiousity(sp?). But if someone else can hear it, could you tell me why it's doing that?
"It's not regular basswood," confirms Paul Reed Smith. "Look, korina isn't really korina, it's African limba wood, but because no one liked that name they re-named it korina. it's kind of like an African basswood in its feel but it's not the same genus"
Why wouldn't you just buy a Gibson Melody Maker? Its MUCH cheaper, it looks almost identical to my 64 Melody Maker (except I have the single coil version with a Maestro Vibrola), It's almost exactly the same body shape and sunburst color, even the neck. I speak from experience, you won't find a better playing guitar!
Nothing wrong with Basswood, some of the best guitars are made with Basswood including my own JS1000. John Suhr calls the combination of Basswood with a Maple cap the holy grail of tone.
most peoples "holy grail" is a burst, and thats mahogany with a maple cap. but to each his own. im not trying to say basswood is bad. but like dirtyfknmouth said. the melody maker is way cheaper and if you rout it for humbuckers, becomes the same guitar with better wood (imo)
Ya I like how Paul says this is an affordable guitar! YA RIGHT! For who I ask! Musician's Friend has this guitar on SALE right now for $1,279.00 and retails for $1,999.00. Affordable? No not affordable 3-500 dollars is affordable!
What kind of Dean guitar is that? I don't know of any high quality guitars made by Dean except for maybe the Dean USA Lesie West Signature Limited Edition which sells for $4000. And if I had $4000 to spend on a guitar I still wouldn't spend on a Dean guitar. I spend it on a real guitar like a Gibson Custom Joe Bonamassa Aged Les Paul Goldtop.
@tannerleudy36, The Dean Soltero is a want to be Gibson Les Paul made for those who don't have the cash for a Gibson. Dean Zelinsky also admits that he loves Les Pauls and that is the reason why he designed the Soltero because the Les Paul is out some peoples price range. I'm not just a blues fan. I love classic rock and heavy metal also.
@MannyBlue65 yeah but i have two les pauls two telecasters two strats and i still bought the soltero cause it was great and i do admit that it is a copy of the les paul but it was a good guitar
It's affordable for a proffesional and nice sounding guitar. You might find a nice sounding guitar for $500-$600 dollars, but this is a PRS. True craftsmanship and you really are getting what you pay for. Excellent instrument.
go to musicians friend and look up a Gibson Melody Maker (sunburst finish). The Joan Jett model has this exact body shape, but the others they have on there have more of a Les Paul body shape. They're single coil and 1 humbucker (JJ model) but you can find them in 2 humbucker configurations. Musicians friend just stopped selling those about a year or so ago. I'm sure ebay would have used ones for sale. The single coil models are under 500 bucks new.
@northlander30 the 1.999.00 is the price PRS THINKS it should sell for, they just say "Sale" price because they want it to sell. for a US PRS it's a pretty good pirice.
your just pissed cause he can solo with his technique and you ant solo at all, plz dont dis paul, he is a beast and as my good friend smoky would say" and you know this, man"
All the compression from the uploading of these videos alter the sound a lot and do no justice to the guitars at all really. They sound so much better in real life. But let's face it, everyone just loves to watch Paul play!
What key is he playing in on the clean part!!! I just love that sound!
