Just FYI, I was hitting the targets the majority of the time. Sometimes they ping, sometimes they don't. The metal targets didn't fall over when hit with the 45 out of such a short barrel, but most did when hit with the 9mm carbine. Some of them wouldn't fall over even if hit with 10mm. They have things behind them preventing it. Those targets are beat to hell and don't work well. The last gun was a Ruger 22lr, I was shooting clay pigeons on the dirt berm in the back at 25 meters rapid fire.
The PT145 was quite accurate for its size. It's not going to outshoot a 5" 1911 though. It makes a great carry pistol but I would use something bigger for home defense. The Sub2000 carbine would be my choice for HD if I was going to wait for the BG to come to me. If I had to clear the house I would use a pistol though.
I have to say this, if you want good home defense take bofor 40 mm gun and put it somewhere on your house. its better than 12 gauge shotgun when talking damage and looks better than sub 2000. Only problem maybe come when you want move it, because it's damn heavy. Same problem may come when you are shooting it, its big, noisy and damn illegal. But hey! It looks cooler than sub2000 and do lotmore damage than shotgun actigually you don't need worry about him just clean the house and fix the wall...
The best home defense option for most is the 12 gauge shotgun. It does a lot of damage but penetrates walls less than any other viable option. Yes, less than a pistol.
I'm sorry, I should have added that it depends on what round you use. A shotgun loaded with slugs may just be the worst option, as far as over penetration is concerned. I use 00 buck, 2 3/4" reduced recoil is fine.
LOL, well you may have a point, but I was hitting the targets with most of my pistol shots. I shoot there a lot. You can hear the pings from some of them but not all. Even when shooting the carbine some of them didn't go down.
Also I didn't do too bad shooting the clay pieces at 25yds with the Ruger MKII!
A pointless comparison. If you're going to bother handling a long weapon, then you can have MUCH more power than the 9mm, anyhow. Pistols serve their purpose, carbines theirs--each should shoot the best cartridge for the job. A .45 is a GREAT pistol cartridge with a LONG history of success as far as pistols go. Most carbines today are 5.56, and are FAR more effective than 9mm.
You're reading too much into it. I was only demonstrating the increased effectiveness of 9mm out of the longer barrel, not comparing to rifle calibers.
However, pistol caliber carbines are excellent for certain uses IMHO such as home defense. Low flash and noise, simple to operate and extremely controllable by anyone in rapid fire, more powerful and way more accurate than pistols, and cheap to shoot and practice with.
Ok buddy, its simple physics. Comparing the knockdown power of a pistol versus a carbine is ridiculous. The longer barrel allows the bullet to utilize more energy from the powder, thus making it travel faster. The .45 will always provide more transferrable energy than the 9mm. 1. The meplat is much larger than that of the 9's therefore transferring more energy.
The hipoint 995 (9mm Luger) retails for about the same as the 4095 (.40 S&W). They are also comming out with a .45 version within weeks. The Hi-Point carbines are fine rifles, don't let the gun snobs fool you! I have about 2,000 rounds in my 995 and not ONE issue. Very light and durable.
Don't get me wrong, Kel-Tec makes a fine product, but for under $200 it's a great option that most don't think of. That and it's UBER accurate:)
I was trying to decide on which of the 2 to get but I have decided on the Keltec as the HP 995 only has 10rd mags while you can get the KT that accepts glock 17 mags and get the 33rd mags.
The 9mm was Winchester 115gr. The .45 was Blaser Brass 230gr. The PT145 has only a 3.25" barrel though, kind of short for a .45 so they are not going as fast as they would be out of a 5" 1911.
That was the point I was trying to get across. 9mm is not as powerful as .45, but the 200fps increase through the carbine barrel makes it more powerful than the .45 out of the pistol.
actually that is not true, a normal .45ACP load will not gain much power by a longer barrel which excess the normal 5", a HK UMC gets only 5-10% gain from its polygon barrel compared to standard 1911 pistol. this is because the powder of the load is burned after about 5-6" and then the pressure even drops. that is a bit different with the 9mm since this caliber tends to work well on short as on long barrels since the volume in which the gas can expand is not as big as in the .45.
and that the .45 has more power to it with a standard 230grs ball over a 9mm 115grs is obvious.
and knocking them offer is more about placement then power, those pin steels are easy pry for a .22 if hit high, but even a hot .44mag could fail if you only hit the steel right over ground.
That was an excellent demo of the power and accuracy of the little SUB-2000. I have a 9mm subbie and it's my favorite. (Shhhh. Don't tell the PLR-16) I like it so much, I want a .40 S&W SUB-2000. Who needs two subbies? But I want one anyway.
Great demo! Thanks much!

people can talk all the shit they want but when you shoot one these carbine you can feel the extra power is definetly there.

He can't hit those stationary targets, he'll suck some more if he can't hit moving targets as well.

is it actually a surprise that a bullet with more barrel to burn the powder is gonna hit harder?

Yes I was looking at 00 or just plain buck shot - agreed a slug would not be a good idea.
I'll have to look at some reduced recoil options - thanks

looks like the guy that posted this video just is not able to control a firearm! My 15 yr old daughter shoots better than that!
rongi101 4 years ago
Next, if you hit the targets too low then leverage issues come into effect. if you put the .45 in a carbine the story would be completely different.

what grain bullets on the .45??? 147grain +p+ in a 9mm pistol could possibly very well knock them down also..
velocity will get better penetration..
weight of the bullet is what causes the target to fall over easier.. but velocity does help in this case..

That plus the fact that the carbine gives you a longer sight radius which makes it easier for you to make more precise hits on target.
