In that same amount of time 9 million new job seekers entered the work force. In case you can't subtract, thats 6.4 million job seekers that can't find work and they are not counted in the unemployment numbers given by your department of labor.

I would assume you like France...well France's unemployment rate was 9.0% in July 2006, while the US rate was 4.8(down to 4.7 in August) Actually the Unemployed rate in America is lower than that of France-9.0, Germany-10.5, and UK-5.5.
