@AsiDie888. wow... i truly did never have such a major idiot respond to some 11 month old comment before...
mdb sound nothing like pl. they are considered a bad imitation of pl by not a single person in the entire doom scene. only by you, but nobody cares about you.
theatre of tragedy's album is seen both as death/doom or as gothic, quite like how iron maiden is both heavy metal and power metal.
their second album is also gothic metal. they are not and never were symphonic metal.
Early gothic metal was mostly doom/death bands inspired by the gothic rock scene (bands like Sisters of Mercy and Christian Death). It's hard to define ''true gothic'' metal, but it all started with doom :)
@TwilightAronXD Exactly you know what you are talking about. Gothic Metal was born from Metal bands who also liked eighties Gothic Rock bands such as The sisters of Mercy Fields of the Nephilim and The Mission. Gothic Rock mostly disappeared in the nineties and was absorbed into the Metal scene who kept it alive with bands such as Paradise Lost and the early Gathering.
Gothic just added Soprano to death/doom. that is an extremely thin relationship to gothic metal. beauty and the beast =/= gothic metal. you should bloody know that.
and Icon already moved well away from the entire general area, sounding even less like gothic metal at all.
Paradise lost are not pioneers of gothic metal. although perhaps they inspired The Gathering and Theatre of Tragedy to their mix
more alike gothic metal is actually My Dying Bride, with the ambivalent aesthetic thing.
Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema are the first bands to play this style which is Gothic/Doom Metal (a mixture of goth rock and doom metal with death growls ) ,the first of the followers in norway was Theatre Of Tragedy (alternative beauty and the beast) ,and the next day many good bands sppeared especially in norway : the suicidal TSOTB, the medieval Tristania, and The dark Siders Dismal Euphony and Trail Of Tears...later become simple Gothic Metal bands or disappear.
GothicMetalPioneers, you're damn right! But what about "goths"? As for me, I don't think the people with brutal makeup, piercing, and wearing fancy dresses have anything common with gothic. Their style is more punkish and mimic deadman's look rather then gothic. Thus I call them necropunks.
If you look at the pictures of earlier gothic artists you can never see any of this "punkish" items.
yeah people do confuse what a goth is and stuff...
its a shame as they dont really look into other types of people and form their own opinion and dont bother to find anything out properly...i dunno goths are unfortunately, miss understood
But where are the Gathering? O___O in the info's there's "Paradise Lost, Theatre of Tragedy <3 and the Gathering" but there aren't the Gathering on this video. However, excellent choice of the songs *______*
I think which another pioneer of the goth metal is Eternal Tears of Sorrow, because is the main inspiration to anybody which have a gothic band. Paradise Lost don't like me but I recognize that are very good.
heh it's cool. In fact, it's better when people confuse, it means they consentrate more on the music and less on the persons behind it, which borders acting like pop fans.
As for the Fathers of Beauty & Beast Metal - "Celtic Frost" own the rights to the very first ever Beauty & Beast Metal song- featured on the 1985 Album "To Mega Therion" called "Necromantical Screams" not unlike Paradise Lost's "Gothic" but 6! years prior to PL's release i might add..
Good work. I remember that Celtic Frost have on the LP Into The Pandemonium 1987 the song "Mesmerize" with opera voice. (maybe the first Pre-Gothic Song?). Than I remember a christian band called Believer. The CD from 1993 called "Dimensions". The Last three songs "Trilogy Of Knowledge" are with an opera singer.
@wildespace yes! dude i love ToT but what about sins of thy beloved?

And don't forget Lacrimosa wich is one of the pioneers of the mixture between Goth and metal.
The gathering i've never seen it as a gothic band i just call it atmospheric metal like the last Tiamat albums.

God, I hated Liv Kristine in Theatre of Tragedy. She's so much better in Leaves' Eyes. Theatre of Tragedy was a rather weak band.
