@Semmao, while going against the waves is usually the best solution, it may cause parametric roll in some ships. It was actually the case with this one as well - the encounter period was ~half of the natural period of the roll motion and the ship started to roll. Thus the ship would've not necessarily rolled that violently if the waves were coming from the side...

I have spent a lot of time on ships, last year there was a really bad crossing to palma that I was on, I had a fried breakfast, buffet lunch with curry etc then a six cours meal and I wasnt sick ( I felt very very strange though) most people were stuck in their cabins.

dont let this scare you of going on a criuse. they dont even set sail on days like this. this was a complete rouge storm. ships are so safe now and we have radios and radar, not morris code for help, and the lifeboats have little motors and are completely shielded from the elements. plus cruis's rock being out on the water watersliding ON a boat and hot chicks everywhere, beer and escorts from awesome naval ships and blackhawks across international lines. beats stayin home right!
