  • I have a copy of this from a radio interview with the band. While this song is playing, the band sings along. They stopped it short saying that the cops came and made them take it off. This is first time I ever heard it all the way through.

  • Tom tells the truth but at the same time would you rather rich rock stars did nothing? How much of the world can we save? I like this but don't agree 100% with the sentiments of culturecide. Having said that, it is good to bring some balance to the whole charity rock star thing.

  • I remember when all this went down. I was around 19 at the time and I recall the American artists basically being embarrassed that bunch of pasty white UK singers were raising serious awareness on an African issue. Considering the number of African-Americans and the number of AA artists, it seemed crazy that relief didn't originate in the US. So, this was their day-late-and-dollar-short response. Band Aid was better and longer lasting, because the song comes back every Christmas. Brilliant.

  • Advanced faggotry. They were given enough rope and successfully hanged themselves.

  • part where springsteen comes in is the funniest shit ever

  • The whole LP is good. Bravo!

  • Relax everybody.... a clever parody is very refreshing.... and they are pretty close to the mark. I especially dig the Steve Perry chipmunk imitation....

  • you guys rule. finally some people who get it

  • I think people are missing the point:

    1) In Live Aid, very rich rock stars with little grasp of what actually happens in Africa came together to boost their flagging careers to look all 'compassionate'

    2) Most of the money raised for Ethipia was purlioned by the Mengistu junta who caused the famine in the first place.

    3) You'll never see Michael Jackson or Lionel Ritchie on MTV singing about western governments' weapons sales to Third World dictators or the IMF fucking over African farmers

  • No one can know the motives of these bosses, bureaucrats and rock'n'rollers. But,I know that Culturcide critique is powerful and shared by many. The hubris and egotism of the stars involved is especially clear when viewed with Culturcide's lyrics. This is funny, thought provoking and a historic parody attack on the media overlords by a really creative group of artist-musicians who were among the best of the 80's Houston underground scene. They accomplished great things with limited access.

  • This has made me laugh more once!

  • Where's "We're an Industrial Band"?

  • Talent?? The people in the Band-Aid/USA For Africa did it for their profile and to show that 'they care'.

Loved the Culturcide LP when it came out and this was one of the many highlights of the LP.

    They AREN'T the world!!!!!!!

  • Didn't like this. No joke. I thought it amazing that so many superbly talented people got together to do what they could for another country in trouble.

  • i love that song form Usa for Africa but i have to say that cultucide gets my vote too, this "band" was all publicity we never see the charity in them ¬¬

  • weeeellllll sign a record, so they can pretend they care. and their careers will be stronger and guilt free. KENNY THE KID LOGGINS.....AWESOME!

  • Just heard this from the Illegal art website. Amazing. The guy who did Springsteen did a good job.

  • Fantastic...Pure GENIUS!!!!

C'mon sing along,You know you want to!!

  • Culturcide gets my vote
