Still after almost 18 years after this video was released I have not seen a more perfect, and incredibly moving, metaphor for the feel, and sadly, the consequences of a destructive relationship as when you watch helplessly one buffalo lead the other buffalo off the cliff towards the end of the video (which buffaloes sometimes actually do).

in response to blazersax: from what i can recall it's the director's metaphor for AIDS. living with or dying from aids is like the buffalo going over the hill, or something to that extent - need to research further but that's what i've always remembered the meaning to be.

quite sad to watch when you think of it that way. this is, imo, the most powerful version of the video. really sad.

I was only about 13 or 14 when this came out and emotionally, it ranked up there with the first time I saw "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on MTV or the first time I heard "Bohemian Rhapsody". In these horrible days, it's more beautiful now than ever.

I don't know how this video faired in Europe, but it was replaced so quickly with more mainstream versions in the US that I've often wondered if it was because of the public's ADHD attitude towards entertainment.

It's very sad. If only we could learn.

In my English class, this video is part of the curriculum. We had to watch it several times, and pick out the meaning of different parts. I was laughing out loud at Buffaloes running in slow-motion (it looked really funny at the time), but it has a lot more meaning to it now to me. I've grown to respect it, which is rare for me to do.

i would hardly say that the move to the bison imagery is necessarily a negation of/withdrawal from the gay/transgendered concerns associated with the corbijn version; as far as i know, bison are known for their queer engagements. more than that, though, i think the images of the lone bison juxtaposed with that of the couple could be suggestive of homosexuality (of course not necessarily). above all, i see it as a testament to the power/importance of TRUE community and, in a sense, human love
