Certain things can not be cured or immunized because thats not how shit works. Having a headache is not some disease or bacteria, its a natural function of your body. Its not possible to cure without genetically altering you. Thus, we treat the symptoms with painkillers and etc. And they work reasonably well.

When it comes to medicine, Bill is like a creationist.

It's amazing how right Maher is right about a lot of things and how wrong he is about medecine. We all have our blind spots, I guess.

I mean, how does, say, chemotherapy only cure the symptoms of cancer ? Weird.

Bill confuses 2 different points here: there is something to be said for his point that SOME drugs only treat symptoms so you have to keep coming back for more; more attention would be paid to research and actual CURES if it wasn't all about the money Big Pharma can make.

But "Western Medicine" is certainly capable, indeed is the ONLY medicine capable, of coming up with appropriate solutions. Which is why there's huge queues at Red Cross tents in Africa, and not for acupuncture or massages.
