Thanks so much. This saved my life. Explaining the location of the locks was the biggest help. I watched other videos of professionals doing it, and it looked so easy. After a couple of hours of deep frustration grinding away at the sides of my ipod with the useless tool that was included with my battery, I was wondering if I was doing more harm than good. stupidest way to open your ipod ignore this video and go somewhere else. The Guy fucked the hell out of the corners and peeled off the coating of the ipod from the sides. I bet he didnt even fix his ipod i bet he fucked it up more. I have fixed over 100 ipods and never seen anything horrible as this. Take my advise for your saftey.

Also, the guy in the video appears to open his kind of easy because his is already bent from the first time. Getting it bent open the first time is what takes a long time. Have patience grasshopper.

Once you have one side bent out, it becomes easier to bend the other sides and then it pops open pretty easy. But getting that first side bent as the bitch. We ended up using one of those tiny eyeglass screwdrivers because the ipod took was cheap plastic and got too dull. Screwdriver slid in and we used the thin putty knife recommended on ifixit.com. Again, once we had one side bent out, it was easy. Bending that one side took like 30 minutes.

@Jeremynmorse Chances of you being able to actually repair the hard drive are slim to none, butttt you could definitely replace the guts on the inside....only problem is finding out what doesn't work. Good luck and feel free to message me for further inquiries.

@Jeremynmorse it sounds like you have a short circuit somewhere in the power circuit that leads to the hard drive. probably a blown surface mounted part. most likely not fixable unless you replace the entire circuit board. slim chance its the hard drive. don't spend more than a few bucks trying to fix it up, cuz it probably won't work.

@sonicshadow77 If you've got a clicking sound its most likely the hard drive. sometimes you either tap the ipod or drop it from a short height (5 or 6 inches onto a desk or floor) and it will unstick parts in the hard drive. if that doesn't work, you'll need to drive

Just used this to replace the battery in my 160gb IPOD 6th (thick). I tried to use the plastic tools supplied with the kit, but they didnt work. Used a thin knife and drawing pins. THANKS - Excellent video

Also, i had a nervous moment when it didnt turn on. this is because the lock switch was on. Make sure it is off, else you ipod wont boot.

this worked great, what i found also helped was getting in there with a flathead and very, very carefully using it to grab onto parts of the front half of the case and slowly prying it out. but be really, really careful, if you slip the wrong way the screwdriver might damage the screen or some of the other more delicate parts of the ipod

Thanks for posting this, I'm pretty good at fiddly shit like this so I got it open but took me ages, I think you should put a disclaimer up stating that this is diffcult unless you have had expireince with this sort of stuff, you get what I mean though, the people that are sooking are the ones that don't know what they are doing. @retrogamerSam Ummm that means you have hard drive failure and you might have unplugged your hard drive cable by accident lol, do you hear internal movement when you try to start it up? If there arent any electic moving sounds like what you hear from a computer then your cable has simply been disconnected. there are plenty of tutorials on youtube that can help you out.

Good Explanation. I have just found this video after i opened my classic. But i did it a similar Way.

I have used a Screedrivers to bend out the edges of the Metallback a little bit.

Before i close the Device, i must bend them back a little, so there is enough tension to keep both parts together.

I think Apple has invested a lot efford to make the 6g Ipod a "never open it up device". I think i don't like this philosophy.

I also think there is no way to open it up without visible damaging.
