I never did like Solo the Scotty at first, He acted like a total Asshole toward Scruffy and blamed her for Butch's being badly injured in the brawl with Caesar which I thought that was totally messed up on Solo's part.
@bigg34691 If you thought Solo was screwed here, you should read the book! He would attack ANY dog that got in his way and Butch, being the pack leader, was the only dog who was able to set him straight.
VERY much like lady and the tramp! reguardless of which one came first they're too much a like. and if one was going to rip off the other you'd think they'd at least try to hide it better and change the dogs looks. seriously they look exactly the same haha ^_^;
@gnortonshores growing up I thought great dane now I KNOW that's not right though the height & boady shape is similar but the head is ALL wrong particularly the jowl area & the ears...
Wow, Butch Is Still So Brave and Noble, Fighting For Scruffy's Honor and Freedom. and I think He Really Does Care About Her, Even The Part Of When He's Running After That Dog Pound Truck, He Really Does Care About Her, and Would Do Anything For Her.
Ruby Spears, like Hanna-Barbera, was a sweatshop that cranked out animation like sausage. I kind of wish someone like Chuck Jones or Ralph Bakshi made this, since they were adept at making low budgets and limited animation work.
@kkimler2424: Not quite. This special was based on an unrelated book, the only thing remotely similar to L&TT are the character designs and the stray dog aspect.
@kkimler2424 Carl Nichols...the animator who directed "Scruffy" originally worked at Disney and was a big contributor to "Lady and the Tramp". I would not call it a rip off, other than Nicols' style of animation.
@CairnTerrier69 I highly doubt he would have contributed very much, if at all, to "Lady"; according to his IMDb credit (which is fairly accurate in places but not the most reliable) he mostly worked for the shorts department while there, as animator and director, and carries animation duties for "Pinocchio" and "Alice in Wonderland". There's no denying he was influenced by Lady's look, which carries into the character designs.
The fight scene is a bit choppy, but nasty nonetheless. Cutting edge for the time period the film was made for blood to be shown in a cartoon. (Though in real life, Butch most likely would have killed Ceasar by snapping his spine once he locked down on his neck.) I love the goofy old drunk boxer!!! 100% comic relief.

What kind of dog do you think Caesar is?
gnortonshores 7 months ago
@gnortonshores looks like a mastiff
xXLikeAbosSXx09 7 months ago
@gnortonshores Definitely a Mastiff-mix, perhaps with a labrador.

@gnortonshores I'd say he's a Lab/Pit Bull cross. His head has that Terrier block look. Tail has that Lab curve. :)
CairnTerrier69 4 months ago
@gnortonshores I agree on the Mast-ador call or a large Pit Bull. Now how about Sam? Griffon Pointer?

Butch was being so brave and noble, fighting ceasor, just for scruffy's honor and freedom. that was so romantic.

Wow, they could actually show blood in these types of movies back in the day. Why can't we have more kid movies like these anymore?

wow, that was so noble of Butch, fighting for Scruffy's honor.

@ScruffySpecial
this movie was made before lady and the tramp... the lady and the tramp was made in the late 90s scruffy was made in 1980
shaabooty 8 months ago
@shaabooty No. L&TT was made in 1955, so there are reasons to believe this might be a rip-off. And yet it isn't.
