Tremendously beautiful Sitar rendering of Darbari. The only other Sitar rendering of this raga matching this one is that of Imrat Kahn's elder brother, the late Vilayat Khan.
I was half expecting him to light fire to his sitar and then play it with his teeth because he plays that like Jimi Hendrix played guitar. Insane. The tabla player is pretty awesome as well. I loved this.
Both musicians are just exquisite. As much as I love Khan's playing, I'm blessed by him also from his taste in music. His Shree and Saraswati are galactic and divine.
Ustad Imrat Khan has always beenunder estimated. Listen to his Jhinjhoti, Rageswari in particular. He deserves Padma award for his music and for his contribution to keeping the surbhar alive. I intend to write to the Ministry soon in this regard with a copy to some musicians to push his case
is sabir khan the tabla player?? i think everyone is so mesmerized by the sitar playing (which is beyond amazing), the immaculate and ridiculously skilled tabla playing gets overshadowed. tabla @ 4:09. INSANE!!

I had the great fortune of meeting Ustadji and his sons Irshad and Shafaat at a house party twenty years ago. Irshad played surbahar and sitar that evening to a group of about 10.
Awsome indeed. Never heard before someone playing sitar so beautifully, and that too a composition of raga Darbari, a raga of masculine energy. Best time for listening to this raga is around midnight - subject to correction.
Since the day ( some 10/12 years back) when I bought one of your CD on Darbari, played on Surbahar, always wanted to see your live performance. Finally, I must say 'm content and mesmerized. By the way, I am just curious how old were you when your older brother Maestro Vilayet Ali Khan Sb. left home for Gouripur, Mymensingh, then East Bengal.
May God! bless you and your family along with
all the audience those who cater Indian Classical Music. Long live ! the music and her players.
Exceptional...in my opinion, second only to Nikhil Banerjee's exposition.

Notice how cleanly the 1st beat is caught at 2:28 by the tabla player, Sabir Khan Saheb.

Why don't people make some technical comments on the performance instead of indulging in gossip ?

Ustad Khan usually does a show on March 25th (my birthday!) every year in Saint Louis. Hope to see him again this year.

This is the best rendition of Darbari that I have heard. There might be better, but, I have not heard it. Wah Wah Ustad, and what a clear Tabla.
