Minimaxes were common when I was a kid in the 70s on sproat lake we used to ride them all over I did run a 20 hp merc on a max for a time in the 80s. Today I run a 3 point hydroplane with a Lucky Lager beer label on the front. check out my video on yt.
@Kracing6674 what kind of qu is that its impossible to tell you need to tell the motor the year, short or long shaft, and your weight, how calm the water and then we don't know how well the motor runs and what pitch prop you will run
how hard is it to make one of these? My 14 year old son wants a mini boat of his own and i want to let him make it alone. How long would it take him alone and how much would it cost me?
it cost me about $450 for all the materials 3 years ago i guess it was (fibreglass, and marine paint are the most expensive part)... it is for sure worth it though, I was 14-15 when my dad and i built one, your son should be able to do most of it, but if i remember right, i think you need two people to pull the hull together
I built one in 1967 as a woodshop project- spent 2 summers riding it all over , best 35.00 I ever spent. Of course the materials are m,ore expensive now, but what a blast to ride. Mine was green and white. I flipped it at 35 mph on a sand bar tore the transome right off. Had a 10 hp engine on it. Viet Nam came along and the boat was retired.
May I ask where you got the kit at? Did you use templates and blueprints or did you buy the frame and skin and bolt/glue it together? I'd love to build one when I get some room for a shop. Nice vid, good clean fun!
i found plans online and printed them out asap ... there was no kit or template , i just went and bought my materials and started cutting wood and gluing everything together. i spent a few minutes searching for plans so i could send you a link but unfortunately i cant seem to find them , i do however have my plans kickin arround here somewhere but cant seem to find those either :(
because unless your god himself i dont think its possible to build that in one day. you have to sand, paint, i dont know if you fiberglassed or not. but i know i have one similar so it and it took me a long time. but maybe your just a carpenter or something.
not a carpenter by trade but i am a bit of a handy man , and yes it only took me one day to build , it is a basic stitch and glue design , and ya i did fiberglass it , but only the seams ... i could have spent alot more time to build it , but i didnt , i just wanted to get it together and go play
yeah i fiberglassed my hull an the seams just because the waters usually a little choppy aroud here. and i put a thicker transom s it would hold a yamaha 25.. there alot of fun
total fun!!! ... i wanna build a second that is a bit longer and a bit deeper , i am a pretty big guy and would like to be able to put a 25 or 30 on the back , and when i do build a second i will be fiberglassing the entire hull and prolly fill it with foam , just incase :)

How fast do they go? Like their max or your max.
radscull05 3 years ago
it all depends on what size motor you put on it . i had a 9.8 mercury on mine and it did 25 mph

15 hp is the largest these boats will handle. Anything bigger and it will submarine.
