@Axel146 Make sure your thumb is rapped all the way around the neck. It if itsn't and you're doing slower runs, which I'm assuming you are, you'll start straining your wrist.
my guitar teacher is teaching me this at the moment. Apprently it really does help.
when i first started playing on guitar and this was on acoustic my three fingers were really sore and they hurt but then after a while when i went on to electric and played more it did hurt but then they started to harden so now i can use my pinky finger without it hurting no longer wich is good =)
Many thanks for this clip and others as I just recently purchased a Fender Squire Strat after learing on a Tanglewood and an el cheapo acoustic guitar from Cash Converters - as a beginner in Guitar playing I found you more helpful than the so called tutors I have tried to learn from
Many thanks and with your permission I would like to put this clip on my website on MySpace so that others can learn from you
My guitar homework was to work the chromatic scale and by the time I got around to it I had forgotten how to do it. This was by far the best video that I found.
I agree-well explained. However given the fundamental explanation I don't agree with having a beginner reach his untrained hand over the neck to the 6th string nor play at the 1st fret where the reach is too far. I have my guys all play up at the 5th or even 7th fret. That way the arm and wrist is in a
neutral position. Subconsciously it lessens the intimidation found when playing up the neck also.
great video. ive been looking for a good starting base to pick up the guitar, and this helped a lot. You seem very knowledgeable and have a lot of experience teaching beginners. Look forward to more lessons :)

I wonder if you can do that on every fret to do different chromatic scales? or they are different patterns ??

Is my wrist supposed to hurt when I practice this scale? I need to bend it a fair amount to spread the fingers far enough
