  • I really wish someone had told me that THIS is what country is supposed to be when I was a kid. I really could've used songs like this when I was younger.

  • Great Song!

  • I love your channel. I grew up listening to these songs

  • Great poet..that is all

  • Greatest songwriter on this planet - a pure poet. I love the way you can "see" his songs- same way with "Sunday Morning Coming Down". You can picture him walking down the street. Sexy and brilliant - the dude is a "Rhodes Scholar". Love him love him love him

  • anybody else think it's funny that if you type 'kris k' in the search bar, the two things that pop up are a) kris kristofferson and b) kris kross. It's as if youtube is saying, "oh, did you want to listen to an iconic singer/songwriter, or a couple of prepubescant pop-rappers who got dropped from the label once they hit 16 and probably moved back into their parents' houses?"

  • He has always been My Shakespeare.. My favorite is "Why Me Lord" ... A TEXAN that just done good... jgeary@jgeary.com

  • He has always been My Shakespeare.. My favorite is "Why Me Lord" ... A TEXAN that just done good...

  • If the song doesnt open up your heart the pics will....Bro thanks for the upload! God bless you and kris

  • what an amazing singer & songwriter. this is one of the first songs i ever heard, my dad used to listen to it. it was years later before i even knew who John & June were. God bless Kris & R.I.P John & June

  • ace song

  • Brilliant song from an icon, thanks for posting : )

  • Probably my favor t song ever

  • He's not the greatest singer, but he's the greatest.

  • Re: Kris/Willie/Waylon/Johnnie aka the Highway Men sang each others songs and sometimes its hard to tel who wrote what b/c they each wrote so many songs...will never be anybody like them alone or together...Love them!!

  • Great cover

  • @MarSilF

Great cover? Kris wrote this song!

  • It seems to me we would all be better served in we would listen to the words of this beautiful song. It is somewhat complicated but reflects a troubled souls struggle with the temptations of the evil one. The singer struggles with his situation and the prospect of all that is offered him. Then drinks the devils beer and steals his song only changing a few words and the meaning of the devils tune. See he cares and chooses to remain true to himself and his beliefs.

  • @mtchair4me i do see that....

  • I care.

  • wonderful song! i love kris because he was a pal from johnny and because for me he will always be the one and only rubberduck! real national hero

  • amazingly great song

  • I have not heard this in 35 years ... for sure! The text is still completely up to date.

  • A pocket full of dreams...

  • i just recently got into country music and really love it espesally stuff like hank the 3 etc what do you guys think about him?

  • @elvarwinston i think hes a cutie like his grandpa:)

  • Thanks great song,,,,luv Kris :)

  • These songs are what I have loved for ever, that story telling blunt easy going low voice, nice guitar and a slow beat.

  • Hillarious.... But he inly beat guitarslinger slinger by a link.

  • great words eh

  • jeez ive looked for this for years

  • This song is amazing, its about spreading the good news of Jesus. But the truth remains, that nobody wants to know. But we keep on singing to the ones who dont listen, praying that someone is gonna care. The other lonely singers are all the apostles who were crucified for what they tried to show.

  • @JoeCamelCigg

congratulations. you win the idiot price.

  • @JoeCamelCigg Not entirely, although alot of his songs are related to what you have said, its not all about that. Its a simple life lesson at the same time. "If you waste your time talking to people who dont listen to the things that you are saying, then who do you think is gonna hear?" Thats good advice to anyone, christ-related or not.

  • Damm i wanna be with all my buddies,,,,my drinking buddies haha...love you guys always and forever

  • Did he SaY John and June As in Johny and June cash?

  • @gsp67 Thanks..I thought sooo

  • I love a day, when I discover something this good.. Sets me up for 24 hours of positivity..

  • why would you use fall out boy lyrics in this video? mymymy.

  • This is good stuff!

  • A man who's been there, done that, bought the T-shirt and then some. What a great song writer who's lived every word!

  • This song is precious to me. sent to me today by a friend who cares.....

  • Such a truthful video.. life in all its various facets :-)

  • 4 people missed the like button

  • Ohhhhh how I'd love to have Kris come and just read me a bedtime story with that voice of his!!! Purrrrrrrrrr :-)

  • 4 people gave this a thumbs down....guess there are dumb ass people everywhere you go.

  • @oldmoonshiner I think you proved who the true dumbass is by pathetically caring and commenting about what people like/dislike. Music is subjective and if someone doesn't like it then they can clearly express that with a thumbs down (that's why it's there). I personally like this song but are you so ignorant and unintelligent that you believe people who have differing opinions about this song are dumbasses? Should everyone like exactly what you do?

  • @greatestxgift

    yes. yes they should.

  • If you wast ur time a-talking 2 the people who dont listen to the things that u r saying who do u think`s gonna hear,

"And If you should die explaning how the things that they complain about are things they should be changing who do u think`s gonna care,

    CLASSIC,,

  • i love this song. "I'm not saying I beat the devil... but i drank his beer for free... and then I stole his song." I declare Kris Kristofferson is like the ultimate Badass. Him, Johnny Cash and Jesus.

  • One of the best sermons a person could preach. And in one of the least offensive and pleasant ways of presenting it.

  • And may I Express my dissatisfaction with the statusquo

    Thanx D2

  • I've met the Devil and know him well, If you don't like this song... you can go straight to Hell

  • Waylon did a great cover of this song as well.

  • Thanks for uploading this. A great song from one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your video really hits the spot and adds to the youtube experience - it captures the message and is witty - kinda like Kris !!

  • classic song

  • I NEVER KNEW HE WAS A SINGER??I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST AN ACTOR!

  • My mate asked me if i could get him this song,! i was with him one day haven a drink,! & talken about this song , but before i got the song for him to hear , He had a hart attack & passed away,! so sad miss him before he could hear the song he wanted to here,! Miss You my Great Freind,! Raymond,! We will Meet again,,! ;-(( & you Will Hear the Song,!!

  • Back when failure had me locked out

On the wrong side of the door,

When no one stood behind me

But my shadow on the floor

And lonesome is more than a state of mind.

    magic

  • Please tell me how to beat the devil this is not sarcastic or posh-- I need to know.

  • how does he do it, puting these words together like that, he sure has a sixth scence, god bless you kris youre one of the best without a doubt

  • lightfoot should drop in and help kris out

  • My folks didn't like Bob Dylan. Instead they had Kris on three 8 tracks and it rubbed off when I was young. He did three albums like this and went country afterwards. I dig Dylan, btw. But I love Kris in this period of his career.

  • 1969 Downtown Ramada, Nashville: Long haired guy wearin' fringed deerskin jacket fell asleep in the lobby again..." Rick...go wake Kris...tell him to come have some coffee on us"

  • A best mate (who moved to S.America 2 find himself and cut conact with evryone)made a mix tape of Kris for me 7 yr ago. I felt i cud realy relate to this song.As i often can explain something 2 someone 10 ways and they still wont get it. Yet the very few wil just instantly understand and get me. Obviously, now I frequently hold back my efforts. I miss my best mate Gerry Dangerous.

  • I think Kristofferson is probly the best music writer there ever was, and one of the best musicians.

  • Damn, Kris can write a song!

  • Is Joni Mitchell still alive? She should write a song about Kris. He deserves to be a living legend.

  • @bushpic Deserves??? He IS!!

  • Anybody know the Kris song that has the line ''what's the use in looking different when it's different now that looks alike?'' Thank you.

  • This might just be the best song ever written. I have been writing songs since I was 16 - playing music since I can remember...and Kris just nails it hear...

On my best days this is exactly why I pick up my guitar.

  • I have been a musician for many years and shared the stage with everyone from Kris to Eddie Van Halen and from George Jones to Twisted Sister. Throw in Doc Severensen, Buddy Ebsen (yes that Buddy Ebsen-I pretty good piano player) and Les Paul. Then add everyone in between. This is the truest song ever written. Music is a hard life. As it says in the song, "Pickin' up whores instead of my pen I let the years of my youth drift away." I love Kris. I love this song

  • one of my all time favorite songs, and i just heard it a few days ago.

  • great song. thank you.

  • Legend!!!

  • self Portrait ?

  • Hello, I'm Johnny Cash is an album released by country singer Johnny Cash on Columbia Records in 1970 (see 1970 in music).....

The album also includes "To Beat the Devil", the first Kris Kristofferson song covered by Cash...

    who's the idiot now?

  • @schatzw ----sorry dude Kris wrote the song. You may THINK you know everything, but you don't. Not taking anything away from Johnny, but Kris wrote THIS song.

  • @MrTswinburn I am not 100% but when kris siad "then I stole his song", I thought that was johnny's song he was talking about.? Help me out please because I am not sure

  • @MrLyricalmeaning -----He "drank his beer for nothing & then he stoke his song". Referring to the "Devil" in the guise of the guy "setting at the bar". Kris wrote this song, as he has so many other GREAT songs. And that TAKES NOTHING away from the man in black. Who in fact wrote "The Man in Black".

  • @MrTswinburn I see... makes since

  • @MrLyricalmeaning ----should have been STOLE his song. Sorry.

  • Great video and a great song with meaning. Kristoferson did write this and dedicated it to Johnny cash and June Carter. Probably cause they save his life from partying and drinking.

  • @JamesCarita

Yeah I love this guy just found out about him today LOL:)

This song tells a story and it's very old school gotta love that.

  • @JamesCarita im sure it was the other way around, kris helped save john from the pills, they almost killed him.

  • Great vid. Cheers

  • this is a great song , all of us in the "program" can relate to! 18 years and loving it!

  • awesome song we all have a little devil in us in some ways and the question is who will u let take contro

  • nice tune whistler .

  • Thanks for sharing this tube

    Cheers from Belgium

    Eric - Studio ChinChan

  • but ruly a wonderful song, reminds of me of my father...

  • it's hard to be an artist alright!

  • The things that we complain about are things we could be changing

  • Ignorance is self extinguishing

  • Ignorance is a flame that sets fires using the uneducated as kindling.

  • I'm not sure what you mean...but I think I like it.

  • are we all agreed its abut j.c.? the first bit anyway.

  • The piece is about an idealistic down and out song writer who ends up in a bar and is chatted up by whoever. Mr. whoever sings him a ditty about the silliness of being idealistic. The singer drinks the guys beer and steals his song. The idealist writer changes a few words and behold the meaning of the song now reflect the writers Ideals. One can not argue with the devil you got to beat him at his own game. Hope this helps in your understanding of this song. KEEP ON TRUCKIN KK POET

  • I understand the song, but the intro is about Mr Cash. the meeting was a reality check for KK in my view. JC even said so in an interview. Thanks for your input .

  • I have to apologise I misunderstood your comment. However, the song is dedicated to John and June, who helped show me how to beat the devil.

It is obvious JC was going through something and it may have been the first time KK saw him a a man rather than a god. The rest of the song is the song. The dedication is part of the song as a whole. I feel we need much more info to determine what it is really about. I always thought JC wrote songs not poetry? The way they met was really strange.

  • @mtchair4me ---What are good lyrics BUT poetry? Poetry set to music. Song. And Kris, Johnny, & many, many others are or were poets.

  • thank you for your message, it was received

  • dragged me out of the gutter long time ago.thanks.

  • This song is so true!

The world can be a shit place and this tells of the right out look to have.

  • kris is a poet beyond compare

  • Kudos on the upload!

  • A simple message. And a wonderful philosophy though tough to live up to. If only more of us would try to design our lives like this, the world would be a much better place.

  • Why no picture of Johnny Cash and June Carter when he said it was dedicated to them? lol. Nice job anyway

  • Nice Job on the video... Makes me think of my Dad. Passed in 2005... and now my life.

    Thank you.

  • You, my dear Kris and Willie are my reasons for living..Really all my love...

  • they saved me too, keep strong,

  • Thank you so much...

Love you, you you have a great heart, too...

  • moving video! nice job :)

    blessings,

    amy

  • I think Kris says it all here. NEVER give up. Keep on keeping on.

  • I have seen this live. And I also have a version of Kris and John singing it together. Legend!

  • You got that wrong, it's not great, it's an all time classic inspirational piece of music. Kriss Kristofferson is a musical genius. Thank you for up-loading this classic D2 Parton.

  • actually I heard Kristofferson say it wasn't Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down,it was another song, but since he was Johnny Cash he could tell the story however he wanted

  • nice.

  • I don't believe that no one wants to know.

  • I am so glad that the poet/songwriter/singer/actor (in the elevator) is still with us.

  • I think I reas somewhere this song was about Johnny Cash ... I aslo read that he landed chopper in Cash's backyard and handed him 'Sunday morning coming down' ... Don't know how true it is ...
