  • wiggling your arms like you just jumped out a plane!

  • I wouldnt consider that hucking by any means as the title indicates

  • Comment removed

  • @thormann84 Yes by no means a big cliff drop. Look at some of my other Videos on my YouTube Channel for bigger Cliff Hucks.

  • Cmon, you can go BIGGER!!!

  • @o56kid your right this cliff jump was pretty weak. I think this was my first time down this particular section. Check out my other video's for way bigger cliff jumps!

  • title was waaaaaaay to cool for tis vid

  • Yeah, just a little guy but POW conditions were very nice. I'll be hitting up Vail this weekend and taking more footage in Mushroom bowl!

  • @dantemonteverde is mushroom bowl in bounds?

  • NO, Mushroom bowl is definitely out of bounds! There are directions how to get there below in the comments. But you should NOT go there unless you are an advanced skier with back country experience, a partner, avalanche gear, beacon, and shovel, etc. Also you WILL come upon cliff bands with mandatory airs. Have someone who has been before show you a safe line to take.

  • back seat....

  • @freeskierkerry yeah in that dry soft pow you really want to lean forward. I think in this particular shot I hit my camera man's tracks and it put me in the back seat a bit. Also need to take a way better line and hit a bigger cliff! I think this was the first time I hit this section in Mushroom bowl.

  • My buddy who rides back there told me to hit the trees of of chair ten, but I was also thinking of traversing across benchmark ridge and hitting the open trees where mill creek traverses up the mountain side, at least there you cant screw up and miss the road back down. I dont wanna have to slog back out on a board through some deep pow. those two routes seem the best for boarders.

  • When you get to the end of the mushroom bowl / mill creek road traverse you end up at the bottom of chair 10. The trees runs along chair 10 are pretty tight and get skied out quickly.

You don't want to be first to blaze the trail out of mushroom bowl. I recommend skiers to have free release binding to get out of mushroom bowl when there is fresh snow and your the first down. Ideally ski the powder in bounds then after a few days hit up Mushroom bowl where the snow is good all year round!

  • how often do they groom mill creek road. Im a long time vail resident and have been wanting to hit mushroom bowl forever but im on a board and dont want to get stuck if that road isnt groomed. I hiked back there a few weeks ago to scope the terrain looks like it shouldnt be to terrible for a boarder as long as you dont hit the chutes that are in your other video, seems like a really flat traverse back to mill creek from there.

  • Mill Creek Road grooming schedule seems very random. Sometimes it's groomed nicely and sometimes they don't get to it. Regardless it is a very long flat traverse. If your a snowboarder I definitely recommend brining poles.

After a fresh dump of pow you want to wait until the afternoon or the next day b/c it will take you forever to get out. But if you wait it should be skied out and their should be an easier and faster trail to follow out. If your the first one however it can take forever!

  • That was really gay, why didnt you hit it off the front?

  • Good question. That was the first time I hit that particular section. Might have been b/c I thought I didn't have enough speed to clear the rock or b/c their wasn't enough run out before the trees. But yeah looking back at it I could have gone a lot bigger.

  • Dnparadice,

You can still find powder and fresh tracks at Vail, just have to hit it up early and forget about the weekends. Hit Chair 5 first as soon as possible then head to Blue Sky, followed by a M Bowl hike. A perfect day to me :-o)

  • Well not like you used to, back in 85 you could ski fresh powder all weekend.

  • WolverineDawg,

Let me begin by saying you do NOT go to Mushroom Bowl unless you are an experience/expert skier with avalanche training, beacon, shovel, etc. Mushroom bowl is Out of Bounds and technically your are NOT supposed to go there.

Having said that. To get to Mushroom bowl you would take up The Orient Express Lift (21), traverse skier left/looker right. And go up the pommel lift (22). Then from there you hike up as if you were going to east Vail (also OB). Half way go left, major cliffs

  • Its funny how ever since the internet came around its harder and harder to find fresh tracks around Vail and more and more people get lost in the wilderness and there are more and more closed signs.

  • But yeah people have to be very careful in the Vail Side Country. Especially East Vail! Very Avalanche prone terrain.

  • parts of Sun Down Bowl and the now unmarked Sheer Terror Glade still are untracked most of the year. That's what's great about Vail and BC... as long as you know the mountain, you can find powder stashes all year long.

  • If you look at my other video "Vail Skiing Cliff Huck". To get to there: Start at the top of Chair 5 and do the long traverse along the headwall ridge. Push out and drop in and get some nice pow down Morning Thunder. Duck the rope by the cat track under sleepytime and you'll get untracked powder and find the cliff band in that video. Technically out of bounds I got yelled at once by patrol but talked my way out of it. You'll end up at the bottom of the Blue Sky and Tea Cup Chairs.

  • exactly

  • I agree with ya. Keep that stuff secret!

  • what the fuck is mushroom bowl?

    looks sweet though

  • Oops wrong YouTube account. Check out this profiles videos. My bad.

  • Yeah there is sooo much Pow back in Mushroom Bowl. Can't wait to hit it up again this winter.

There are other spots along the cliff band where you can take 30-40 footers.

    Check out my other videos.

  • small, but looks like a lot of fun! nice pow
