I saw all the games in 1996. They were poor against the Swiss. Only for Mcllister missing a penalty, they wud have lost to Scotland and Spian had 2 goals disallowed against them. Da only gud performance was against Holland where Davids was sent home before the match and were in disarray. If he was so gud, how come McClaren was in charge not him. He has only won 2 cups in his career as a manager.

Venables' side played some of the best football ever seen from an England team and I think it's a real shame that because of some dislike of Venables some people feel the need to deny this.

The reason I rate Venables so highly is because he took over from the total mess left by Taylor (England were a joke) and transformed England into a quality team capable of competing with anyone and playing stylish, at times great, football.

He also did this with a smile on his face (a rare thing in football).

Football needs people like Venables, it is supposed to be entertainment afterall!

Go through Italia '90 and see how close some of the games were and how poorly we played in some. I agree England also played some very good football but not as good as the high points of '96. You seem to have a jaundiced view of Venables as a football manager for some reason.

By the way, how many cups did Robson win?

he did the doouble with Barca. He managed to get 4th with Newcastle( a miracle). Got Ipswich into Europe. Won titles with Porto and was a guiding influence for Jose Mourinho. Veneables is a con. Sure all teams at home do well. France in 98, Italy 90, Mexico 86, S Korea 2002, Germany 2006, USA 94
