  • As much as I love the movie, They Live is not a horror movie. They shouldn't be showing clips...

  • WARNING dont watch this video, THE KNOCKINGMAN Video is Cursed, you will get 3 weeks of It's pain, the first week you hear knocks, the second week you get sick, the third week it takes you, it's in username smile21277

  • if any one from the UK is looking to start a film get in touch through this account re create some true horror over 18 only

  • The master of horror, does give a damn what people think. Happy Birthday John

  • 1-16-2012. It's no bore. John Carpenter is 64. Happy Birthday, John. You've come a long way since Revenge of the Colossal Beasts.

  • It's strange to me that the older effects are so much better and all the investment has been in CGI and not man made props. Imagine how good they could look today. We are to intelligent to believe CGI's lack of soul, physics and texture. There is also a huge lack of creativity in the last decade with a ridiculous amount of remakes, in which not even one of them is half as good as the original. Horrors like The Thing will be watched forever unlike the recent remakes and dull teen horrors of today

  • John Carpenter rocks

  • so thats the guy from evil dead

  • All of these classics will have been remade in the next ten years- The Thing being the recent one :/

  • fuck the small screen bullshit...........the wide screen version of The Thing is the proper film........you won't know what the hell's going on if you watch it in the format displayed on this clip.......Universal Studios is partly to blame....and that dumb lawyer..what's his face....

  • @AceofDlamonds Agreed. And, I've said this before, all of John Carpenter's movies need to be watched in their original 2.35 : 1 aspect ratio.

  • 7 people are terrified of John Carpenters films

  • Carpenter 2012

  • I totally admit and agree with John about the bloodier the better and the funner, i'm so afraid of scary movies but i work as a freelance makeup artist and photography and i LOVE LOVE LOVE doing bloody shoots and doing zombie make up i recently just did a shoot with a bullet hole in the forehead. They are so much fun.

  • ppl also didnt see The Thing because it came out at around the same time as E.T.

  • The "Thing" 1982 a Great re-make really not like the new re-amake :S

7 dudes are fans of Paranormal activity ... ROFL!!

  • THE THING

One of the BEST horror movies out there, and that means something

  • 1982 the thing is the greatest horror movie ever made, it is just the public back in 1982 were such cowardly pussies that they got scared shitless by it thats why it got such a negative review

  • So that is where the Duke Nukem line came from, you know the one "it's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I am all out of gum". I know the majority of Duke's lines are copied from movies.

Going to have to watch that movie now.

  • THE THING FTW

  • I would love to see what John Carpenter and Stephen King could do if they worked together!

  • @SeaCadet263 John Carpenter and Stephen King DID work together. It's a little project called "Christine" from 1983.

  • @goldlessbassist Cool. I was not aware of that.

  • @SeaCadet263

they woud make movies like Bambi xD

  • @SeaCadet263

    Christine?

  • @SeaCadet263 AMEN! With Stephen Kings' mind and John Carpenters' effects? We'd have the best movies made of all time, I'm sure! ;D

  • @SeaCadet263 They did! Christine (1983)

  • @SeaCadet263 "Christine"

  • @SeaCadet263 Does Christine Counts?

  • I love his quote about how there are only two horror stories you can tell. I never thought of it that way. Now I'll always think of it that way. Thanks, John. You are the man.

  • THE THING by Carpenter is the all time best horror movie of all time!

  • 4:31 LAMBENT!!

  • @renejgr70 every time a drudge mutates I immediately imagine kurt russell with a flamethrower.

  • Im Scared!

  • they need to make more movies like this with props and shit fuck computer low grafic shit

  • @TheGoodwill56 agreed

  • this man is a GENIUS, how he came up with the ideas for the monsters in The Thing, I love how he came up with the remote control car as a head in that scene, when they burned it it was all they had XD and went totally well with the movie damn this guy was born to make horror films

  • lol keep on pressing 7:29

  • @SammyPsychotic Yeah I'm pressing 8 over and over to get that effect lol

  • what was that skull thing on the guy's face in the beginin?

    they guy with the stick

  • @razoremblem That's one of the aliens from "They Live".

  • @MooNTHELooN77 thanks

  • I am not that big of a fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street Saga but I have to admit, it is a very original and creative idea for sure! Freddy Krueger is my least favorite Horror Movie Slasher out of the 3 iconic Slashers which are of course: Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger! I prefer Jason out of the 3 to be the best but I still think Michael Myers is the scariest by far!

  • James Wan and Leigh Whannell are other HUGE Horror Movie Inspirations for me as well! They create such a creepy and eerie atmosphere in their films together! For example, Insidious was the scariest movie I have ever seen that was made in the last 30 years! It terrified me! James Wan and Leigh Whannell know how to create a truly Scary Movie! That's what is so great about them! Also they made another terrifying film called "Dead Silence" which is like Insidious but SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME!

  • Wes Craven is one of my biggest Horror Film Inspirations! He's the main reason why I want to become a Horror Movie Director or an Actor! Once I saw Scream for the first time, I was immidiately pulled into the world of terror! I have always loved the late 90's "Scream-Like" Horror Films like Urban Legend, I Know what you did Last Summer and Valentine! I love Home Invasion Horror Films like The Strangers, When a Stranger Calls, Funny Games, Kidnapped (2011), THEM etc.

  • John Carpenter looks like Albert Einstein!

  • you can see the famous Hatbox Ghost behind Bruce cambel at 0:07

  • WHAT THE FUCK!! Bruce Campbell?? and...and John Carpenter?? And CLIPS OF KURT RUSSELL!!??!!??!!??!!??!!

    **Falls on ground dead**

    haha

  • the greatest horror movie ever is John Carpenter's Halloween. It scared me as a child and still sends a chill down my spine whenever i see Michael Myers.

  • TRUE TO THE 1982 CLASSIC.....

ENTIRE WORLD POPULATION INFECTED ....27000.....HOURS FROM FIRST CONTACT ......... IS > 3 < YEARS .......YEAR TO DATE..... {THING-FEST 2008}......

    {THING-FEST 2011}......

    ASSIMILATION COMPLETED........

  • Bruce is still the man

  • i love the out takes when they asked him if he would make a good porn director.

he said yes. and they said how?john said he wasnt going to tell him

  • Special effects of this time had character, dimension and atmosphere, CGI is ludicrous and lacks all of these qualities. Indeed; modern film is exsanguineous and mawkish in comparison.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks to the movie The Thing Dead Space was possible

  • El flaco no tiene un aire al de Evil Dead de lejos???

  • john carpenter is the best.

  • PLEASE CHECK OUT! THING-FEST 2011!WHO GOES THERE / LET HOPE YOU DO! THING FEST 2011

  • i came to kick ass and chew bubble gum but i'm all out of gum lol best line ever

  • Omg! I never knew john Carpenter did Both the thing and Halloween!

  • hahaha Duke Nukem 3:25

  • @Z0MBIE413

yeah, that's where duke got it from. Got many of his other lines from Ash, played by the Actor at the beginning of this vid, Bruce Campbell.

  • Wish that Carpenter had budgets like Spielberg!!

    He`s a champ anyway but imagine that!Whos daddy?! :)

    Thing best film ever..

  • Evil is fuel for his fire? Watch the end WTF. He enjoys real death and hatred and evil? Humanity saddens me.

  • the thing. now THATS a movie!

  • Holy crap is there anything twinkies can't do?

  • im here to chew bubble gum and kick some ass! lol best line ever

  • There's a thing to be said about movies, regardless if they are receivers of awards or trashed by everyone, there is some truth, some expression from life that's in every movie ever made, even if you can't see it. Mr. Carpenter, do as your heart pleases, I always support you.

  • I love how all the most important or scariest things are put into writing for effect, and then "The Stuff in Twinkies" is written up there too. Also Carpenter is a boss.

  • I love Carpenter's philosophy on filmmaking, that you should be proud and honor your films because they belong to you and it doesn't matter what anyone else says. Even though some of his work is lacking, it's solid advice.

  • true master, scientist, Laozi of the horror.

  • were to get this docu .... its well made

  • Thumbs up for the crazy walking head! xD

  • I liked the film The Thing.

  • man of pure classic talent in film.

  • i cant wait for the prequel in october. gonna be awesome

  • i rekun carpenter is the best horror movie director of all time ....assault on precient 13 was bludy good too

  • Carpenter is easily one of my favorite filmmakers. Top 3, for sure. His talent is sorely missed from the horror genre. These days it's filled with hacks like Eli Roth, the guys behind the "Saw" movies, etc., who have no idea how to make good scary horror movies. Carpenter can creep you just with a camera angle and a couple piano notes.

  • hes the best

  • @DaReggaeMAN77 THEY LIVE... a classic, check it out!!!

  • @DaReggaeMAN77 They live

  • - "I have come to chew bubble gum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubble gum."

My number one favorite movie line, favorite movie and favorite director! Tragically underrated film! The plot is friggin genius IMO. Thanks for all your great uploads Splatterandgore, we really love and appreciate the content and effort you put into feeding us horror hogs such good, gooey slop, I'll continue licking my trough clean!

  • it's surprising for some people that john carpenter actually likes gore & blood, his first film "halloween" used shocks and scares than gore and blood, my friend got surprised about that cuz he doesn't like horror films other than halloween

  • wots the first clip were the guys head falls off with the bugs ?

  • @frazleburger Prince of Darkness

  • @MooNTHELooN77 thanx man

  • This guy just knows how to build the suspense...which is the biggest part of a horror film...Halloween the original barely has any gore...but fuck...it fucks with you, you know? He builds up the SUSPENSE like Alfred Hitchcock...

  • ASH!!

  • The Thing was one of THE greatest horror stories, it made you think

  • the monster with the glowy eyes behind the interviewed looks alot like the monsters in FEAR 3

  • ash the guy with shotgun

  • BRUCE CAMPBELL!

  • Er ist der Master aller Master.

  • Bruce campbell <3

  • Bruce Campbell! Fuck yeah!

  • "i'm here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum"

Thats Duke Nukem except its switched.

  • "Last Rites: The Return of Sebastian Vasilis" starring Kurt Russel as Karl, Jennifer Anniston as Barbara, Gene Simmons as Sebastian, Randy Quaid as Lyndon, Robert Deniro as Abssi and Viggo Mortonson as Udo, directed by John Carpenter. A guy can dream!

  • Yea imagination, more like literal nightmare fuel

  • Love this guy

  • a prequeal is being made for the The Thing (just FYI) it will be released in theaters 2011

  • The THING is one of the best movies ever!!!

  • @JogaOhio they r remaking it...i smell failer

  • @JogaOhio YEAH

  • @JogaOhio hell yes.

  • Love All the directors that appear on this clip ♥

  • fuel for our fire?,,,,, what is that suppose to mean?...

  • I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum!!!

    fucking EPIC!!!

  • Snake ? What happened to your face ...

  • "The Thing" is still one of my favourites.

    Best alien horror movie ever

  • @Chillton the original was a little bit better for me but John Carpenters remake is really a masterpiece. He is my favourite director.

  • @KirillVova Don't count on it. He approved both "The Fog" and "Halloween" remakes.

  • The Thing and They Live. two of my most prized movies in my collection. =]

  • I saw a clip on AMC where Carpenter appears to come across as sort of a deuschebag in regards to Zombie redoing Halloween. Pretty fucked up considering he remade The Thing.

  • thumbs up for john carpenter

  • It's funny, there are so many looney, crazy directors out there but watching interviews with horror directors like Carpenter, Craven, Cronenberg, Hooper, etc i just see the nicest most down to earth people, you wouldn't think that after seeing their movies lol

  • They broke the mold when they came across John Carpenter! He's number 1 in my book! Simply the best horror movie director!

  • KILL CGI BRING BACK RUBBER AND STRINGS!!!! NOW!.... ALL YOU LAZY CHEAP-ASS DIRECTORS!!!!

  • @favsncrap Nah, a better solution. Bring back the rubber and strings and keep the CGI for when you want a shot that'd be impossible to do without it. CGI isn't going away, it has too much appeal and potential for directors. But at the same time, bring back the physical props and monsters for that real feeling. Seamlessly meshing the two to make a truly superior film would be the holy grail of special effects.

  • @EvilCleric I agree, CGI is well used (for the most part) in lord of the rings, However i personaly think having CGI for living or organic beings looks so false, Rubber for living or things with dynamic motion is best (with some CGI if the rubber isnt moving in the right way) CGI is awesome for mechanical and non living or things that are not naturaly occuring in nature (such as xwings in starwars or army tanks)

  • @favsncrap It's funny, everyone who think so have never had any experience in traditional or digital art. CGI is carefully crafted, as much as practical effects were back those days. There are a lot of talented artist who started their careers in latex modeling who are now working on pixels and polygons, the guy who did some main creatures in Avatar is one of them. Computers allow people do more in less time, untalented people are going to make more crap more quickly, it's not CGI fault.

  • @ErikRicardoLC I know lol ive done it at uni, im still against its application for the most part. The lord of the rings films were a perfect example so many cool cgi parts HOWEVER tons of lotr was done with models and lighting and you can tell, though i love the film and the cgi is well done for the most part you (well i can) tell it feels not as realistic as models. The balrog was an exception but gollum to me didnt look right and neither did the cgi stunt doubles... AVARTA = MASSIVE OVERHYPE

  • @favsncrap Cinema it's the most technological art, without the chemical industry's new technology back in the 60's there had not been the type of latex that allowed the makeup artists do these classic monsters masks same it happens right now but with computer science right now, there are ALSO some perceptual phenomena factors since now we are more used to visual effect so we don't "believe" those trick that easily.

  • @ErikRicardoLC And that is why the art needs to go back to being (for the most part) made of physical material. Physical material is real, very few actors / directors can pull of cast interaction with non physical props. Even though chemicals made the original props there was something physical there to hold and observe. Any fans wanting to view cinema props in the future will just be looking at a computer screen on maya or 3dsmax.

  • @favsncrap i can't be done anymore, the main problem with prosthetic is no matter how well done is they always will limit actor's facial expression as they always stand over the face volume, the Double Face digital prosthetic is a good example of that, it looks like the face was ripped off, you can do that adding latex into an actor face. There are a lot of essays about how we psychological change our phenomena perception along the time, now we "believe" less in vfx.

  • @ErikRicardoLC yeh i would agree with that, i still think with advances in technology and robotics (take japan for example) that the prosthetics will be amazingly advanced today, i know this will never happen as no one is daring or has the finaces to push for the more expensive physical materials

  • @favsncrap I hope so too, since there is a lot of effects can be done all CGI. My favorites effects are the one who were made mixing techniques, Jurassic Park doesn't look as an old effect movie because those gorgeous animatronics but now Hollywood just go with all CGI 3D stereoscopic hype.

  • @ErikRicardoLC Couldn' agree more friend. JP still looks as good today as it did when it came out. Avatar, pffffft please.....looks as fake now as it did when it came out.

  • So Duke is a fan of Carpenter? interesting

  • So Duke is a fan og Carpenter? Sweet

  • John Carpenter and Goerge Romero,my 2 favorite Horror directors, hands down!

  • Doesnt John Carpenter look like the Creature from the Black Lagoon?

  • 4:40....LOL..scared the shit out of me

  • i love Halloween..John is a total legend... just like Wes Craven and S.Cunningam

  • HAPPY ENDIN!!!! HAHAH I LOVE HAPPY ENDINS BUAWHAHA

  • Halloween, the best horror film, period. Did Rob Zombie not watch the original at all?. It just goes to show John Carpenter is a fucking legend. Thanks for posting.

  • which is the piece of the first film in video???

  • @djdsdaedalus probably they live

  • What's the name of this dotoemeaty? And can I get it on DVD

  • Bruce is the man!

  • i have to see the thing its about god damn necromprphs and we all know necromporphs are awesome

  • If I were John Carpenter I would make a prequel of the thing. It would be great to see how those other guys found that UFO and awoke the thing. It could be a great movie if you ask me.

  • @maddrex77 There is supposed to be a prequal due out next year.

  • @BloodySawBlade Awesome! That would be so great!

  • @maddrex77 A prequel with that exact same story is in production and is gonna be released next year in October.

  • @AlmightyHiggey Cool! I'm looking forward to it.

  • @maddrex77 they are making a prequel. I'm sure i'm not the first to tell you that.

  • @BKAllmighty whats the prequel called?

  • @qwcatfacenamedtimmy i think just The Thing. Funny, it's a prequel, but it's name makes it sound like a remake. At least, i think that's the title. Wiki it.

  • @maddrex77 Actually I think this is coming out. Search for the thing a rotten tomatoes and read the description of the movie coming 2011.

  • @maddrex77 they are making a prequel or remake or something that John Carpenter has nothing to do with and its gonna be lame as hell. Check it out on IMDB

  • @maddrex77 I'd make a sequel to the Thing, show how it gets away, trying to get to civilization.

  • @maddrex77 Actually a prequel of the thing has already been filmed and is ready to be released this october 2011, although it's not directed by Carpenter.

  • @maddrex77 If you haven't heard they are making prequel but its not by John Carpenter. I just hope they dont use CGI or I will be pissed

  • @blackhole73 Well I hope it still will be good even though it's not made by John Carpenter.

  • @maddrex77 it comes out this year

  • @maddrex77 i think they are, lol, idk bout carpenter i havent looked into it much, but good call!

  • @maddrex77 big surprise. they are making a prequel although the title is still called "the thing"

  • @maddrex77 They're making a prequel...I was on a site where the showed all the up and coming remakes and sequels and The Thing was one of them. From the pictures it looks like it's going to be very good...hope they don't f it up.

  • @maddrex77 apparently the prequel with the thing is in the works but im not sure who the director is, can't wait to see it though

  • @maddrex77 He is.

  • @maddrex77 IT HAS BEEN MADE.

  • @maddrex77 its coming out next year ;)

  • @maddrex77 the prequel comes out October 14, 2011.

  • @Joker3797 My birthday lol!

  • @Steelys4me lol well hopefully the movie is good so you are not disappointed on your birthday.

  • Prince of Darkness was pretty weak. Some cool effects and nifty ideas, but it was pretty forgettable compared to the Thing or They Live

  • halloween will always be my fav john carpenter film. his later works, like in the mouth of madness and ghost of mars...iffy. loved in the mouth of madness. still, they have the john carpenter feel to them.

  • bruuuuuce!

i want to live john carpenters life

horror DVDS for sale on our channel

  • I'm never eating twinkies again!!

  • Anyone know if this TV special is available on DVD? I had it taped on VHS but my VCR ate my tape and I lost it. And I never see it on TV around Halloween anymore. I loved watching it around Halloween time.

  • I remember the first time I saw Halloween. Oh my gosh that movie scared the living daylights out of me. I was like in third grade and I just could not stop obsessing over how scary it was. My mom had to bann me from horror movies for a while.

  • John Carpenter is the man!
