Speaking of absurd theories concerning the attacks of 9/11, Pat Robertson believes non-Christian US citizens need to accept some of the blame for the 9/11 attacks. Pat believes 9/11 was a punishment from God.
Oh, by the way, Giuliani is gladly accepting the endorsement of Robertson.
Rudy jumps down Paul's throat for speaking the truth, and then turns around and attaches his name to Robertson and his absurd 9/11 theory.
nice little one-liner, but if he had actually done a little reading (I found it in a matter of minutes) would have found that indeed Ron Paul was right and was only restating information obtained from the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States and the 9/11 Commission Report.
I have to agree with Paul, what we need to disengage from this perpetual state of war is intelligent analysis of the causes and effects of militarism and terrorism. Giuliani is a thug, and an anti-intellectual. Unfortunately, America seems to not have learned from the example of our current dumb, hyper-macho leader. Down w/Giuliani, and down w/censorship!
The fact that the audience erupts in applause at Rudy's response shows the sad, sad state of the republican party. Are they really that out of touch with reality??
If an attractive woman walks down a dark alleyway in a pretty rough neighbourhood and so ends up getting raped, even though the rapist gets the ultimate blame for comitting the crime, the woman should be well aware that she could have done more to protect herself. It's the same with foreign policy: the possibility of terrorist reprisals is the price one pays for interventions.
You must either be dying to crack a joke or have never seen a poor analogy. The purpose of an analogy is to make a point. Mine may have used unconventional imagery, nevertheless it served it's purpose; to draw an analogy. Your post is just anal. (not that my reply isn't either) =D
The 9/11 Commission asserts (p. 51): "Many Americans have wondered, 'Why do 'they' hate us so much?' Some also ask, 'What can we do to stop these attacks?' Bin Laden and al Qaeda have given answers to both these questions. To the first, they say that America has attacked Islam.'" The issue surely is complicated w/ grey area, but at least Ron Paul investiages research and analysis; Giuliani takes the Bush approach of fact-less platitudes and scare tactics.
When Congressman Ron Paul, who has long served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, explained how 50 years of American interventionism in the Middle East has helped compromise our national security, Giuliani interrupted saying he had "never heard anything so absurd." This statement is particularly troubling coming from the former mayor who tries to cast himself as a security expert, since Dr. Paul's point comes directly from the bi-partisan 9-11 Commission Report.
In his 1997 interview with CNN, Bin Laden stated that he would send Clinton "messages with no words" in retaliation for the death of 500,000 Iraqi children who died as a result of sanctions. Those sanctions were in place because Clinton said Iraq had WMD. If there is a message that I may send through you, I address to the American troops who came here with their military uniforms walking proudly up and down our land. I say that this represents a blatant provocation to over one billion Muslims.
Of course, we know that fissionable material, from the failed Soviet Union and other sources, was floating around the world when the "Founding Fathers" commented on non-intervention.
I'm not a conservative. I'm a realist, and just happen to take the threat of Islamist militants very seriously. This Paul is an isolationist. The world is too dangerous for that kind of reactionary foreign policy.
Same thing he did as a Congressman when we were attacked on 9/11. He wouldn't use a legit war to divert our efforts to pursue special interests by starting another war, and he surely wouldn't lie to us and concoct false intelligence in order to do so.
I guess you'll have to ask Hillary..(and good luck with getting a straight answer). I'm not gonna speculate on who did what and why, but we've known since 1998 that it was policy to force regime change in Iraq. Ron Paul was against it then, against it in 2003, and is against it now. Hillary's husband was for the regime change in 1998 when he signed it into policy.
"Sanctions do not hurt political leaders, as we know most recently from our sanctions against Iraq, but rather sow misery among the poorest and most vulnerable segments of society. Dictators do not go hungry when sanctions are imposed."--Ron Paul, 6 May 2004. He is a strong opponent of sanctioning.
Perhaps, but they do encourage the people to rise up against their oppressor, yes? I believe it was only a question of time before Saddam started to build up more WMD's to keep Iran at bay.
lib - It's all one war. I know this will be, yet another area, where we will disagree, but then, we are fighting this same group of terrorists...it doesn't matter where they live, where they come from or who they are.
As for Saddam Hussein, he was a bad man, killing hundreds of thousands of people. Not abiding by all of those UN resolutions and still trying to keep the weapon inspectors out.
Only around 7% of resistance in Iraq are foreign. So it's not the same group, but Iraqis bent on fighting the occupying U.S. forces. I don't understand the logic behind the idea that if we stay we can make the situation better.. as if the Iraqi's will finally give up and let us build our 14 permanent bases in Iraq. I know I wouldn't have it in my homeland, and I know my fellow countrymen would fight it down to the last man.
lib - your statistics are in error. Also, where do you think their weapons are coming from? And your partially right about one thing, the Taliban will fight to the last man...not including the top terrorists, they get others to die for allah
Paul just needs to get out of the race now. Rudy is absolutely correct! Thank God we have a candidate for president that knows what he is doing! Paul is a disgrace the Republican Party!
Venable36: I like how you are clear and concise with your logical and well thought out arguments against Ron Paul. You and Rudy must have studied in the same "Talk a lot but say absolutely nothing" class at Mob Mentality University
Team Rudy and his confused 911 operators actually told people in the Twin Towers to stay in their offices (where they died), and it's been proven that Rudy almost singlehandedly killed all 343 firemen (thanks to the faulty radios). How do you lose 3,000 people in 2 hours and SPIN that into "leadership"?? This media corruption must stop.
Unfortunately, there are far more ignorant Americans than educated Americans. Here we are 6 years after 9/11, and people still don't know the real reasons behind the attack. Sad.
What does that have to do with bin Laden's reasons for wanting to attack us? Ron Paul points out that our foreign policy for the last 50 years is what led to 9/11. Guiliani tries an emotional appeal, distorting Pauls words and ignoring the facts. Most Americans side with Guiliani's uneducated "feelings" about why, while Paul points out the hard truth of the matter.
lib, it's their mind-set. It's how their being indoctrinated. To hate us. Look at the video. We, Americans, are not Muslim. Therefore, we should never put our feet on their land. Even if we are invited by other countries, in that area.
And I think we very well should keep our military out of these sovereign nations. As Ron Paul says, trade with them, maintain diplomatic relationships with them, but don't go "nation building" and "regime changing" because of oil (Iran 1953, Iraq 2003).. and ESPECIALLY don't do it under false pretenses. If we want to police the world and occupy sovereign nations, then it's only logic that we will be hated and that we will become less safe in America for supporting such policies.
Also, pay attention to Guiliani's response: "That's an extraordinary statement ... I don't think I've ever heard that before, and I've heard some pretty absurd explanations for 9/11 ... and I would ask the congressman to withdraw that comment and tell us he didn't really mean that." There is no substance whatsoever to Giuliani's response; he offers no refutation of Ron Paul's argument, yet the audience goes off clapping like a bunch of retards who just got candy.
Politics is such a game. Dr. Paul is so obviously correct. Of course it's true that we invited the 9/11 attacks with our interference in ME affairs. OBL and others have explicitly stated this, both before and after 9/11. Giuliani knows this; everyone knows this. For Giuliani to pretend otherwise is simply dishonest.
The big question is, how many people sde with the Mob Man? Giuliani needs to then explain to us, why these 12 terrorist attacked us....Wonder what his answer would be...."Beause they hate our freedom.".....Huh? Did I hit it on the nose or what? The Mob Man knows a lot more about 9/11 than any of those other candidates, yet he disagrees with Ron Paul? Why?..Staged?
