Clarification peoples: this didn't come from Obama's campaign(he didn't "approve this message") This came from a segment of his base who is observing the effectiveness of McCain's smear campaign and believes that it hasn't been enough to prove to be a better statesman with better policy. I agree that McCain was honorable regarding his fellow soldiers, but when Bush used congress to pardon himself from breaking the Geneva Convention so he couldn't be impeached and tried for war crimes, McCain backed him up to get GOP support for his nomination as President. Defending Obama, his campaign cited SIECUS curriculum as the model. The SIECUS curriculum goes far beyond appropriate touching. It supports a comprehensive approach to sex education, beginning as early as ages 5-8. For Level 1 sex education (ages 5 through 8), the guidelines include much more than appropriate touching. As a Vietnam Vet that is humbled by all my Brothers/Sisters that serve this great land -- I took exception to John Fraud Kerry after personally witnessing him in 1993 taking credit & praise for the MOH at the WALL, no less. He failed to tell the 3 Vets praising him that asked why he didn't wear his MOH ribbon, which he claimed was on his dresser --when he NEVER got MOH. That MOH John Fraud Kerry took credit & praise for truly belongs to Bob Kerrey ... the TRUE American Hero.

Humm, I have a family member who was recommended for the MOH for his actions in Vietnam. He was very softspoken and even keeled. I think his ability to keep calm under extreme circumstances is what made him the one who would save the lives of so many men. Having said that this is one persons view many years ago and really has little to do with what I would look at today regarding McCain's ability to govern.

It supports a comprehensive approach to sex education, beginning as early as ages 5-8. For Level 1 sex education (ages 5 through 8), the guidelines include much more than appropriate touching. The curriculum includes lines that even here are not appropriate. This is the model provided by the Obama campaign and no one else.

Wow. Just when I thought the Obama campaign couldn't get any more tasteless. Do they really not realize how universally offensive that ad is to every American outside of the grossly liberal mindset? I guess this is how dirty Chicago backroom politics is played, but America at large sees this as nauseatingly poor taste.

"Tell it like it is." Hmmm... a POW who's been tortured, humiliated and basically realizes everyday in captivity could be his last day to breath. I think I'd be a little pissed off and hell, maybe even volatile at times toward that situation. And what were YOU doing Mr. Butler? Cowering in a dark corner, crying for mommy and pissin' your pants? I think John McCain has had few years since then to think about his "feeeeeliings" and emotions of that time. Maybe he's even well adjusted by now.

No, what they are saying is that being a pow does not qualify someone to be president. In fact, it makes them a little unbalanced and prone to do irrational things. Plus, he's stuck in a time warp in Vietnam and the Cold War. We need to move on, not get bogged down with some dinosaur from the last century. It's not saying he's dishonorable, but that he will make a shitty president. If you think the economy is bad now, wait until those two get hold of it!

We need to put out that McCain gave up flight vectors and coordinates that were used by the North to shoot down and perhaps kill other American pilots. Many other POWs were treated just as badly and said nothing. Mc Cain SIGNED "confessions" and made Propaganda Films that were distributed worldwide. McCain also came home and made a living as an EX-POW. Dumped his loyal wife and married a Beer Princess. IN congress he sealed POW records. Truth Must COme Out.

It is a small distortion of the truth. What Mr. Bulter said has some grain of truth. It is admirable that John McCain decided to serve his country, however this does not give him an automatic pass to become president. It is McCain vision of America and his leadership abilities. Those are the issued that should be questioned.
It is rumoured that McCain always hides behind being a POW as an excuse, and let us hope this is not true.

Anyway, this is from an independent PAC, that stands for Political Action Committee boys and girls, and they have their own agenda and are in no way affiliated with the Obama campaign. Obama has said that he doesn't want PACs and 527s running ads for him and doesn't want people donating money to these organizations. It's not just his opinion, lots of other people who have worked with McCain, including Republicans, have remarked that they are afraid of McCain's famous temper and fear the prospect of him being the commander in chief. He totally overreacted to the situation in Georgia, a situation that the Georgians precipitated. We cannot afford another shoot from the hip mental defective in the white house.

As a Vietnam Vet that is humbled by all my Brothers/Sisters that serve this great land -- I took exception to John Fraud Kerry after personally witnessing him in 1993 taking credit & praise for the MOH at the WALL, no less. He failed to tell the 3 Vets praising him that asked why he didn't wear his MOH ribbon, which he claimed was on his dresser --when he NEVER got MOH. That MOH John Fraud Kerry took credit & praise for truly belongs to Bob Kerrey ... the TRUE American Hero.

Also, McCain doesn't use the POW thing to qualify him as president. The story is used to show that he was willing to do whatever it took for his country.

Humm, I have a family member who was recommended for the MOH for his actions in Vietnam. He was very softspoken and even keeled. I think his ability to keep calm under extreme circumstances is what made him the one who would save the lives of so many men. Having said that this is one persons view many years ago and really has little to do with what I would look at today regarding McCain's ability to govern.

It should have been made clear that Butler's comment about McCain's temper was based on observations of him as a fellow student at the Naval Academy, not as a fellow POW. People who haven't seen the entire original interview might be inclined to think it's perfectly rational for a POW to be a little pissed off. They missed an opportunity to hit McCain's military rep on two fronts, rather than missing their aim on just one.

He went on to earn a PhD and teach at the Naval Postgraduate school in Monterey. He has remained active ever since, publishing articles and advocating for his beliefs.
Beliefs which include speaking out against torture, which McCain has sadly somehow decided is now okay.
Just because someone has a different political posture than you doesn't mean they haven't succeeded in life.

I know Phil Butler. I know John McCain. I was a POW in Hanoi for six years. Phil Butler is hard core liberal Democrat. No one says having been a POW is what makes John McCain qualified to be President, but it is part of what makes him who he is. John McCain's experience in Vietnam redoubled his determination to serve his country which is exactly what he done, before during and since the war.
