Some of the best Les paul's out there today are from Orville and Edward's, both made in Japan and have insanley nice features and dirty finger pup's and can be had for under a grand.

rikimarufly, both 1984acl and biocave are wrong....... he gets that particular harmonic by using his finger on his left hand against the e string (just barely) touching the string while he strums it with his right hand and to prolong the harmonic you bend the e string after striking the harmonic. (THIS IS WHAT CAUSES THAT PARTICULAR SCREAM) nothing else!

i use dunlop 0.88 and i don't get the scream

Pinch harmonic + the bridge pickup + distortion. It's done with the right (picking) hand. You pick the note with your pick and the edge of your thumb. It's like you're pinching the string between your thumb and pick which causes the harmonic to be produced which is that "scream" sound. That's what he means by "choke down on the pick".

It is all in the right hand. Hit the string with part of your thumb at the same time as pick. Extend the wrist a little to do it. The pick attack will be a bit circular instead of straight down. You can get different pitches by moving the location of the right hand around a few cm. You will find it is easiest to get these around the lower frets 2-4. The location of the R hand is crucial. A few mm up or down the neck can make a huge difference.

hey man i can get the same sound by using the tip of my finger on the string too while its being picked to get the harmonic, man i've tried to do them w/ my thum, but it just doesn't work, doesn't quite get the scream, but it's close enough. also i do it w/ an SG which isn't the geatest guitar for harmonics.

You need a pick. Try to turn the overdrive(gain) on its maximum and guitar switch on bridge. Make the note with the pick and let your finger just touch the string, and i think you`ll gonna be there.
