damrau really is not a coloratura soprano...have no special ability for soprano.. many other lyrico sopranos can decorate like this...but good singer..undeniably..

@potterclubtv great perfomance i think. she is an amazing actress. but her singing is not so adorable. not so great agilita. lack of fluidity. i;ve got her Mazart CD and Strauss CD. i must say that the Strauss lyric voice more fit for her, in light coloatura, i prefer Sumi and Desay, in heavy, more serious coloatura roles, i prefer Mariella devia much more to her . i think she is changing her repertoires to more lyric roles(Strauss) and i think that's good choice.

@potterclubtv she's in my opinion the best queen ever. But many coloraturas can't sing queen, and many good queens can't do all the coloratura repertoire - at least not better than others. Queen i something unique, a role of its own, like traviata. But i agree with you, you have to be coloratura to sing it, and Damrau IS.

Reading all this criticism let me think that there´s no musician around. Because when it was then everybody knew how hard this aria is and that she sang it very well. If everyone of you would make a similar good job in his daily work than Diana then the world would be a lot better.

yeah lets see them try and sing this aria cuz my neice is a soprao and she tried singing it and it took her two months to get this aria right!

Sure, she owns the coloratura demands, and makes the piece "hers", but she doesn't even try to trill! Has anyone ever seriously heard her trill? Her "O zittre nicht" and "Grossmächtige Prinzessin" didn't have trills.

I have always missed the trill with Damrau. I have only once heard a trill. It was in a Rigoletto video. I'm not sure which, though. She sang a proper trill at the end!

Oh, please. There's no need to be catty. I'm as much a fan of her as the next person, but that doesn't mean I'll ignore her obvious flaws. While her range is stratospheric, she's often out of breath. While her coloratura is always precise, she cannot always strike a trill. While I'll admit that those hardly deter her from overcoming many of the roles of opera, it still frustrates me because a trill is there for a reason.

I miss some of the complete ease she had in her singing a few years ago, now I feel she's a bit aggressive in her approach to almost everything. A really good rendition of an incredibly difficult aria, though!

I must agree! I miss her effortless voice, it seems as if the coloratura is coming out a little more forced. But this is still wonderful to listen to, no doubt about its quality.

A mí al principio Berg y compañía tampoco me decían mucho, pero es cuestión de tiempo que te gusten. Todo es práctica xD Sobre todo con la ópera de Strauss y Wagner, pero también con el Lieder.
