If you dont like lsx's then your a idiot and dont know anything about cars cause you are so full of ur self and are still stuck on rotarys I got a 86 with a ls1 I took it across the scales and it weighed 2680lbs curb weight is 2695 stock for mpg I get 32mpg on the highway a ls corvette gets 28mpg so I would say thats pretty good. You got to in 1/4 track and lsx's rule the strip , you go drifting and lsx's rule drift
Skeckevo you are gay going to all v8 rx7's to talk shit. rotary engines don't last and built right rx7 v8s are the shit your just jealous!!! After sending 1000's of $ on four rotaries and only averaging 10-30k an engine I made the swap and I'll never look back!!!!
@TheRexv8 10-30k an engine? you must be getting ripped off.....
I've had Brian D Cain in texas build me a bridge ported 13B with tuning, for $5k..... and that motor made 560hp/480tq on a 1.06 T4 35R @25psi on 93 and has been doing so for 20k miles worth of road courses and highway pulls, and the last 3 years at the Florida Mile and Texas mile getting 187-190mph using a 3.90 rear end ratio with about 2k rpms of power left
i onw a 1981 mazda rx7 and i would never scrap the legendary rotary engine, mostly because its an original 12a, and they dont make that motor any more
Lol of these comments make me feel sick. Rotards complain because of the engine swap and talk shit for different reasons. The v8, my dick is smaller than everyone elses so I need a huge amount of displacement to make me feel good about myself, talk shit for the same reasons. A ls engine is a great beast.. and so is a 13b/20b. Both are extremely reliable, get shitty gas mileage, sound awesome, and HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE FAST. Stop bitching about what kind of car the engine is in.
@slitherz90 No one remembers that Chevy was trying to make their Sting Ray body vettes with a rotary.... a 4 rotor at that, they couldnt find out how to keep the apex seals lubricated after Mazda already found the magic material to use for the apex seals (steel or carbon). Mazda just used vacuum operated oil injectors with a metering pump
@rotor13 I hope you are talking about previous generation sting rays a.k.a 80s.... because it was already stated chevy didnt have the money to put that kind of development into the new sting ray...
wow all i see here is a bunch of fighting over swapping RX-7s
i own both a rotary powered rx-7 and a v8 rx-7
i daily drive the rotary because it is reliable(it is non-turbo) and it has AC
but the v8 car is way more fun. the v8 car is the one that i race at the track both Autocross and Road Racing and it is a very good car for the track, plenty of power and even with the v8 in the front has very good handling.
before you make assumptions about rotaries or v8 rx-7s ... please... do some research
@Daeldalus1989 Very well said..... My dad own a C6Z with a mild cam, headers and a very aggressive tune making about 610hp, my FD makes about 520hp on a 35R.
Both our cars are dead reliable, but i dont drive my FD as a daily but i do drive it frequently, as i have a 600hp Audi RS6 as my daily.... you know its bad when a tuned german car gets worse gas mileage than a highly tuned rotary.
It all about taste. If i didnt love the rotary as much as i do, i wouldnt hesitate to put an LS6, 7 or X
defeats the purpose of owning an rx7...mazda should make a rule stating all rx-models shall not be swapped, only engine to be replaced is another rotary engine.
I like the rotary and the idea behind it but when you think about it what is the point of falling in love with an engine that loses reliability as you gain performance? You can have a 1200 horsepower v8 that is a reliable daily driver. It is just makes much more sense to drop a big v8 in that right off is making the same gas millage and twice or three times the power with being a reliable engine. Oh and plus you wouldn't need the e-brake to get that thing sideways. ;)
@wertylishis with love comes compromise. we compromise reliability, gas mileage, and our bank accounts to have a 1.3 litre eat your little v-8s for breakfast
@wertylishis same gas mileage WTF its a V8 and knowing that its an rx7 fc3s probably an LS1 which is like 18 or less miles to the gallon and V8's sound like shit anyway. and to get sideways you dont need ebrake to drift a rotary powered car or any tuned JDM motor there is clutch kicking feint and braking to initiate a drift besides you cant rely on straight torque to keep your car drifting
@xstr33tr4cerx Yes, YOU CAN rely on torque for drifting......
look at all the V8 swapped S13/14, 350z, G35, supercharged mustangs and vettes and GTO's etc etc.... most of the V8s in competition drifting have basic mods like heads and cam and headers and an aggressive tune. and they make equal torque as power and they dont have to rev as high.
plus any properly tuned engine can get great economy as well, my dads C6Z gets 28-32mpg on the highway and my 520hp FD RX7 gets around 28-30mpg
lol I love how everyone says dude why would you do that to that car, yet I bet all you rotary kids would give your left nut to drive this thing for a day and be disappointing when you have to listen to your 13b giving its all to get you home
hey rotary is garbage.... i dont know how anyone could have a convo with you with out spewing out insults, you sound like a knob. all the vids you comment on are just average looking rx7s doing average burnouts. there are plenty of rotarys doing better burnouts drifting and quarters. you say the rotary is a failure? there is a few doing 6 sec quarter mile, and leading the drift seen, rotaries are kick ass if you dont like em fine but shut the fuck up until you know what your talking about
Bwaaa look at my loud pedal... Congrats on making the car's hillbilly level increase dramatically.
Did you know that they actually build cars that have v8's stock? zomg yes they do! Saves you the trouble of ruining this car by putting a shitty sounding engine in it...
i have yet to understand why people say its a RX7 when this is not an RX7. RX7 dont have any pistons so you failed at naming the vehicle for what it is. The Engine makes the car not the body. so you should change the title to what this vehicle trully is. NOT a RX7!
@CrashFC3S Well, your wrong. The reason they gave it the name RX-7 IS because of it's motor. That's how JAPAN names most of their engines off of. For instance the 240z. It has a 2.4L inline 6 engine in it so they came up with 240z. Another example would be the R100, it was the first series of rotary engine built buy Mazda so they named it the r100. Then came along the Rx-2. Rotary times (x) 2nd generation. And it goes all the way up to the Rx-8 which is the rotary times (x) 8 generations.
@Subsw00fers Sorry buddy your wrong, I’ve owned three FC Rx7's, Rx7 doesn't stand for Rotary (x) 7 generations...(don't give invalid info to people its misleading) it stands for Rotary Experiment # 7 and they change the number (7 in this case) every time they change the design of the motor. There are 4 generations of the "Rx7" alone (SA22C, FB3S, FC3S, FD3S) Then they changed the ports on the Renesis so they changed the name of the car to the Rx8. Go to Rx7club.com and ask anyone.
@CrashFC3S At least I know I was close. Plus the Japanese got their names out of engines so yes and no on the datsun. It wouldn't be a 510 anymore but a 13b or 20b what ever was put inside the engine bay. And they had the Rx4 and Rx5 not sure about an Rx6 though.
its pointless to put a v8 in a rx7.....you defeat the purpose of OWNING an rx7.....get a 240 and put a v8 in it...but not an rx7...one gets an rx7 to have the rotary engine and becuase its the only car that has it....along with the rest RX models
Rotaries make power, but those who honestly think theyre reliable are kidding themselves. Ive owned my share of Rotaries, and they can be running fine one day, start them up the next morning and they'll drop a seal. A fast rotor is hard to beat in the fun drive department. Never owned an 8 but I see the attraction definitely.
I personally would never put an LSX in my 7's because the rotary engine is the whole reason I have them. In reality though, the 13b is capable of 800+bhp on just 2 rotors.
Take it a step further to a 20b 3-rotor. Built, they are capable of 1500+bhp.
Note the simplicity of the design.
The main difference between the rotary and the v8 is price.
It's cheaper and easier to find parts for a domestic v8 than it is for a limited production engine that's been phased out.
Seriously dude.. just because you don't have the knowledge and skill to build a high powered rotor, doesn't mean you have to spread your mindless hate!
@stangalltheway yeah its true, i personally dont like it when they swap the rotary out for a cylinder, but it does make sense if you want a daily driver. Rotary u gotta be committed to rebuilding it often
@catfisher10100, because he is a workin class guy that cant afford to make power outa the wenkel, like most of us that work for a living look for cheap reliable power that takes a beating and doesnt beat the lint out of the wallet
@ADD8oi Your just an ignorant redneck. Don't even try to fucking argue with me.. "cause an Ls series is better lmao" Is the dumbest thing i've ever heard.. You don't know shit about fucking engines let alone a fucking Rotary engine..
@catfisher10100 i know that a 350 makes more power than your precious rotaries while n/a and weighing in at the same while also getting better fuel mileage and being more reliable, not to mention it sounds much better than a rotary, lmao, i probably know more about engines than you do you rotard LMAO peace out dumbfuck
@ADD8oi Rotary engines are one of the best sounding engines out there.. a V8 is getting the same damn gas mileage as a Rotary. Also V8's and rotarys are about the same when it comes to reliability except rotarys can rev to the sky,.. And as far as a V8 weighing the same as a Rotary engine haha yous so fucking dumb.. The biggest production rotary engine is a 2.0 and will knock the dust off of any v8s pussy..
@catfisher10100 llmao rotard alert, displacement means nothing with weight, gosh kid, go back to need for speed, you clearly dont know anything about cars or physics in fact
Does any1 know if a 5.2L Piston can hit 700-930hp N/A on Race Gas? If so please send me the link to the video I want to see it. No Boost, No Nitro, Stock internals. Pure American Muscle power with no funny stuff.
god why do you all hate the peeps that take a rotary out of a car?? is it bad to be different from everyone else?? so just stfu and admire the car for what it is. nice car btw.
Man the Haters! Great ride. They could bark all they want about the swap. But after blowing up and rebuilding countless rotaries. you cant beat the reliability of a SBC or SBF. You cant beat a rotary like that constanly.
To compare the two engines... Both engines are race proven. V8 Corvettes sweep the classes they are in at LeMans almost every year. Rotary engines are almost unbeatable for reliability in high horsepower and race situations. The engine doesnt win the race tho. The brakes, handling and weight balancing and overall weight of the car are far more importiant in racing. If a guy wants to throw a 'Vette motor into a car I revere then he made a worthy choice. The car and engine are both world class.
@sdbarn1980 People that blow up rotaries are clueless that when they turn the boost to extreme levels there is more that they need to do to make it reliable. I ran a '88 Turbo for seven years at 492 rwhp (stock being a third of that at around 160 rwhp). As a daily driver that I was heavy on the throttle constantly, with no issues, it was reliable enough. Any informed person with $ can build a great engine on any platform just as a moron that tries to build one on the cheap can easily blow one up
@Echoboy2002, 492rwhp eh, on an everyday driver for seven years. If it is true, nice. If you built yours right (extra dowels/large extendport/bigger turbo/large fmic/bigger injectors/high qaulity side and apex seals) and then had it tuned with a decent aftermarket ecu with a buttload of dyno time, and a decent warm up every morning and shorter service intervals, it can be done. You must have been running a decent size turbo for that power figure.
@Echoboy2002 yeah but dont forget the 787b because of the engine... if ya a racer ya should know the few details that makes your car fantastic .. its unbeatable because 1st the rotary are reliable.2nd the small engine could produce high power.the light weight of that vehicle are due to the things mentioned. its the reason for a good braking system, and better handling. moreover do you know whuts the reason the engine are reliable?cause they limited the power.that car could have been alot faster.
@Echoboy2002 a lighter car generate less wear to both tires and braking.... and the limitation of that engine could have been increase to as high as 11k(limited at 9kRPM) the leMans engineers were shock to estimated that the rotary engine could have made it through another 24hrs race without problems. now is it the same?? they were never the same...
@BobMarley3132 You seem to be trying to argue something but we aren't sure what that is.
Being light weight is part of the package and does enhance the improvements you've made but it's not the cure-all. Example: If u have bad brakes then you might get away with doing a few hot laps but anyone that prepared their half assed car will pass you because you cant stop when your brakes are melting down.
We know Mazda is the only Jap automaker to complete Le Mans. We love em. Thats why we are here.
@Echoboy2002 you said that the v8s are the same with the rotors and most of all you said the engine was not important and its not the key of winning. The stability, braking and other elements are the key point of winning???? well my point is, the Rotary engine is an important key of winning. and that is due to its light weight.(smaller size engine) when ya have a lighter front for an FR car its easier to balance it. besides better handling, the other advantages are the wear and tear. 01of 02
@Echoboy2002 a lighter car don't need to change the parts as often, and Hello its Lemans we're talking about here. it runs 24hrs.if even prepared half assed car have to change parts during the race. they even change the drivers... the lesser ya change yer parts the more time ya save.now, what makes the rotary special??there's no piston engine with the same weight of the rotary engine could produce the same power of the rotary. As Such it makes alot of differences in terms of the engine ..02 of 02
Well, I've owned a HKS stage 5 '88 Turbo II. I bought it new and put the parts in right away. They are difficult to beat for sure. I have to say though... they aren't great around town. Zero power until at least 3k RPM. Frightful gas consumption. Twitchy at the limit in braking and handling... Sometimes downright scary. Do I want another on? Obviously.
uhh read what i said.....typical rebuild time for the turbo rotary is 80k miles.....and a v8 is well over 100k....how can you come and then say BUT pistons wear out faster than rotors....no it doesnt work like that
if the rotary engine was bad why would they have made them since the late 60s ... yes a engine design which is shit really stays for 50 years doesnt it... totally makes sence. rotarys rule and fuck you all who think otherwise.
They didn't. Like I said, Mazda wanted to make a car for a niche group of stupid people, that liked being different. Who else but a stupid person would put up with an engine that floods if you look at it wrong, consumes the same quantity of fuel as an engine 4 to 5 times its size, has no torque and not much horsepower, and uses oil like a piston engine with over 300K miles and bad rings.
and thats why they dont use oil with a oil cooler and are similar setup to a twostroke piston engine... i bet that if i lined up a rotor and an old school v8 from the same year the rotor would shit all over it... dont need torque when you can rev to 14k
They made them becuase they could appeal to a niche market of fools that would buy the engine just to be different. Again, if the rotary was so good why did Mazda only use them in one car and why doesn't any other company in the world use them.
it depends on what you prefer... i prefer high amounts of horsepower as opposed to a low rev limit with high torque... we are just going to have to agree to disagree or this argument will take up the rest of the page lol
What? are you retarded? You do realize that horsepower is a function of torque and horsepower. What low rev limit?? The LS7 revs up to 7000 rpm and produces over 500 horsepower. You are a really moron.
You should go learn about Physics and cars before you come on here and make stupid comments. Without torque there would be no horsepower. Horsepower = Torque * RPM / 5252. With higher torque you can have higher horsepower and not have to rev. the engine as high. But I guess if you like a no torque engine that revs high and doesn't produce much horsepower either, more power to ya.
that this helps with reputation and sales, you are sorely mistaken. Again there is a reason why people replace the engine with another power plant and not the other way around.
So all profitable sales cannot have recalls or mistakes at all? Honestly, would Mazda still keep making Rx8s if their rotaries are really that bad? And even if they were losing profits, that doesn't mean that they can't use profits from other sales to make a sportscar. It's kind of like Xbox and Microsoft.
You just ruined a perfectly good MAZDA RX7 by throwing that god-awful sounding gas guzzling hunk of shit motor into a car that already had a perfectly good buildable motor in it. You sir, are a dumbshit. And I hope someone stales that car so you learn your lesson, bitch!
I disagree. I think you are the ignorant one. I've noticed you've been busy arguing on Youtube. Don't go on a rotary video sayng it sucks and should be replaced with a v8. You're just asking to get criticized/argued/flamed at...unless that was what you were trying to do. Be more mature. Thanks and I apologize if this comment offended you.
Cool car, it's a free world for the time being, So if you want to put a hamster on a wheel for power God speed.BTW I am a hard core Rotar head, pp 13b,650 holley on raceing beat intake etc.etc.etc.Making about 285 hp. Nitous is next for me! Rock on.Life is short drive fast!
I love how as soon as i sign in, i have five unread messages from you. Speak your heart out, no one gives a shit. You dont prove anything, i ask you a question and you dont answer, just an idiotic response that makes you feel better.
Yeah keep changing the subject. Get off of the one you just lost. I have answered all your questions. You on the other had keep diverting. Keep it up so we can see how dumb you really are.
consindering it used to have a REW with a gt42 and all supporting equipment you my friend are the fuck tard.......i want death trap fast.... not to have a novelty engine
the 20b is a 3 rotor and your talking about putting in a 26b (2 13b's) which cost much more than this swap and would weight more. right now i'm considering this lsx swap for my fc

@HelloOfficerGL not to mention rotary engines make about 1lb of torque for every 150HP (;

ADD8oi 9 months ago
@ADD8oi Rotary engines are one of the best sounding engines out there.. a V8 is getting the same damn gas mileage as a Rotary. Also V8's and rotarys are about the same when it comes to reliability except rotarys can rev to the sky,.. And as far as a V8 weighing the same as a Rotary engine haha yous so fucking dumb.. The biggest production rotary engine is a 2.0 and will knock the dust off of any v8s pussy..

Echoboy2002 3 years ago 9
@Echoboy2002, Rotaries and reliable in the same sentence makes
me laugh. the only reliable rotary is a dam spit roast. As for the rest of what you say,
very true, it is more than an engine to win a race, it is all about the car setup and
having a worthy driver.
sdbarn1980 1 year ago
@sdbarn1980 People that blow up rotaries are clueless that when they turn the boost to extreme levels there is more that they need to do to make it reliable. I ran a '88 Turbo for seven years at 492 rwhp (stock being a third of that at around 160 rwhp). As a daily driver that I was heavy on the throttle constantly, with no issues, it was reliable enough. Any informed person with $ can build a great engine on any platform just as a moron that tries to build one on the cheap can easily blow one up
Echoboy2002 1 year ago
@Echoboy2002, 492rwhp eh, on an everyday driver for seven years. If it is true, nice. If you built yours right (extra dowels/large extendport/bigger turbo/large fmic/bigger injectors/high qaulity side and apex seals) and then had it tuned with a decent aftermarket ecu with a buttload of dyno time, and a decent warm up every morning and shorter service intervals, it can be done. You must have been running a decent size turbo for that power figure.
sdbarn1980 1 year ago
@sdbarn1980 Yeah... You know what you are talkin about =) Cheers! Hope to see you on other vid comments!!
Echoboy2002 1 year ago
@Echoboy2002 yeah but dont forget the 787b because of the engine... if ya a racer ya should know the few details that makes your car fantastic .. its unbeatable because 1st the rotary are reliable.2nd the small engine could produce high power.the light weight of that vehicle are due to the things mentioned. its the reason for a good braking system, and better handling. moreover do you know whuts the reason the engine are reliable?cause they limited the power.that car could have been alot faster.
BobMarley3132 1 year ago
@Echoboy2002 a lighter car generate less wear to both tires and braking.... and the limitation of that engine could have been increase to as high as 11k(limited at 9kRPM) the leMans engineers were shock to estimated that the rotary engine could have made it through another 24hrs race without problems. now is it the same?? they were never the same...
BobMarley3132 1 year ago
@BobMarley3132 You seem to be trying to argue something but we aren't sure what that is.
Being light weight is part of the package and does enhance the improvements you've made but it's not the cure-all. Example: If u have bad brakes then you might get away with doing a few hot laps but anyone that prepared their half assed car will pass you because you cant stop when your brakes are melting down.
We know Mazda is the only Jap automaker to complete Le Mans. We love em. Thats why we are here.
Echoboy2002 1 year ago
@Echoboy2002 you said that the v8s are the same with the rotors and most of all you said the engine was not important and its not the key of winning. The stability, braking and other elements are the key point of winning???? well my point is, the Rotary engine is an important key of winning. and that is due to its light weight.(smaller size engine) when ya have a lighter front for an FR car its easier to balance it. besides better handling, the other advantages are the wear and tear. 01of 02
BobMarley3132 1 year ago
@Echoboy2002 a lighter car don't need to change the parts as often, and Hello its Lemans we're talking about here. it runs 24hrs.if even prepared half assed car have to change parts during the race. they even change the drivers... the lesser ya change yer parts the more time ya save.now, what makes the rotary special??there's no piston engine with the same weight of the rotary engine could produce the same power of the rotary. As Such it makes alot of differences in terms of the engine ..02 of 02

Echoboy2002 1 year ago
Well, I've owned a HKS stage 5 '88 Turbo II. I bought it new and put the parts in right away. They are difficult to beat for sure. I have to say though... they aren't great around town. Zero power until at least 3k RPM. Frightful gas consumption. Twitchy at the limit in braking and handling... Sometimes downright scary. Do I want another on? Obviously.
Echoboy2002 3 years ago

wrong the rotary can pick up the speed and power it will last longer than a v8.
who puts a v8 into a fc you gotta leavve it rotary. wat a disgrace

bankai865 2 years ago
uhh read what i said.....typical rebuild time for the turbo rotary is 80k miles.....and a v8 is well over 100k....how can you come and then say BUT pistons wear out faster than rotors....no it doesnt work like that

if the rotary engine was bad why would they have made them since the late 60s ... yes a engine design which is shit really stays for 50 years doesnt it... totally makes sence. rotarys rule and fuck you all who think otherwise.
Nigelmalibu 3 years ago
Probably a business write off. That is why all of their other cars have pistson engines, becuase the rotary is so good..LOL moron.
aji8 3 years ago
and thats why rx7s came standard with v8s ... nice
Nigelmalibu 3 years ago
They didn't. Like I said, Mazda wanted to make a car for a niche group of stupid people, that liked being different. Who else but a stupid person would put up with an engine that floods if you look at it wrong, consumes the same quantity of fuel as an engine 4 to 5 times its size, has no torque and not much horsepower, and uses oil like a piston engine with over 300K miles and bad rings.
aji8 3 years ago
and thats why they dont use oil with a oil cooler and are similar setup to a twostroke piston engine... i bet that if i lined up a rotor and an old school v8 from the same year the rotor would shit all over it... dont need torque when you can rev to 14k
Nigelmalibu 3 years ago
LOL...don't need torque? You are a moron. Rev to 14K. My Rx7's redline is NOT near that, and if you have a turbo it even is less.
aji8 3 years ago
no, you dont... if you have a extremely high rev limit and revs really fast it balances it out
Nigelmalibu 3 years ago
They made them becuase they could appeal to a niche market of fools that would buy the engine just to be different. Again, if the rotary was so good why did Mazda only use them in one car and why doesn't any other company in the world use them.
Answer: It is a unique but junk engine.
aji8 3 years ago
it depends on what you prefer... i prefer high amounts of horsepower as opposed to a low rev limit with high torque... we are just going to have to agree to disagree or this argument will take up the rest of the page lol
Nigelmalibu 3 years ago
What? are you retarded? You do realize that horsepower is a function of torque and horsepower. What low rev limit?? The LS7 revs up to 7000 rpm and produces over 500 horsepower. You are a really moron.
aji8 3 years ago
You should go learn about Physics and cars before you come on here and make stupid comments. Without torque there would be no horsepower. Horsepower = Torque * RPM / 5252. With higher torque you can have higher horsepower and not have to rev. the engine as high. But I guess if you like a no torque engine that revs high and doesn't produce much horsepower either, more power to ya.
aji8 3 years ago
that this helps with reputation and sales, you are sorely mistaken. Again there is a reason why people replace the engine with another power plant and not the other way around.
aji8 3 years ago
So all profitable sales cannot have recalls or mistakes at all? Honestly, would Mazda still keep making Rx8s if their rotaries are really that bad? And even if they were losing profits, that doesn't mean that they can't use profits from other sales to make a sportscar. It's kind of like Xbox and Microsoft.
vr00m123 3 years ago
Yes they would because morons like you will keep buying them just to say you have a "rotary" dumb!
