When i Look into the viewfindern when the viewfinder is put down i can see what i record but when im going to film fisheye angels i have to put up the viewfinder so i can see what i record but when i do that it gets dark i cant see anything so i have to restart the camera and put the viewfinder down again and then it works but when i put it up again it gets dark.. Is this the ribbon cable?

Hey I have a VX1000, and the viewfinder works fine, but when you put a tape in, a little triangle appears on the screen and it won't record. It won't play a tape back when in VCR mode either. The tape ejects fine and all other camera features work.

PLEASE HELP mine was working fine slowly started fuzzing up as time went on and now its just showing a bunch of lines in the viewfinder but the camera still films fine and footage comes out sweet on the capture cam. is this a ribbon cable problem?
@DoItLikeKeat Thats usually not how the viewfinder goes out, so im not too sure.. But as long as the footage you are capturing looks fine, I would imagine it is something wrong with the viewfinder cable. Try plugging in your VX to a TV using the yellow video plug (if you have one lying around) ... The image on your TV should be clean. If not, then your problem needs to be handled by professionals.

If I was sure it was the ribbon cable I would have picked it up for $316.99 as well. But, the purple-ness throws me off a little.. chances are though, it is the cable.

@uncfilmer It connects the feed of the microphone to ur camera. as well as the record light i believe. if the cable just came out u can find the slot and push it back in, if you ripped it, idk lol, u might have to order that cable too, or just ship it off to videoelectronics.
if the viewfinder goes really dark but u can still slightly see the image is that the ribbon cable??? it works but if i move it slightly is goes dark hit me back thanks a lot

@MyraMilani you have a fractured CCD. sometimes this is only a matter of re-fastening a cable, but its fairly difficult to do because its deeeep inside the camera, and requires a lot of dismantling. talk to Kerry through email at Videoelectronics.tv ... hes the repair guru that can get ur VX back in business.

Yo, just wanted to say thanks for posting the VX Ribbon walk through. I just bought an old VX for 350 and fixed it within 2 hrs thanks to this. It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be.
Well, Assuming you're gonna be extremely careful and cautious, its probably going to take a few hours. I can finish it in about an hour now that I have done it more than once tho.

your viewfinder has nothing to do with the results of imported footage... if your footage looks broken (green) when you get it onto your computer, theres another problem, possibly fractured CCDs.
when i say green though, i dont just mean a tint, im talkin like, its neon green all over the place.

yeah . that might mean that the cable is starting to tear. the way the viefinder was set up makes the bottom of it rub on he cable and after a while of rubbin it starts tearing. i know a guy who sells them for 25 . hes legit.

vx1000, by far best day colors, has the widest fisheye with no mods or step rings, but doesn't have a lcd screen or good night colors. vx2000 has a cheap good fisheye that can be pretty wide when modded, and no step rings. has awesome night colors and if you know what you're doing good day colors. mk2 also goes on vx2000 and its almost as good as the 1000's mk1. but many people say vx1000 is the way to go, i'd say vx2000 though if you have the money, because it is newer and doesn't need repairs.
braided fishing line. my vx fell on the mic and cracked most of the clips holding it on so my friend gave me this weird fishing line to fix it. its been almost a year and its still in place
Ive heard of people putting a small rubber band around the back part of the mic where that black rubber is. that should make it more firm but idk if it will help the sag.
so putting it back together once the cable is in the viewfinder like at 3:37 you just stick the viewfinder back where it was and stick the cable in to the part at 3:18? and it should just work?. cause the repair dude was like burn something on or something like that.
no no man. its just a simple cable replacement. you just plug it in. no soldering. You're leaving everything the way you originally found it, except the new cables you order come in a slightly different shape to reduce friction. Getting that cable through the little hole correctly is the only tricky part.
i've never heard of them but i bought a vx1000 from japan that was used only once since the previous owner bought it in 1998 which is pretty much brand new
i just called them and they said that there not new, there used but the guy said most of them come with all the original accessory's , and he said all the ones they get are at lease a 7/10 in condition, and everything is working. But i would call them yourself, to make sure they verify everything

First whip out your dong, than stick it in the battery port, leave it there for five minutes eat a sandwich remove benis close battery door turn on vx1000, BAM! microphone will work. Let me knoww if you have any more questions bunn.
Like this movie I had to replace the flatcable of the moving cassette part. I had to pay for the flatcable about € 250 euro. For ordering all components you need the Sony ordernumbers. You can find all components parts discriptions and ordernumbers in the DCR-VX1000 manual. I have used VX-1000 for years also on all my hollidays. Nicest of all was the sharp & crisp picture quality. Now i use VX2000 and i like that also a lot.

So I just got my VX1k in the mail today, i recorded a little test video (with a brand new sony premium), and then after uploading it onto the computer with my capture cam, I noticed the audio was delayed.

When looking through the veiwfinder everything is extremely dark and very hard to see. Everything appears to be shades of dark purple.
Is that the ribbon cable?

Rename your post. What you are doing is replacing a ribbon cable not Repairing one, not all ribbon cables can be replaced.

vx1000, by far best day colors, has the widest fisheye with no mods or step rings, but doesn't have a lcd screen or good night colors. vx2000 has a cheap good fisheye that can be pretty wide when modded, and no step rings. has awesome night colors and if you know what you're doing good day colors. mk2 also goes on vx2000 and its almost as good as the 1000's mk1. but many people say vx1000 is the way to go, i'd say vx2000 though if you have the money, because it is newer and doesn't need repairs.

braided fishing line. my vx fell on the mic and cracked most of the clips holding it on so my friend gave me this weird fishing line to fix it. its been almost a year and its still in place

Ive heard of people putting a small rubber band around the back part of the mic where that black rubber is. that should make it more firm but idk if it will help the sag.

so putting it back together once the cable is in the viewfinder like at 3:37 you just stick the viewfinder back where it was and stick the cable in to the part at 3:18? and it should just work?. cause the repair dude was like burn something on or something like that.

no no man. its just a simple cable replacement. you just plug it in. no soldering. You're leaving everything the way you originally found it, except the new cables you order come in a slightly different shape to reduce friction. Getting that cable through the little hole correctly is the only tricky part.

i just called them and they said that there not new, there used but the guy said most of them come with all the original accessory's , and he said all the ones they get are at lease a 7/10 in condition, and everything is working. But i would call them yourself, to make sure they verify everything

Make sure you set the ribbon in correctly i had to do one shiny side and then other side was bronze for the ribbon

Like this movie I had to replace the flatcable of the moving cassette part. I had to pay for the flatcable about € 250 euro. For ordering all components you need the Sony ordernumbers. You can find all components parts discriptions and ordernumbers in the DCR-VX1000 manual. I have used VX-1000 for years also on all my hollidays. Nicest of all was the sharp & crisp picture quality. Now i use VX2000 and i like that also a lot.

So I just got my VX1k in the mail today, i recorded a little test video (with a brand new sony premium), and then after uploading it onto the computer with my capture cam, I noticed the audio was delayed.
