See, this is the kind of atheist I like. I'm an atheist too but so many atheists are so far up their own ass that any time they meet a religious person they go into apeshit mode and try to pick a fight, instead of simply respecting each others differences.
Seriously, fuck the people like the amazingatheist, we need more critical thinkers like Jilette or Dawkins, people who have a stern disagreement, but for an actual reason besides "LOLIMANEDGYATHEISTLOLXD".
@AdventEdge As a Christian, I respect an atheist like you that challenge my views intellegently, unlike Robin420z. People like you force me to think more about what I believe and why. We may not agree on theology, but we can give each other respect.
please dont stone us to death for trying to marry someone of another religion, please dont banish all the homosexuals to hell for being happy, were all brothers and sisters (from africa actually), so lets build a bridge ;)
when you say "ummm.. actually he was real and i know this" then what if i said "umm.. he never exsisted and i know this" i would be just as ignorant as u, i cant say for sure he did not exsist, i would rather say i dont know because it keeps me asking questions and learning, some of us are smart enough to know how ignorant we are, some of us are just plain ignorant, and ya im glad were takin god outa schools, now we can move forward and not back to the golden ages
@robbin420z Well I'm sorry if I seem ignorant and I wasn't trying to ok, if you don't believe that Historics did say that Jesus was a real person then ok. This isn't worth arguing over. You believe what you believe and I believe what I believe. So lets move on with our lives because I'm not going to turn this into an arguement. And lets build a better future for the world and spread some peace.
@Cappythecat3351 yes i already know im allowed to beleive what i want and i dont care what u beleive thats fine and yes u were ignorant when u said "um actually Jesus was a real person" thats where i had to be jerk to even u out, ive got things to back that up but i dont want to get into it as well, it would be awesome if u could watch the words u use and try saying "i beleive there was a jesus" instead of "um actually Jesus was a real person" i like balance, u pushed it, i pushed back
OK I'm getting really sick of this arguing!! I believe in Christ and for those of you who don't believe in him then thats ok. Why should we build a wall between us just because somebody believes and somebody doesn't?! For the Christians it was Jesus who said spread the light of the world all around. So I'm going to spread his light. Even those who don't believe, I still love you cause you are my brothers and sisters of the world. So, Let's build bridges and not walls
i think your going to go for eternity of happiness but i dont know this for sure i dont want to make an assumption, i dont understand why u feel your individual beliefs need to be preached, i dont understand why your side deserves to be heard when you wont even try to hear both sides, its people like you that upset ppl like me that are here to balance, when you go extreme, ill be there, one day you'll share the world instead of being so blind and selfish
telling me jesus "is real" is kind of lying to yourself, telling me u "believe" hes real is great, awesome, perfect, beautiful. but what if i told you jesus "IS NOT REAL" u would probably feel offended, thats not my intenton, i dont know if hes real or not i just dont "beleive" hes real and were both allowed to beleive what we want, u dont have to make assumptions when u've never met jesus urself, i hope one day you'll listen to everything instead of just what you want to hear, be fair cmon
@robbin420z um actually Jesus was a real person who just spread the word of God. Christians "believe" that he was the savior. Jesus indeed was actually a real person in history who spread Christianity in ancient Rome. So if you believe he was the Messiah or not is actually the real arguement
@Cappythecat3351 also I'm not saying this because the Bible said so, it was actually true fact. Its also in History books now and kids are learning this in school now too
@Cappythecat3351 lol u talk about biulding a bridge and being sick of the arguing but then there u go again bein as ignorant as the rest of u ppl, "umm... actually... he WAS real" because u actually shook his hand right? because he talks to u in ur sleep right? that makes him real? without one shred of document recorded or bones or anything u will still blindly follow and thats fine just as i will blindly follow the fact he did not exist and his story was stolen from egyptians
@robbin420z u ppl? You basically saying that we're completly different then you. We're all the same. I bet there isn't as much difference between us then you think
@Cappythecat3351 i used "u ppl" because almost everyone that gets sucked into a religion seems to claim that athiest are baby eating hitlers and that were the lesser being in some stupid way just because u have a label so now ur special. there are horrible ppl on both sides, and i only speak up when one of u spout off about how gods really real, i dont care if u beleive hes real but if u tell me hes real but cant prove it, then ill tell u hes not real and not be able to prove it still. and argue
I dont believe jesus ever existed until someone has real proof he did instead of telling me a book says so, anyway, we are all lookin for the same thing but still dont really have much except science gave me logic and common sense, and religion gave me fairy tales, were all gonna die together why cant we share and enjoy the life here and now, not after were dead, share ideas and be happy, if u give science a chance, we just might give religion a chance and take the best of both, drop the worst:)
@robbin420z Jesus is just as real as Julius Ceasar. There are many non-Biblical references to him, such as the historical writings of the Roman historian Tacitus. Many cities were mentioned nowhere else but the Bible and were only verified when they were found during archeological digs. Science and history prove the events and the people of the Bible are true. The logic of the theology is what made me decide to have faith.
nobody knows whether a god exists or not. you don't know if god exists or not, neither did that guy who gave you the bible. the truth is everyone is an agnostic at heart. they don't know, and they'll never know. it's all a matter of faith. atheism requires faith. atheist have argued with me that they don't need faith, but you still do. it's a leap of faith. to believe or not to believe. not to know.
I want to thank Penn (sincerely) for giving us Christians a kick in the ass to go and spread God's word. Some times we need to be humbled, even by an atheist. My church used this video in one of their teachings. Penn is right, how much do you have to hate someone to keep God to yourself. Penn, I hope you get to know more about God and change your mind. It's awesome to see that God will use all sorts of people to reveal himself.
@ffjsb woa k hang on there, people of religious faith like you stir up the trouble. I think you selfishly focused only on the parts that matter to u and your people, he also said he "knows" theres no god, which is what i leaned towards but cant prove so i dont care, thats your thing just keep it to yourself because when you people get loud, the athiests have to get loud to balance the world, please just keep it inside the church cuz u "believe" gods real, u dont "know" he is until u die
@robbin420z Did you not listen to a thing Penn said??? If God is real, and you wait until you're dead to find that out, it's too late. How are we "stirring up trouble"?
@ffjsb i think i could ask you the same thing, "did u not listen to what penn said?" try to listen to the entire msg and not just what u want, because if we were all like you spreading the word of atheism, we would be stirring up trouble for u, would this be good? and like i said i "believe" god is not real, but thats my thing and ill die with it, if im too late then atleast i had fun here :) i choose this, im HAPPY with this, we should be happy for each other
@ffjsb again with the blind faith thing, as if you know for sure the minute i die im going to hell for eternity for trying to share our ideas and beliefs when your cutting off science completely, what is your problem man i believe good ppl are good ppl with or without religion, you seem to think that everyone thats not like you must goto hell. bad christians use the old obvious question and answer trick, "90 yrs happy? or forever happy? which one?" U've just GOT TO BE KIDDING ME YOUR SMARTER!!!
@robbin420z It is not "everyone not like me", it's people who have not accepted Christ as their saviour. I have not cut off science at all. It is BECAUSE of science (and history) that I believe. And it's not "Blind faith". It's faith based logic and a sound theology. You're not going to hell because of sharing your ideas, it's because you've rejected God. Not my decision, it's God's. I'm not judging you or saying you're a bad person, just letting you know what God has said.
@ffjsb well looks like im going to hell cuz "god" said so and used your vessel to send me the msg, and everyone else that rejected god and accepted buddah is going to hell, all the ppl that rejected god but are good intelligent ppl are going to hell, steven hawking and the rest are going to hell, do u seriously think trying to scare hell into me is going to make me blindly convert, id rather goto hell if my family and all the smartest ppl are gonna be there thanks ;)
@robbin420z No one's trying to "scare" you. And I wouldn't expect you to "blindly" accept what the Bible says. I didn't, and I don't thing anyone else should. As for you're statement about preferring hell, that's kinda like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Why would you think hell would be a good place to be, suffering for eternity, just because your family and some scientist was there?
@ffjsb what do u mean "just cuz my family". of cource i wanna be where my family is no matter where they go, so if u had a son that was an athiest u would let him goto hell and still prefer heaven while hes down there. it doesnt take god to love and care for my family, u christians sound more cruel and disgusting everytime u speak, but i accept that, you ppl are just selfish and ignorant and want to have a reason to talk condescending to educated ppl, as long as ur happy that way, im happy for u
@robbin420z You would want to go to hell for eternity just because your family is there???? Do you suppose you'll be having family picnics or something?? I don't think you quite get the concept. As Penn says, if we really hated people like you, we'd never tell you about getting to heaven. We don't want people to have to face that fate, and we think people can have better, happier lives WITH GOD, than without. I don't have control over who goes where, except for myself.
@ffjsb yes u are absolutely right about having no control, u have no control at all, u dont even know if heaven or hell is real, its heaven or hell, its black and white, its up or down, its left or right, all made up from the human mind my friend, the human mind is easily susceptible to hallucination when fear of death.
The problem with the whole things is that if you can see that there is no truck and believe that there is no truck, then you start getting sick of people tackling you to the ground for no apparent reason. I like the truck metaphor, it's nice.
@teamorangeapple There is a certain inevitability, an end to this thing we call life. By faith, through revelation, we do our best to expose truth. I certainly hope that I am wrong for your sake and the sake of so many others, that this after-life, assuming there is one, will be met by a Creator that lets everyone go to heaven and be with Him and there's violins and fairies dancing about... but if a God exists that seems unlikely. Jesus can be debated with a high level of certainty.
@bradbunger I can even produce well established documents, validating His claims. Ultimately, it is your choice and I will leave you to that choice. I'll answer any questions you have for me, but I'll pray even more than anything.
i believe in god and i dont argue about it and i dont even speak of it... you cannot argue about religion or politics, because you can drone on about it, but if the opposing party disagrees with you, you simply cannot win
This video shows a person who actually cared and lived what is taught in the Gospel, which is to live it and let others experience what is in it. Sure, no conversion took place, but I believe he saw the goodness of the man who gave the bible. Penn was given an option -- he was not forced / judged.
I was raised as a christian and I think the people who tried to teach me about the bible were wrong, this is harmful because we have people who don't understand themselves trying to lead others, it's blind leading the blind and we all fall off the cliff together, you go ahead okay.
@naytyn I dont have any recollection of my birth, so I cant say definitively. I suppose its just as likely as not. Is prayer a requirement to believing in God? I know a lot of people who believe in God but so far as I know never pray
@JakeObnial Yes, absolutely its possible that some believe in God for the sake of being a member of a religion. But as nice as it may be to attend church, it wont win favor to get someone to heaven.
@humbledberean Of course, being in the religion is not an assurance. But supposing you believe in Jesus, you will follow His way of life with an open heart. Religion is not merely an institution but also a way of life -- and prayer/meditation is one of its components to keep in touch in the "peace" within oneself and with the God they believe in.
@JakeObnial Christianity is not merely religion, it is a relationship with God. There is no "peace" within oneself without conversion of the heart by repentence and trust in Jesus. Anything else is a false peace based on a feeling or emotion
@humbledberean If you will study theology, peace or salvation is not solely for members of the church. You also have to take into account people who may have not heard of God in their lifetime yet the grace of God may work through them. A person may unknowingly live the Gospel as well. So we can't really say if the peace that others have is merely a feeling or something genuine.
@JakeObnial The Word of God is all I need. I dont need a professor teaching me theology. I have no idea what you are talking about when you say "explain scripture rather than use jargons". The scripture speaks for itself.
@humbledberean I admire your passion :) But there are 2 things I take into consideration: 1) I shouldn't claim that I can interpret the bible correctly on my own. If I base solely on my intuition, I may be prone to errors. 2) For me to be able to explain scripture, I need a thorough knowledge of the technicalities in how it was written, the language we have to consider, the history behind it and the culture of the people who wrote it. Then, I apply those in my life.
@CyclonexxxIce I beg to disagree. You know why? Both religion and atheism is a belief system. The religious believe in God, atheists choose to not believe in God. Both are perspectives -- and each one is born without any perspective or any will. We're just born with instinct at first, then all others come in time.
@JakeObnial Everyone is born with knowledge of God Romans 1:19-20 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse-Romans 2:15Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness
@humbledberean There are types of conscience as well. But basically, what I am pointing out is, though it is true that we are born inherent of God's morality, how it will be shaped will come from the one who raised us and from the environment we live in. For that reason, Gods morality in Gospel need to be proclaimed to those who have not heard it. There's no need if we all knew. A friendly reminder, supposing I am atheist, it's better if you explained the scripture rather than use jargons.
Without even knowing it, Penn was just used by God to touch the hearts of many christians to tell others about the love of Jesus! I really hope he one day gives his life to God! Penn, i'll keep you in my prayers!
this was awesome! many of my fellow christians are blind and don't realize that judging other's is the most loving and christian thing you could possibly do!
What an excellent example of affording credit to another person for their respectful and sincere approach, despite such a deep disagreement. I dont think anyone could value his fair-mindedness more than us Jehovah's Witnesses. He is saying if you think other peoples lives are involved, then you ought to expend real effort in spreading that message. We could not agree more. This is why our young people, our old people, all our people, feel a moral responsibility to proselytize. Thank you Teller.
Penn was probably the first truly vocal atheist I had ever seen in a celebrity position, and he gave me the courage to finally admit my doubt and begin my long search of answers and knowledge. Six months later, I became an open atheist. I've never been happier or confident in my entire life, and it all started with this man. I've been a happy atheist for over 2 years now, and Penn is in my top 5 list of people who's hands I want to shake before I die. Thank you.
If more Christians would stand up and show the love of Christ to those who hate us... Its the heart of Christianity... Just watch the End of the Spear... that is what Christians are to do.
a good man gave me a bible. He was a GOOD man. The End
but instead we go through 5 minutes. Okay, I guess so. My fault for watching this in the first place I suppose. I love how he says he knows there is no God. Yup, that makes no sense. Just my opinion, I am not looking for a reply. Thanks :D
The fact that a man is nice and there is or is not a "God" is a complete non-sequitur. No one knows what "God" is, or represents beyond what a child holds as a sky-man. Adults do not know what they are talking about when they utter the word "God." It's that simple.
Wow..How did you miss this one? This wasn't just one very nice guy. This is one guy following his heart to be used by God. A God who now is using you for his purposes. You see, there is a wake-up call a lot of luke-warm Christians need to hear. And you just said it as good as anybody. I'm sure through you-tube and what ever else media outlet, you will have reminded us how important it is to show people the truck coming hundreds of thousands of times. Thank you Penn
I agree that "religion" which tells you how to live, condemns others when Jesus Himself condemned no one, and which lays guilt trips in order to control you, is a bad thing. But Jesus is not a bad thing. Look only to Him!
Penn ..you are closer to the kingdom of God than you know. Remember these words and think on them every day just in case you die and find yourself on the wrong side of eternity: "Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved". If you find yourself in a terrible place, call out to Jesus. Say "Jesus, save me!" and He will. On UTube, search TO HELL AND BACK, RAWLINGS. Pay special attention to Howard Storm as he called out to Jesus and notice what happened. I love you and this video.
@qbulb ..btw, I would not wait until I died to learn of God if I were you. What if you don't remember to call on the Lord? Anyone who calls on the Lord can find Him IN THIS LIFETIME. Ask Him to show you and He will in one way or another. God changes you subtly when you read the Bible even if it is just 10 minutes per day. You don't even notice until later when you look back. Thanks again for your video. I hope you will read the Bible, especially the New Testament. God bless you.
@JiveTwankle ...I hope one day you will love me and be in heaven with me. It will be great fun. You cannot imagine how great heaven will be, neither can I to tell you the truth because I haven't been there yet. God loves you. Ask Him. God bless you. How much would I have to hate you not to give you the good news. I am praying that you will become a Christian soon. Love and Hugs from qbulb
@qbulb I do not recall typing that comment and I don't think i've ever used a winky face in all my years of typing. Somebody must've commented on you from my account. My apologies, I do not hate you.
That's actually a great gift. About 10 yrs ago my ex's dad gave me a bible as a christmas present. I guess he was hoping it'd turn me into Charley Church or something IDK... But instead it reinforced the disbelief I had held onto since childhood. I'm sorry but even as a child I couldn't get myself to do buy into such nonsense. I prefer the "real truth" even if that means I lose the warm and fuzzy delusion of being reunited with loved ones in some paradise when I die.
The BIBLE is the MARK of the BEAST! Constantine (1st beast) legalized Christianity and had 50 bibles compiled. King James, homo (2nd beast) 666 # of a man, born 1566, 6th of Scotland, authorized 66 book bible, image of God's word, carried in your hand, memorized in your head, made to speak (the bible says) and is used as an object of worship. Your faith will fail.
The Christian trolls appear to be looming here...keep an eye on those fundamental christians - the ones that believe a) the bible is the (literal) word of god b) the bible is the inerrant will of god. They love the bible but most of'em have never read it.
They don't realize The Good Book is pro-slavery, pro-genocide, pro-child sacrifice...and they've never really contemplated The Offer that's been put on the table. Scape-goating sins away through child sacrifice, an offensive proposition!!!
OK, If God is allknowing there`s no way he cant know already if you will go to heaven or hell. In fact he would have known this from the dawn of time. As an alknowing being he knows everything your going to do millions of years before you do it.Therefore nothing you do can alter that because God would already know if you were going to try. So he knows and that`s that. To assume you can change what God Knows is insane. So keep on sinning cos your fucked anyway.
Love that man who gave Penn the bible! He did what God asks him to do - plant the seed and GOD will add the increase! We ALL need to be planting those seeds as the time grows shorter on this earth. I pray that Penn with accept Christ's redemption but if he doesn't that is his choice. God gave him the freedom to accept or reject! One day every knee with bow before our King!
Thank God! Common sense.............people offering you blessings are doing just that...........no matter what your faith...............good will towards man is the only way.
@FloridaSalon At first I was really confused by this, but then realized you got trolled by my girlfriend....and by the way I would totally fuck your friends up.
@JiveTwankle I think God is busy you piece of shit....but come on by the shop anyways.....we'll see if a couple of my friends can help you out with your problems.
i'm an agnostic and i've seen this video before, i just kinda wanted to say that i used to really hate it when people tried to push religion on me, but this really changed the way i look at it and it's nice to see a prominent atheist that isnt confrontational about religion, atheists that hate christians are just as bad as christians that hate atheists it all comes down to someone just believing something different then you
@ant1p0p There are so many angry atheists and agnostics out there, that it's nice when you find someone who isn't. I'm glad you aren't, and I know there are many others like you. Thanks for being cool.
I don't hate atheists or agnostics. I actually know really cool people who are atheists. God bless
While i agree in principle with the truck metaphor. I disagree in practice. I don't think there are many people in North America/Europe unfamiliar with the bible, at the very least the concept of heaven and hell.
But trying to come up with good reasons to believe in god, that would be useful.
As for my personal beliefs: People are going to believe what they want to believe. Plain and simple. You can show them the other side, but it ultimately comes down to what makes them comfortable.
Christians: Be polite, sincere, concerned. Nothing turns someone off like a pushy, self righteous know-it-all.
Atheists: Realize that some Christians are sincerely concerned about your afterlife, even if you don't believe in it. Respect that, don't be rude about it.
man your wrong. there is "GOD" he is real. i really think you should contact him and talk to him and become christian. but if you dont its fine.. im a christian. and i'm 13 years old... man if you dont believe in god your going to hell. im just letting you know this because i dont want people to go to hell.. im trying to help people.. im 13 and i go around telling people about jesus and god with people from my church.. and man just please try calling him and talking to him... good luck dude.
I noticed towards the end where he said that he "knew there was not a god." So I ask this, how does he know there s no God? The answer is simple, he cannot know there is no God, but he does not believe there is a God. No one knows if God exists or not, but thats why as Christians we have faith that God does exist just like atheists have faith that God doesn't exist.

@Sonofliberty777 He is what would be called a ' Gnostic Atheist', Someone who claims to know there is/are no god(s). The sort of atheism you are describing is known as 'Agnostic Atheism'; which would be a person who does not believe in god, but claims not to know for certain. Regardless of the standard for knowledge, it is the claim of that knowledge which would distinguish between the two.
One could also be an Agnostic theist or a gnostic theist.,
I think thats its awesome that Penn can come and tell people what his views are and see that people that really care about someone are tryin in their eyes to save you. I am also an atheist but totally agree that religion doesnt matter and beleave that very good people can come from any religion.
I just want to let all the churches that play this video know that Penn does not speak for all atheists. He only speaks for himself. This is pure rubbish and only encourages the delusion of an afterlife.
Merely professing adherents don't witness to their faith, because they don't believe. Simple.
More deeply, if you google J. Riley, S. Best and B.G. Charlton of the University of Newcastle you'll find a study they have out called, "Religious believers and strong atheists may both be less depressed than existentially-uncertain people."
Which is why I believe Penn felt a strong commonality with the man who gave him the Bible. And why atheists often have close Christian friends.
I respect people who believe in God because they are thankful that he gave us life. What I don't like are those people who seem to be worshipping 'A book', and only believe in God because they think that will get them into heaven. They are believing in him because they want something out of him. That is not true worship.
I'm not religious because too many church-goers only attend because they want something from him. There are also too many that worship the book and not him.
"I'm not religious because too many church-goers only attend because they want something from him. There are also too many that worship the book and not him."
i agree completely, i believe in Jesus and God as who they say they are, and i believe the religion part of christianity is of satan himself because if u look at the religion part of christianity you see people trying to get to God by themselves and that is not possible oh and to get something from God, you have 2 obey his word.
@17DEMONHUNTER Relationship, not religion. I understand what you mean about "worshiping the book", because the Word says not to worship false gods. However, the Word also says, "The Word was with God and the Word was God." I'm not saying to worship the Bible as a god, but worship it as it is God.
yes, that is very true lol, the book itself shouldnt be worshiped because its not God, but it IS God's word, so by reading it, in a sense, you are Worshiping God, anything you do that uplifts God in any way shape or form, it is worship, but if you start adding or subtracting from the bible so it fits your views, it is no longer the word of God, so therefore you are now worshiping the bible, did that make sense? lol
well yay lol, i made sense haha, i just wish there were more atheists and agnostics like penn on youtube, i know there are, but it doesnt seem like on youtube
@17DEMONHUNTER agreed. Most of them are angry at Christians, and tell us how stupid we are. I wish they could just respect what we believe, but alas, they do not.
that is true, but its not just them, i look on videos, and im just shocked at the "christians" who cuss them out and are sometimes worse than the atheists, it saddens me to see that, i mean, how do you expect to win them over if you are just as bad as they are? but there are nice christians and atheists all over the world, its just most of them dont seem to use youtube lol
I thought it was interesting how Penn said the man who gave him the Bible was "a good man." Without God, how do you define good? As CS Lewis (also an athiest in his former life) said in Mere Christianity, all societies have things they deem good or bad, but surprisingly the things called good match the things commanded by the God of the Bible. Societies are programmed with a definition of good or bad based on the laws of the God of the Bible. Who could do this but the God who made them?
I thought it was interesting that he said "this was a good man." As CS Lewis said in Mere Christianity, without God, how can you define "good"? As humans, our whole thinking patterns are designed to align with the God of the Bible. We do not think it good to hurt others. Without ever being taught, all societies define "good" as things that God commands in scripture. Surely this is the best proof that the God of the Bible is real, and that the Bible is His word.
I was never raised with the concept of the Bible, nor do I read it for inspiration or guidance. I learned, however, during my youth, that causing pain hurts others, and doing things that are wrong hurts people, be it theft or assault or lying. I read the Bible last year (I am 24) and found it to be full of inaccuracies, impossibilities and bad morals. I am capable of knowing what is right and what is wrong WITHOUT God and his/her/it's rules because I pay attention to the people I meet.
@houdin654jeff I guess I will just try to explain that the bible should not always be taken literally as it WILL definitely look wrong. It may also be an issue of semantics, specially in its translation from Aramaic, to Greek, then Latin. So certain words in it may mean something different when translated to English. Knowing what is right/wrong is arbitrary and it doesn't depend on the people you meet, it may be determined by your environment. Not necessarily you.
@JakeObnial Ah, but therein lies the rub. What parts do you take literally and what do you take as dogmatic law? Are gays abominations, did Noah build an impossibly large boat, was Christ really born of a woman who knew no man's touch, are disobedient or drunken children to be stoned to death, do we suffer witches to live? If it's the inspired word of God, surely it needs no copy editing. If it's not, it's a human creation that is fallible and must therefore be taken with a grain/pillar of salt.
@houdin654jeff You hit the nail on the head. Thats why people who think like JakeObnial cant properly take or define a position. The bible should be taken literally within the context of the writing just like you would any other book. God is not the author of confusion. To answer your questions - 1. depends on the dispensation 2 yes 3 yes but it wasnt impossibly large because he did build it 4yes 5 no 6 they need to repent of their sin and believe on Jesus
@humbledberean 1. Fine, 2. I disagree, please explain a reason why aside from "it is written," and really, who's business is it who people decide to fuck? 3. Prove it, there is only so large an entirely wooden boat can be constructed before the amount of cross beams needed will make it sink. No one's built a replica without using steel to reinforce it, 4. Again, need proof, 5. Deuteronomy 21:18, and 6. That one was more a joke, we haven't had a witch burnin' in quite a few years.
@houdin654jeff Good question :) Pinpointing the location of literal and symbolic interpretation is tedious. Noah's ark for example, was written in the form of Midrash literature (form of writing that time), hence the similarity to the epic of Gilgamesh. Though, a boat was supposedly seen in Mt. Ararat. Gays are not abominations as people, but sexual acts done in an unnatural way is. What was changed or "edited" were not the teachings but the CULTURE and SITUATION of the people in the OT and NT.
@JakeObnial Unnatural sex acts? You mean any sex involving condoms, birth control pills, beds and couches (very unnatural things), as well as kinky handcuffs, costumes, leather, whips, etc? THESE must also be abominations as well. Where's the group trying to stop the sale of mattresses? Even if you want to delude yourself that such a boat could be built, there is no way you could collect, store, feed, care for and re-release into the proper environment EVERY animal on this Earth with one family.
@houdin654jeff Unnatural meaning using the genitals in a way it's function is not meant for: anal, fellatio, etc. Add on whatever "technique" you can fit in that description. The same goes with contraception since, obviously, it's only the sex that attracts the individuals and not really intending to form a family. Dude, like I said, "Noah's ark" came from Midrash literature meaning it should NOT ALWAYS to be taken literally.. -_-
@JakeObnial All right, so that's not a literal story, but then how do you expect me to take any of the rest of the book as though it's literal? Jews in Egypt? A virgin birth? The dead rising? The heartwarming story of Job? And how can I know which rules are to be followed to the letter and which ones get a pass? I'd rather trust my own morality which doesn't accuse gay people who are in loving relationships of committing abominable behavior. As I've asked before, who cares what a person does...
@houdin654jeff well, much of the old testament was written in Midrash literature as that time necessitates since they mingled with Babylonians, etc. What's so hard to believe about Jews in Egypt? it's pretty easy to know which "rules" to follow. It's the 10 commandments. It still stands strong even in the New Testament. Who cares what a person does? that's a statement of apathy. If that's the case then laws should not have been created in society to regulate the acts of people, yeah?
@JakeObnial What's hard about Jews in Egypt? There is not a shred of real evidence (aside from Exodus) that shows that it took place. As for the 10 commandments, I think about half of them are useless or impossible. I agree laws are necessary, but laws about what to consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes? I don't care what you do in your bedroom as long as you don't molest people or animals. It's literally none of my business and certainly not our government or church's business.
@houdin654jeff Commandments: 1. I am the lord thy God (nope, sorry), Thou shalt have no strange gods before me (Again, no, there are too many in the world), 2. Thou shalt make no strange idols nor graven images (I idolize Han Solo), 3. Thou shalt keep holy the sabbath (Either every day is special or none are), 4. Honor thy father & mother (Only if they've earned it), 5. Though shalt not kill (good), 6. Adultery (fine) 7. Steal (another good one), 8. Lie (fantastic) 9 & 10. Covet (thought crime)
@houdin654jeff Jews in Egypt not a shred of real evidence? they're all over the place because of all the wars. I even read a paper giving explanation on the 10 plagues that took place. You "don't care what people do in the bedroom as long as they don't molest people or animals" is contradictory. If they want to be bestial, why not let them since we should mind our own business, right? 10 commandments is basically about purity of thought and action -- I don't see why it's useless to anyone.
@JakeObnial I mean there is no record of Jewish slaves in Egypt, no artifacts, no evidence of them wandering in the desert, none. An animal or a child is not capable of being a consenting adult, a two gay people are. The first bit of the 10 is about exclusivity to one God and making no graven images. Then it goes to utter respect for parents (I'd rather base it on actions) and ends with "Don't even THINK bad thoughts," which is impossible to police. Don't kill, steal, adulter, lie, all good.
@houdin654jeff Look for Merneptah Stele or type in Google scholar about Israel being in Egypt :) For your other point, that does not change the fact that, as you said, people are better off minding their business. Prohibiting bestiality or pedophilia IS implemented in religions, why agree with it when you dislike it? Your "don't even think bad thoughts" statement bases on the premise that we can't control our thoughts. The point is we're imperfect but that doesn't mean we can't make choices.
@houdin654jeff ..what artifacts you want or other evidence when they were on the move and all they had was what they could carry... :). And there is record of jews in Egyot
with another person sexually? Why is this any business of mine or yours? If it's so terrible, surely God will punish the gays, condom users and blow jobbers, so let them be. You're saying any human who has had sex that didn't produce a child committed an unnatural act and (at least according to Leviticus) ought to be stoned to death? How does that kind of philosophy come to be in this world? Sex is a wonderful learning experience, you really want people to learn exclusively by having children?
YHVH is never referred to by a word that is pronounced "God" (Gawd) in the Hebrew text. Read ISAIAH 65:11 , the Canaanite idol "Troop" [ King James Bible], which name "Gawd" , is pronounced "God" ,is the Deity ,being worship ,all over the world . Whoever calls o pond the title of "GOD" ,is unknowingly being mislead into worshiping The Adversary .
You claim that god teaches love, correct? If that's so, and you claim that you all abide by his wishes, why are there SO MANY of you that think NOTHING of hurting, torturing or even KILLING someone, just beause they're different from you? I DARE say there is NO love whatsoever in that act or attitude!! That your god condones such acts proves to me that that is NOT someone I EVER care to follow!! I once had your types try to set me on FIRE because they didn't like the clothes I was wearing!!
@RedVynil i completely agree with you and forgive me if i am wrong or offensive in this assumption but by what you have said i will assume you are gay and if that is the case you should be proud and proclaim it to everyone nobody has the right to say that is wrong OR to try to set you on fire because of the clothes you wear or the way by which you live your life whether you be gay or not again i apologize if i have been offensive
@vikeyev1 Hi, and thanks LOADS for your support!!!! The world would be a MUCH better place if everyone thought that way! No offense taken, but I'm not at all gay. It's just that, over the years, I got to the point where I simply couldn't play the drums the way I do while wearing pants. They became WAY too confining and I couldn't play double bass drums the way I wanted to in them. I tried shorts and they were too confining, too! See part 2.
@vikeyev1 part 2 One day, I found a little black skooter (or is it skater) skirt and decided to try that. It worked PERFECTLY for me!! The tights/pantyhose were to keep the sweat from my legs from getting on my arms, because I'd rest my arms on my legs at certain points and the sweat, via centrifugal force, would run towards my hands and eventually make it nearly impossible to hold the sticks, especially when it'd also cause massive blisters! See part 3
@vikeyev1 part 3 Then when they'd break, it'd make the sticks twice as hard to hold. The leotard serves the same function as the tights, but it keeps the sweat from my chest from getting on my arms. It's also a major pain in the ass to drum in a t-shirt because, once I get sweaty, my shirt keeps rolling up between my arm & chest and it's VERY annoying to have to keep undoing that every few seconds. As the leo is skin tight, no rolling up! It's all part of the science being Red Vynil.
Hmm, a real eye opener for me. I think I might watch this again now. Not because I'm Christian but because he is able to speak truth from either side of the coin. Most people refuse to put themselves on the flip-side in order to gain that different perspective for learning, understanding and reference. This man has confidence and is not afraid of truth. If God chose to reveal Himself to this man, I can say with confidence, he would not be afraid of the truth.
What would you give to know your creator... What would you give to find someone who loves you more then for what you do for what you say what you have or what you may even look like... This man is real... This Man is Jesus... Read the book at least once ask God.. If there is a God with an openness, curiousity, to show him self to you in real way while reading this book... You might be suprised..
how did you go about it? did you read the whole thing, or just flip it open read a chapter and stop? and what kind of attitude did you have when you began? you need to come to God with an open heart he can stand at the door and knock all he wants but the beauty of it is he gives you the free will to say no there comes a time when YOU have to open the door and let him in instead of sitting around and complaining that God wont just kick down your front door and say here i am now worship and belive
i have to say that "the single greatest cause of atheisim today is christians who confess Christ with their mouths and deny him with their actions this is something that an unbeliving world simply finds unbeliveable" (dc talk)
@amrose1000 What would I give to know my creator? I know both of them, my mother and father. I respect my mother deeply because she does love me no matter what mistakes I've made. I detest my father because he only cares about himself and tries to manipulate the rest of the world for his own purposes. Jesus is not the creator, he is the son of the creator. And having read the Bible, it terrifies me that it is the worlds most read book, or at least the most printed.
I believe this man showed great strength by portraying a balance of boldness to address both Penn and this notion of atheism, as well as pacifism depicted through his lack of defensiveness and genuine kindness. As Penn said, because he was such a very very good man, it was ok to have this depth of disagreement. If the whole church were to adopt this concept of balancing boldness with pacifism, I believe mutual respect and effectiveness would override disagreements in issues they addressed.
So is it alright to give someone a Bible if you don't know if they're an atheist? Would you be ok with someone giving you their book? If an atheist gave you a copy of God Delusion (or something similar) would you mind?
thats because it's very offensive to them. They hold on to their beleifs so that they aren't scared of death. (And thats a very nasty fear.) Plus us atheist make up only a small portion.
I wouldn't mind at all. I am southern baptist and wouln't change my beliefs but someone giving me a book wouldn't offend me at all. I dont see the harm of possibly making a new friend regardless of beliefs
To those who do not believe our God: We have nothing to gain by telling you the truth. God won't love us more (because we can't earn His love and He loves us infinitely already anyway), we don't get money, we don't become popular. Quite the contrary, actually. We risk being humiliated, ostracized and even prosecuted by proselytizing.
Why would we risk all that for a lie? Because you are worth something to us and you deserve to know the truth.
"We risk being humiliated, ostracized and even prosecuted..."
Don't be so melodramatic. When were you ever at risk of being arrested for preaching? You risk nothing but being embarrassed by your own words, and if that doesn't bother you, then what are you complaining about?
On the other hand, I could see Christians wanting to get recognition, affirmation of their beliefs, support from other Christians, etc. You have plenty to gain.
Amen. Well put. We do not have anything to gain. The power of God's love is what drives us to want to save others. Everyone deserves the opportunity of eternal life. God bless!
while I believe your comment is overall true, there is a snippet of something wrong with it---we do gain something by being rejected, and Jesus Himself said it in Luke 6:22-23
@nevturien You worded the last thing wrong, saying that you risk all that for a lie, and you explained why you risk all that for a lie, meaning you think your faith is a lie. Just thought I'd point that out. I know its nit-picking but eh I'm a nit-picker sometimes =P
eh, it depends on how you look at it, but he worded it as a question, kinda like saying, if we believe or know our religion is a lie, why would we go and get ourselves humiliated? i think that is what he is trying to say lol
@nevturien "We have nothing to gain by telling you the truth" <<< Same thing goes for religion. "because we can't earn His love and He loves us infinitely already anyway" <<< This is not true. You have to find your soul before attempting to understand this. "we don't get money, we don't become popular" <<< Do you have any idea how worthless that is? "Why would we risk all that for a lie?" <<< Risk what? I profoundly believe and I'm not humiliated or prosecuted.
Penn athiest explain exactly why I witness .He does this better then anyone I know.Even know he a athiest he respects those that witness. :)
danephillips 2 days ago

We may not agree on theology, but we can give each other respect.

please dont stone us to death for trying to marry someone of another religion, please dont banish all the homosexuals to hell for being happy, were all brothers and sisters (from africa actually), so lets build a bridge ;)
robbin420z 2 weeks ago
when you say "ummm.. actually he was real and i know this" then what if i said "umm.. he never exsisted and i know this" i would be just as ignorant as u, i cant say for sure he did not exsist, i would rather say i dont know because it keeps me asking questions and learning, some of us are smart enough to know how ignorant we are, some of us are just plain ignorant, and ya im glad were takin god outa schools, now we can move forward and not back to the golden ages
robbin420z 2 weeks ago
@robbin420z Well I'm sorry if I seem ignorant and I wasn't trying to ok, if you don't believe that Historics did say that Jesus was a real person then ok. This isn't worth arguing over. You believe what you believe and I believe what I believe. So lets move on with our lives because I'm not going to turn this into an arguement. And lets build a better future for the world and spread some peace.
Cappythecat3351 2 weeks ago
@Cappythecat3351 yes i already know im allowed to beleive what i want and i dont care what u beleive thats fine and yes u were ignorant when u said "um actually Jesus was a real person" thats where i had to be jerk to even u out, ive got things to back that up but i dont want to get into it as well, it would be awesome if u could watch the words u use and try saying "i beleive there was a jesus" instead of "um actually Jesus was a real person" i like balance, u pushed it, i pushed back
robbin420z 2 weeks ago
OK I'm getting really sick of this arguing!! I believe in Christ and for those of you who don't believe in him then thats ok. Why should we build a wall between us just because somebody believes and somebody doesn't?! For the Christians it was Jesus who said spread the light of the world all around. So I'm going to spread his light. Even those who don't believe, I still love you cause you are my brothers and sisters of the world. So, Let's build bridges and not walls
Cappythecat3351 2 weeks ago
i think your going to go for eternity of happiness but i dont know this for sure i dont want to make an assumption, i dont understand why u feel your individual beliefs need to be preached, i dont understand why your side deserves to be heard when you wont even try to hear both sides, its people like you that upset ppl like me that are here to balance, when you go extreme, ill be there, one day you'll share the world instead of being so blind and selfish
robbin420z 1 month ago
telling me jesus "is real" is kind of lying to yourself, telling me u "believe" hes real is great, awesome, perfect, beautiful. but what if i told you jesus "IS NOT REAL" u would probably feel offended, thats not my intenton, i dont know if hes real or not i just dont "beleive" hes real and were both allowed to beleive what we want, u dont have to make assumptions when u've never met jesus urself, i hope one day you'll listen to everything instead of just what you want to hear, be fair cmon
robbin420z 1 month ago
@robbin420z um actually Jesus was a real person who just spread the word of God. Christians "believe" that he was the savior. Jesus indeed was actually a real person in history who spread Christianity in ancient Rome. So if you believe he was the Messiah or not is actually the real arguement
Cappythecat3351 2 weeks ago
@Cappythecat3351 also I'm not saying this because the Bible said so, it was actually true fact. Its also in History books now and kids are learning this in school now too
Cappythecat3351 2 weeks ago
@Cappythecat3351 lol u talk about biulding a bridge and being sick of the arguing but then there u go again bein as ignorant as the rest of u ppl, "umm... actually... he WAS real" because u actually shook his hand right? because he talks to u in ur sleep right? that makes him real? without one shred of document recorded or bones or anything u will still blindly follow and thats fine just as i will blindly follow the fact he did not exist and his story was stolen from egyptians
robbin420z 2 weeks ago
@robbin420z u ppl? You basically saying that we're completly different then you. We're all the same. I bet there isn't as much difference between us then you think
Cappythecat3351 2 weeks ago
@Cappythecat3351 i used "u ppl" because almost everyone that gets sucked into a religion seems to claim that athiest are baby eating hitlers and that were the lesser being in some stupid way just because u have a label so now ur special. there are horrible ppl on both sides, and i only speak up when one of u spout off about how gods really real, i dont care if u beleive hes real but if u tell me hes real but cant prove it, then ill tell u hes not real and not be able to prove it still. and argue
robbin420z 2 weeks ago
I dont believe jesus ever existed until someone has real proof he did instead of telling me a book says so, anyway, we are all lookin for the same thing but still dont really have much except science gave me logic and common sense, and religion gave me fairy tales, were all gonna die together why cant we share and enjoy the life here and now, not after were dead, share ideas and be happy, if u give science a chance, we just might give religion a chance and take the best of both, drop the worst:)
robbin420z 1 month ago
@robbin420z Jesus is just as real as Julius Ceasar. There are many non-Biblical references to him, such as the historical writings of the Roman historian Tacitus. Many cities were mentioned nowhere else but the Bible and were only verified when they were found during archeological digs. Science and history prove the events and the people of the Bible are true. The logic of the theology is what made me decide to have faith.
ffjsb 1 month ago
nobody knows whether a god exists or not. you don't know if god exists or not, neither did that guy who gave you the bible. the truth is everyone is an agnostic at heart. they don't know, and they'll never know. it's all a matter of faith. atheism requires faith. atheist have argued with me that they don't need faith, but you still do. it's a leap of faith. to believe or not to believe. not to know.

It's awesome to see that God will use all sorts of people to reveal himself.
ffjsb 1 month ago
@ffjsb woa k hang on there, people of religious faith like you stir up the trouble. I think you selfishly focused only on the parts that matter to u and your people, he also said he "knows" theres no god, which is what i leaned towards but cant prove so i dont care, thats your thing just keep it to yourself because when you people get loud, the athiests have to get loud to balance the world, please just keep it inside the church cuz u "believe" gods real, u dont "know" he is until u die
robbin420z 1 month ago
@robbin420z Did you not listen to a thing Penn said??? If God is real, and you wait until you're dead to find that out, it's too late. How are we "stirring up trouble"?
ffjsb 1 month ago
@ffjsb i think i could ask you the same thing, "did u not listen to what penn said?" try to listen to the entire msg and not just what u want, because if we were all like you spreading the word of atheism, we would be stirring up trouble for u, would this be good? and like i said i "believe" god is not real, but thats my thing and ill die with it, if im too late then atleast i had fun here :) i choose this, im HAPPY with this, we should be happy for each other
robbin420z 1 month ago
@robbin420z Hmmm, 60-90 years of happiness vs. an eternity of happiness.... Guess which one I'm going for.
ffjsb 1 month ago
@ffjsb again with the blind faith thing, as if you know for sure the minute i die im going to hell for eternity for trying to share our ideas and beliefs when your cutting off science completely, what is your problem man i believe good ppl are good ppl with or without religion, you seem to think that everyone thats not like you must goto hell. bad christians use the old obvious question and answer trick, "90 yrs happy? or forever happy? which one?" U've just GOT TO BE KIDDING ME YOUR SMARTER!!!
robbin420z 4 weeks ago
@robbin420z It is not "everyone not like me", it's people who have not accepted Christ as their saviour. I have not cut off science at all. It is BECAUSE of science (and history) that I believe. And it's not "Blind faith". It's faith based logic and a sound theology. You're not going to hell because of sharing your ideas, it's because you've rejected God. Not my decision, it's God's. I'm not judging you or saying you're a bad person, just letting you know what God has said.
ffjsb 3 weeks ago
@ffjsb well looks like im going to hell cuz "god" said so and used your vessel to send me the msg, and everyone else that rejected god and accepted buddah is going to hell, all the ppl that rejected god but are good intelligent ppl are going to hell, steven hawking and the rest are going to hell, do u seriously think trying to scare hell into me is going to make me blindly convert, id rather goto hell if my family and all the smartest ppl are gonna be there thanks ;)
robbin420z 2 weeks ago
@robbin420z No one's trying to "scare" you. And I wouldn't expect you to "blindly" accept what the Bible says. I didn't, and I don't thing anyone else should. As for you're statement about preferring hell, that's kinda like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Why would you think hell would be a good place to be, suffering for eternity, just because your family and some scientist was there?
ffjsb 2 weeks ago
@ffjsb what do u mean "just cuz my family". of cource i wanna be where my family is no matter where they go, so if u had a son that was an athiest u would let him goto hell and still prefer heaven while hes down there. it doesnt take god to love and care for my family, u christians sound more cruel and disgusting everytime u speak, but i accept that, you ppl are just selfish and ignorant and want to have a reason to talk condescending to educated ppl, as long as ur happy that way, im happy for u
robbin420z 2 weeks ago
@robbin420z You would want to go to hell for eternity just because your family is there???? Do you suppose you'll be having family picnics or something?? I don't think you quite get the concept. As Penn says, if we really hated people like you, we'd never tell you about getting to heaven. We don't want people to have to face that fate, and we think people can have better, happier lives WITH GOD, than without. I don't have control over who goes where, except for myself.
ffjsb 2 weeks ago
@ffjsb yes u are absolutely right about having no control, u have no control at all, u dont even know if heaven or hell is real, its heaven or hell, its black and white, its up or down, its left or right, all made up from the human mind my friend, the human mind is easily susceptible to hallucination when fear of death.

@teamorangeapple I can tell you the truth in this... if you can still read this, the truck has not reached you yet.

@bradbunger Well, I can but it's kinda hard because I am lying down sideways. Some-one just tackled me to the ground again.
teamorangeapple 2 months ago
@teamorangeapple There is a certain inevitability, an end to this thing we call life. By faith, through revelation, we do our best to expose truth. I certainly hope that I am wrong for your sake and the sake of so many others, that this after-life, assuming there is one, will be met by a Creator that lets everyone go to heaven and be with Him and there's violins and fairies dancing about... but if a God exists that seems unlikely. Jesus can be debated with a high level of certainty.
bradbunger 2 months ago
@bradbunger I can even produce well established documents, validating His claims. Ultimately, it is your choice and I will leave you to that choice. I'll answer any questions you have for me, but I'll pray even more than anything.

This video shows a person who actually cared and lived what is taught in the Gospel, which is to live it and let others experience what is in it. Sure, no conversion took place, but I believe he saw the goodness of the man who gave the bible. Penn was given an option -- he was not forced / judged.

@naytyn I dont have any recollection of my birth, so I cant say definitively. I suppose its just as likely as not. Is prayer a requirement to believing in God? I know a lot of people who believe in God but so far as I know never pray
humbledberean 4 months ago
@humbledberean is it possible that they "believe" in God solely for the sake of being a member of a religion?
JakeObnial 3 months ago
@JakeObnial Yes, absolutely its possible that some believe in God for the sake of being a member of a religion. But as nice as it may be to attend church, it wont win favor to get someone to heaven.
humbledberean 3 months ago
@humbledberean Of course, being in the religion is not an assurance. But supposing you believe in Jesus, you will follow His way of life with an open heart. Religion is not merely an institution but also a way of life -- and prayer/meditation is one of its components to keep in touch in the "peace" within oneself and with the God they believe in.
JakeObnial 3 months ago
@JakeObnial Christianity is not merely religion, it is a relationship with God. There is no "peace" within oneself without conversion of the heart by repentence and trust in Jesus. Anything else is a false peace based on a feeling or emotion
humbledberean 3 months ago
@humbledberean If you will study theology, peace or salvation is not solely for members of the church. You also have to take into account people who may have not heard of God in their lifetime yet the grace of God may work through them. A person may unknowingly live the Gospel as well. So we can't really say if the peace that others have is merely a feeling or something genuine.
JakeObnial 3 months ago

JakeObnial 3 months ago
@CyclonexxxIce I beg to disagree. You know why? Both religion and atheism is a belief system. The religious believe in God, atheists choose to not believe in God. Both are perspectives -- and each one is born without any perspective or any will. We're just born with instinct at first, then all others come in time.
JakeObnial 3 months ago
@JakeObnial Everyone is born with knowledge of God Romans 1:19-20 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse-Romans 2:15Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness
humbledberean 3 months ago
@humbledberean There are types of conscience as well. But basically, what I am pointing out is, though it is true that we are born inherent of God's morality, how it will be shaped will come from the one who raised us and from the environment we live in. For that reason, Gods morality in Gospel need to be proclaimed to those who have not heard it. There's no need if we all knew. A friendly reminder, supposing I am atheist, it's better if you explained the scripture rather than use jargons.

Thank you.

The fact that a man is nice and there is or is not a "God" is a complete non-sequitur. No one knows what "God" is, or represents beyond what a child holds as a sky-man. Adults do not know what they are talking about when they utter the word "God." It's that simple.

Dear Penn

Not strictly true, people can believe things that they don't want to believe or disbelieve things they want to believe.
There are many atheists who make the statement, 'I want to believe you, but you haven't shown me any proof'.

Christians: Be polite, sincere, concerned. Nothing turns someone off like a pushy, self righteous know-it-all.
Atheists: Realize that some Christians are sincerely concerned about your afterlife, even if you don't believe in it. Respect that, don't be rude about it.
This was really nice to hear.

17DEMONHUNTER 1 year ago
@17DEMONHUNTER Relationship, not religion. I understand what you mean about "worshiping the book", because the Word says not to worship false gods. However, the Word also says, "The Word was with God and the Word was God." I'm not saying to worship the Bible as a god, but worship it as it is God.
Shirtlessleeves 1 year ago
@Shirtlessleeves
yes, that is very true lol, the book itself shouldnt be worshiped because its not God, but it IS God's word, so by reading it, in a sense, you are Worshiping God, anything you do that uplifts God in any way shape or form, it is worship, but if you start adding or subtracting from the bible so it fits your views, it is no longer the word of God, so therefore you are now worshiping the bible, did that make sense? lol

Dtekoah 1 year ago 2
I thought it was interesting that he said "this was a good man." As CS Lewis said in Mere Christianity, without God, how can you define "good"? As humans, our whole thinking patterns are designed to align with the God of the Bible. We do not think it good to hurt others. Without ever being taught, all societies define "good" as things that God commands in scripture. Surely this is the best proof that the God of the Bible is real, and that the Bible is His word.
Dtekoah 1 year ago
@Dtekoah
I am capable of knowing what is right and what is wrong WITHOUT God and his/her/it's rules because I pay attention to the people I meet.
houdin654jeff 1 year ago 6
@houdin654jeff I guess I will just try to explain that the bible should not always be taken literally as it WILL definitely look wrong. It may also be an issue of semantics, specially in its translation from Aramaic, to Greek, then Latin. So certain words in it may mean something different when translated to English. Knowing what is right/wrong is arbitrary and it doesn't depend on the people you meet, it may be determined by your environment. Not necessarily you.
JakeObnial 3 months ago
@JakeObnial Ah, but therein lies the rub. What parts do you take literally and what do you take as dogmatic law? Are gays abominations, did Noah build an impossibly large boat, was Christ really born of a woman who knew no man's touch, are disobedient or drunken children to be stoned to death, do we suffer witches to live? If it's the inspired word of God, surely it needs no copy editing. If it's not, it's a human creation that is fallible and must therefore be taken with a grain/pillar of salt.
houdin654jeff 3 months ago
@houdin654jeff You hit the nail on the head. Thats why people who think like JakeObnial cant properly take or define a position. The bible should be taken literally within the context of the writing just like you would any other book. God is not the author of confusion. To answer your questions - 1. depends on the dispensation 2 yes 3 yes but it wasnt impossibly large because he did build it 4yes 5 no 6 they need to repent of their sin and believe on Jesus
humbledberean 3 months ago
@humbledberean 1. Fine, 2. I disagree, please explain a reason why aside from "it is written," and really, who's business is it who people decide to fuck? 3. Prove it, there is only so large an entirely wooden boat can be constructed before the amount of cross beams needed will make it sink. No one's built a replica without using steel to reinforce it, 4. Again, need proof, 5. Deuteronomy 21:18, and 6. That one was more a joke, we haven't had a witch burnin' in quite a few years.

@houdin654jeff My apologies, 5. Deuteronomy 21:18-21. Can't edit posts on here...
houdin654jeff 3 months ago
@houdin654jeff Good question :) Pinpointing the location of literal and symbolic interpretation is tedious. Noah's ark for example, was written in the form of Midrash literature (form of writing that time), hence the similarity to the epic of Gilgamesh. Though, a boat was supposedly seen in Mt. Ararat. Gays are not abominations as people, but sexual acts done in an unnatural way is. What was changed or "edited" were not the teachings but the CULTURE and SITUATION of the people in the OT and NT.
JakeObnial 3 months ago
@JakeObnial Unnatural sex acts? You mean any sex involving condoms, birth control pills, beds and couches (very unnatural things), as well as kinky handcuffs, costumes, leather, whips, etc? THESE must also be abominations as well. Where's the group trying to stop the sale of mattresses? Even if you want to delude yourself that such a boat could be built, there is no way you could collect, store, feed, care for and re-release into the proper environment EVERY animal on this Earth with one family.
houdin654jeff 3 months ago
@houdin654jeff Unnatural meaning using the genitals in a way it's function is not meant for: anal, fellatio, etc. Add on whatever "technique" you can fit in that description. The same goes with contraception since, obviously, it's only the sex that attracts the individuals and not really intending to form a family. Dude, like I said, "Noah's ark" came from Midrash literature meaning it should NOT ALWAYS to be taken literally.. -_-
JakeObnial 3 months ago
@JakeObnial All right, so that's not a literal story, but then how do you expect me to take any of the rest of the book as though it's literal? Jews in Egypt? A virgin birth? The dead rising? The heartwarming story of Job? And how can I know which rules are to be followed to the letter and which ones get a pass? I'd rather trust my own morality which doesn't accuse gay people who are in loving relationships of committing abominable behavior. As I've asked before, who cares what a person does...
houdin654jeff 3 months ago
@houdin654jeff well, much of the old testament was written in Midrash literature as that time necessitates since they mingled with Babylonians, etc. What's so hard to believe about Jews in Egypt? it's pretty easy to know which "rules" to follow. It's the 10 commandments. It still stands strong even in the New Testament. Who cares what a person does? that's a statement of apathy. If that's the case then laws should not have been created in society to regulate the acts of people, yeah?
JakeObnial 3 months ago
@JakeObnial What's hard about Jews in Egypt? There is not a shred of real evidence (aside from Exodus) that shows that it took place. As for the 10 commandments, I think about half of them are useless or impossible. I agree laws are necessary, but laws about what to consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes? I don't care what you do in your bedroom as long as you don't molest people or animals. It's literally none of my business and certainly not our government or church's business.
houdin654jeff 3 months ago
@houdin654jeff Commandments: 1. I am the lord thy God (nope, sorry), Thou shalt have no strange gods before me (Again, no, there are too many in the world), 2. Thou shalt make no strange idols nor graven images (I idolize Han Solo), 3. Thou shalt keep holy the sabbath (Either every day is special or none are), 4. Honor thy father & mother (Only if they've earned it), 5. Though shalt not kill (good), 6. Adultery (fine) 7. Steal (another good one), 8. Lie (fantastic) 9 & 10. Covet (thought crime)
houdin654jeff 3 months ago
@houdin654jeff Jews in Egypt not a shred of real evidence? they're all over the place because of all the wars. I even read a paper giving explanation on the 10 plagues that took place. You "don't care what people do in the bedroom as long as they don't molest people or animals" is contradictory. If they want to be bestial, why not let them since we should mind our own business, right? 10 commandments is basically about purity of thought and action -- I don't see why it's useless to anyone.
JakeObnial 3 months ago
@JakeObnial I mean there is no record of Jewish slaves in Egypt, no artifacts, no evidence of them wandering in the desert, none. An animal or a child is not capable of being a consenting adult, a two gay people are. The first bit of the 10 is about exclusivity to one God and making no graven images. Then it goes to utter respect for parents (I'd rather base it on actions) and ends with "Don't even THINK bad thoughts," which is impossible to police. Don't kill, steal, adulter, lie, all good.
houdin654jeff 3 months ago
@houdin654jeff Look for Merneptah Stele or type in Google scholar about Israel being in Egypt :) For your other point, that does not change the fact that, as you said, people are better off minding their business. Prohibiting bestiality or pedophilia IS implemented in religions, why agree with it when you dislike it? Your "don't even think bad thoughts" statement bases on the premise that we can't control our thoughts. The point is we're imperfect but that doesn't mean we can't make choices.
JakeObnial 3 months ago
@houdin654jeff ..what artifacts you want or other evidence when they were on the move and all they had was what they could carry... :). And there is record of jews in Egyot
hrisnec 3 months ago
with another person sexually? Why is this any business of mine or yours? If it's so terrible, surely God will punish the gays, condom users and blow jobbers, so let them be. You're saying any human who has had sex that didn't produce a child committed an unnatural act and (at least according to Leviticus) ought to be stoned to death? How does that kind of philosophy come to be in this world? Sex is a wonderful learning experience, you really want people to learn exclusively by having children?

The Biblical Creator is named, YHVH .

@RedVynil i completely agree with you and forgive me if i am wrong or offensive in this assumption but by what you have said i will assume you are gay and if that is the case you should be proud and proclaim it to everyone nobody has the right to say that is wrong OR to try to set you on fire because of the clothes you wear or the way by which you live your life whether you be gay or not again i apologize if i have been offensive
vikeyev1 1 year ago
@vikeyev1 Hi, and thanks LOADS for your support!!!! The world would be a MUCH better place if everyone thought that way! No offense taken, but I'm not at all gay. It's just that, over the years, I got to the point where I simply couldn't play the drums the way I do while wearing pants. They became WAY too confining and I couldn't play double bass drums the way I wanted to in them. I tried shorts and they were too confining, too! See part 2.
RedVynil 1 year ago
@vikeyev1 part 2 One day, I found a little black skooter (or is it skater) skirt and decided to try that. It worked PERFECTLY for me!! The tights/pantyhose were to keep the sweat from my legs from getting on my arms, because I'd rest my arms on my legs at certain points and the sweat, via centrifugal force, would run towards my hands and eventually make it nearly impossible to hold the sticks, especially when it'd also cause massive blisters! See part 3
RedVynil 1 year ago
@vikeyev1 part 3 Then when they'd break, it'd make the sticks twice as hard to hold. The leotard serves the same function as the tights, but it keeps the sweat from my chest from getting on my arms. It's also a major pain in the ass to drum in a t-shirt because, once I get sweaty, my shirt keeps rolling up between my arm & chest and it's VERY annoying to have to keep undoing that every few seconds. As the leo is skin tight, no rolling up! It's all part of the science being Red Vynil.
RedVynil 1 year ago

@nevturien You might risk all that for a lie, or a misconception about the world, that you incorrectly believe to be the truth.

Amen. Well put. We do not have anything to gain. The power of God's love is what drives us to want to save others. Everyone deserves the opportunity of eternal life. God bless!

@nevturien
while I believe your comment is overall true, there is a snippet of something wrong with it---we do gain something by being rejected, and Jesus Himself said it in Luke 6:22-23
God Bless

@nevturien You worded the last thing wrong, saying that you risk all that for a lie, and you explained why you risk all that for a lie, meaning you think your faith is a lie. Just thought I'd point that out. I know its nit-picking but eh I'm a nit-picker sometimes =P

@stfwho
eh, it depends on how you look at it, but he worded it as a question, kinda like saying, if we believe or know our religion is a lie, why would we go and get ourselves humiliated? i think that is what he is trying to say lol
