@ReneUhlver I get what GuerNuclaire is saying, it's esentially the same kind of conditioning that allows us to teach dogs tricks, only these are sound tricks. A test of intelligence, in the problem solving sense, would be to see whether the bird could apply the ideas to new unfamiliar situations. Say the hand gesture of putting the food to the mouth was used to trigger the word hungry, if the parrot were then to use the word before eating it's own food it would show reasoning and logic at work.
