Robots accelerate human progress, lower prices and generally make life better. Of course there will be Luddites who hate and fear technology through the process. They hate and fear technology only because they hate and fear their own mind. Technology forces them to adapt and learn new skills in order to get jobs.
@unseenxxx The human mind has limits to learning. You cannot become a nuclear physicist overnight, nor anyone can become a nuclear physicist. But the point is who is cheaper. If human work force is cheaper the bots won't be used.
oooh it works now... I love this dideo! Those bots really carry stock around the warehouse? brilliant! in the amazon warehouse we had hundreds of meters of multi level conveyers, some of these bots would've been great cause the warehouse was about 1300ft long!
I've contacted this company four times regarding a system in Denmark - I can see they have read my mails... but NO responce :-/ NOT professional :-/ But now i know why the havent got the time........ They are dancing...
Hahaha....HILARIOUS to read these sophmoric responses from people that have no idea what they're seeing. To those understand fulfillment, order picking, automation...warehousing...how that flipping computer made it to their desktop...that TV dinner in their microwave...Hell, and I havent even started with the AGV industry nuts....This is a beautiful thing!
I'm far from being a luddite. Widows xp is the best thing we've got vista is full of bugs & is only a mechanism to force you to buy new peripheals. Change for changes sake is not good either obama. & robots definatly are not a greener solution, not that being green is a solution to a problem that does not even exsist. The mojority of power used is hot water heaters should go all tankless, the light bulb is not the culprit, nor is the auto. get your facts straight artic melting is a volcano.
Even though I agree with you in some sense about XP, the rest of what you said is bullshit. Change for changes sake is likely going to be a good thing, given that if something was good in the first place there would be no need to change it.
Arctic melting is definitely not caused by a bloody volcano either. And power consumption definitely IS an issue and a vital one at that. Robots probably are greener actually, if they're efficient they probably consume less food (energy) than the a human.
tell that to the people whos jobs these things steal. no change for the sake of it is not allways better. & there are 80,000 active volcanoes right now. sometimes the status quo is a good thing or else how did it get to be the status quo unless people were not happy with it. think for yourself stop letting the media think for you. ;-)
Everything evolves, the status quo is always going to change. Stop bemoaning inevitable facts of life...
I'm not letting the media think for me at all - I don't see how you concluded that from what I said either. I guess some people just like to think they're superior for no reason.
Everything I said is essentially true - Jobs lost is irrelevant, active volcanoes prove nothing, change is always going to happen, robots are a good thing... etc. Just stop talking, seriously.
one colcanoe puts out more co2 than the entire planet has since the beginning of the industrial revolution in a few days. nobody's on a superiority trip here but you....jobs lost are not irrelevant , people are more important than their creations. i.e. robots. even the rate of change is allways changing but this is no reason to screw with a good thing. sriously if you can't have a decent converstion save the world ...... go kill yourself
@circusboy90210 Well, when we're at it we could also abolish all machines. Think about all the jobs we could generate! Think about building a copy of Empire State Buildings, but this time WITHOUT machines!
Ineffective and very last millennium, but think about all the JOBS we can get!
there were relatively few machines on that job site. most of it was hand labor and designed with slide rules, pretty much stuff that is close to impossible to do today with computers.
I was referring to the cranes, trucks, concrete mixers and such. And nothing is really impossible with computers. Human design will always give a human result, whether it's a computer or not.
Just because the spinners' jobs in the 18th century was threatened by Spinning Jenny, do you really think it would have been a great idea not to implement the new technology? Get it into perspective.
true about the cranes trucks and such. the saturn 5 rocket cannot be redesigned using today's technology. which I could remember a few things that even computers would have trouble with that were done years ago buy hand
@thatguywithnoname the saturn 5 rocket was designed without computers. efficiency & replacing hard working people with machines does not help the economy in the long run. people are not an unecessary expense they are part of the business model.
@circusboy90210 The Saturn 5 rocket had computerized instruments on-board, which were programmed using computers. For jobs as simple as stacking shelves or whatever, the chances are that machines can do it more efficiently than people. They are also cheaper. Why would a company pay more for less efficiency?
@thatguywithnoname the correct phrase would be your paying less for supposedly more efficiency. humans are allready to most efficient robot on the planet. the saturn 5 had analog computers on board, but where designed by humans with slide rules & drafting tables.
stacking shelves in a huge warehouse is never a simple operation especially in locations with multitudes of products like a grocery warehouse. so unless you've worked in one you have no basis of experience t o speak from. I DO>
@circusboy90210 Well, the robots still seem to be coping fine, regargless of how simple the job is. You really haven't given any valid reasons as to why companies shouldn't utilize modern technology.
@thatguywithnoname there is no qualm with modern technology, just useless techonoly that serves no purpose but to replace a worker with technolgy that is not superior in performance to a human. robot welding on assembly liines is awesome but in this case not.
@circusboy90210 Even if the machines aren't superior when it comes to performance (Which in my opinion is not the case for the Kiva robots), at the very least, they're cheaper. It seems a much better alternative. People losing their jobs is sad, but in the long run, it won't make a difference to the company.
@thatguywithnoname if these valuable people are not employed doing a far superior job than any robot, they cannot spend money back into the economy therefore putting those industry's out of business for lack of it.
secondly the human being can confirm the item is indeed what is called for right there @ the rack a robot does not have this capability. in the medical trade people can die because of these mistakes. plus a human can pick faster than these units as well as more accurately.
How do you work out that one human is faster running from shelf to shelf forfilling just one order versus the Kiva system which brings all the stock to you allowing you to forfill multiple orders at the manned station?
If it's anything that puts buisnesses out of action its the vast number of workers waiting to sue anyone for any thing. At least machines don't picket or sue your ass at every opportunity.
