I was on prozac for 18 days when I decided to stop taking. At first I felt great but I as the days passed I realized I was not feeling happy, actually my emotions were kind of under anesthesia. And when I wasn't feeling like a zombie I was extremely angry like I could kill anybody or myself.
I remember being put on Prozac when I was 11 or 12, and I hated.So I hid it so I wouldn't have to take it.I always complain I don't feel real I feel fake not myself...At which put if I was forced to take it, that bottle would have been throw across the room and smashed to pieces.
It caused me to have serious homicidal thoughts. I would be talking to people and picture myself cutting their heads off or strangling them. I am not a violent person, after getting off the drug I am severely disturbed by the thoughts I was having.

I would watch gore videos all day of real people getting their heads cut off and such things. The things that this drug did to me really frighten me. The fact that this shit is encouraged while people are in jail for harmless things like weed is so fucked up ( I do not personally smoke weed ). Horrible shit, I would say SSRIs are not worth the risk.

I don't think that anti-depressants necessarily cause the violence as perpetrated by the school shooters, but rather, troubled people would more likely be on anti-depressants.
Personally, I'd been in a dark state of mind. I saw no reason to live, I hated myself, hated the world, hated existence. Every other thought was how I could possibly escape existence. And then I took Prozac, and at least for me, it works like a miracle. 20mg/day for 2 years and I at least feel ALIVE.
@PwnageSoul I'm a person who always looks at things that way. That how do we know x caused y when probably the person was predisposed to an illness which would cause y and is the reason why they are taking x. However, from my personal experience these drugs absolutely cause violent and suicidal thoughts. I took it for minor anxiety and the things that went on in my head were insane and extremely foreign to me. Read my 2 posts below to see an explanation.

Just an update for anyone who may be interested. Was weened off prozac by doc, just on mirtazapine atm, deterioration of mood occurred after 3 weeks on mirtaz (first two of these on 20mg prozac also), along with anxiety, social inhibition coming back etc. Got very bad and then I had a dosage increase of the mirtaz which provided some relief but symptoms still present. Venlafaxine is going to be added this weekend...

I've been taking prozac for 5 days now. Having some bad side effects such as severe insomnia and headaches but my mood is already becoming better and the side effects will go away! It doesn't work for everyone and can hove very adverse effects in some, but for people suffering with depression/anxieties etc the potential benefit far outweighs the risk.
@ToolFan68 It's not going too bad thanks. Had abit of a relapse after feeling pretty good for a few weeks and so have now got to be on mirtazapine as well as prozac but the combo's working good. No side effects at all and feel far better than I would without my pills, e.g more energetic, better concentration, going out more, less anxiety, panic, etc and can sleep!!! :)
It is NOT A COINCIDENCE that loads of people who commit suicide are on anti-dep. medication. Suicide has increased with the widespread use of these pills. INCREASED! Suicidal feelings hit hard and quick and many just act on it and don't question the feelings or get intervention. Have any of you out there actually felt better on anti-depressants? After 10 years of lots of kinds I NEVER DID.

Problem is that people with depression usually have a hard time 1-trusting their own thoughts and judgements 2-taking decisive action and 3-trusting so called professionals 'looking out for them'. This can be a deadly combination of factors when prozac is the problem. It is so hard not to believe that the suicidal feelings are reality. We have to tell people. The drug co. doesn't care.
Wow ive been researching prozac lately (Been on it for nearly 6 months 40mg) and this video really swayed me to stop taking it. my cousin tried to commit suicide on anti-depressants, luckily the bullet ricocheted off of his jaw, and he survived. He was not a suicidal person before he was given these pills.
Try 5htp Instead Better yet get a nurotransmitter test GOOGLE It im not promoting this theres many sites that do tests. It is costly But well worth it.
Actually justbecause, the problem really IS the medication, coupled with the fact that the drug companies weren't releasing the results of studies that shown an increased risk of suicide in patients taking the drug. Doctors were unaware of this when prescribing these drugs that had such harmful effects. So for the comment 'all side effects were made known', this was not until 2004. The problem isn't the medication itself, it's that doctors will rather medicate their patients than actually getting to the bottom of the problem. Prozac helps stabilising the level of serotonine in the brain and should only be used for this purpose. A person who has suffered from a traumatic event and becomes depressed by this needs therapy, not pills. With that being said, Prozac is the best thing that has happened to me. It saved my life.

Yes, there should have been black box warnings on these medications. But you are condemning ALL of them. There are many people who have been helped by Prozac. Here is my question to the alleged victims, who blame Prozac for the suicidal ideation. Why were they given Prozac in the first place?
Most people go on Prozac or any similar drugs because they are or they feel messed up already. It's likely therefore, in my opinion, that a lot of the things that are here being attributed to there pill taking might not actually be due to that pill taking at all.
Prozac saved my life in combination with Seroquel and therapy....these people should have been monitored and screened by an experienced psychiatrist to avoid these manic outbreaks before going on any psychiatric medication. I am now off Prozac and doing alot better then I did a year ago.

PROZAC is a "double edged sword"...you roll the dice and take your chances. For example: after my dad died my mother went into a very deep depression. Prozac was the only thing that worked for her. It saved her life. ON THE OTHER HAND....I was on it for a while because of my life long panic attacks. I became very agressive, agitated, picking fights etc. I guess what I am trying to say is.....it may save your life or put you in the grave...you just don't know with this stuff.

I am sorry to hear that you lost your sister. Perhaps you should take legal action against those who prescribed the drug to your late sister. However, generally speaking I widely support pharmaceutical companies who manufacture drugs such as anti-depressants. They are designed and developed with the intention to help those who may be suffering from the effects related to depression.
They do not. I have done research and on the very website of the drug companies it lists suicide, anxiety, paranoia and other such things as side-effects. When you are prescribed these drugs this information is not made known to you. Also on these websites it states that the clinical trials only take place for a few weeks and it is never stated clearly if the drug does or does not cure the condition.

I don't have a problem with anti-depressant drugs causing infertility. Depressed parents are neglectful parents. The children of a depressed parent are at greater risk of becoming depressed. i took prozac for about 2 1/2 weeks...at first i think it had kind of a placebo effect and i thought i felt good but after maybe 10 days, all i wanted to do was sleep and i literally wanted to die; i suffer from anxiety and sometimes depression, but never to this extreme...i also had obsessive thoughts of suicide...i read somewhere that if you take it for long enough, those effects go away...i think it's kind of important to not have those symptoms at all, even if it does only last a month or so

@tifferina i can relate to you, i had to take drugs related to anti depressants. most school and work place shotoers do, and most shooters are shown not to have been violent. school people who get to the point where they are taking anti depressants, usually months before a shooting, are taking drugs because of bullying and mental depression, but most psychiatrists suck as psychology and their only solution is almost always take pills. which is like saying "nobody is bullying you, deal with it."

My mother fled the house. I then went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. Anything that was left that could have been destroyed with a knife.. was destroyed. Luckily my mother did not want me in jail. So she didnt call the police. I then went into the bathroom.. I grabbed the bottle of prozac, an entire months worth and swallowed every bit of it. I ended up puking up most of it.. and after fleeing to my friends house.. the next morning I called 911. Im lucky I even woke up.

All I can say is wow. Last summer was the worst year of my life. I had been taking prozac for about 4 months for some mild depression after lexapro made me fat and zoloft turned me into a zombie. After a sad turn of events I moved into my moms house. I noticed some strange behavioral changes that I really did not at that time think was the prozac. Basically... I was becoming an incredibly mean and hostile person.. and anyone that knows me knows that I am the kindest, mellowest, sweetest girl..
What amazes me is how these big drug companies have been given the opportunity to actively advertise their drugs on television 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many of the drugs are just as dangerous and unhealthy as Prozac.
I no longer trust my own doctor, because thousands upon thousands of doctors take "kick-backs" from drug sales reps in exchange for prescribing their medications to less-than-knowledgeable patients.

I knew Megan had recieved psychiatric "treatment" for depression and always felt antidepressants may have played a role in her suicide, but I don't know what she was taking and when so I haven't been sure.

@dragongirl724 agreed. it is stupid. the mother should not have gotten involved on behalf of her daughter, however megan should not have killed herself over a suppose myspace person. i got bullied like her and then i get people on youtube who try to instigate me. some youtubers are annoying but i wouldn't consider them to even be a bully no matter what extreme they sometimes take it because i don't know who they are anyway . i think megan would have killed herself sooner or later regardless.

I was on it for 3 months in an attempt to help my life long panic attacks. It made me "very" agressive and I was ready to pick a fight with anyone in my path. I can see how this drug could push someone over the edge. I am sure there are some people it has helped...but....the drug companies should have specific warnings, large printed warnings about this known side effect on the bottles. My mother was on it for depression after my dad died.....same thing....she turned into a monster.

Hoveyy, i hardly think a phamarticual company such a Pfizer would be selling a drug with a net worth in its millions- that has been approved by Medical councils across the globe for the treatment of depression if it were a placebo. Back in the day when i use to suffer terrible comedowns from heroin abuse i use to often crush some Prozac pills up and down them with a shot or two of Jack Daniels, - and my problems would evaporate in the air like the 'haze' from a nicely rolled spliff. Fluoride suppresses the brain and induces depression, which is why so many people experience a worsening of their depression on these antidepressants.
A new BBC article exposes an English study, showing antidepressants did no better than a placebo. Antidepressants are a useless tragedy, but the US media hasn't reported much about that.
I totally feel for these people.... but the truth is over 40 million people have been prescribed prozac and other antidepressants. Anything and everything has happened in that big of a number. As for me, prozac has helped me from disabling depression, OCD, panic disorder, and GAD. Prozac gave me my life back, I can now be a contributing member of society. I thank God every day. Trust me, you don't want to go through the suffering I have. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I'm from B.C so they aren't MY laws, but yea, you're right about gun laws, they are the biggest problam and I DO blame them first. All I'm saying is that the antidepressants are a contributing factor in all these shootings. This is what the FDA has to say about it.

I would never buy a gun and do not agree with their sale, but the gun laws were weaker in the 60s and there were no school shootings. Now gun laws are stronger, but school shootings exist. The difference is these psychiatric drugs did not exist in the 60s but are widely used now. Guns need nuts to pull the trigger. These drugs turn kids into nuts.

I don't think that anti-depressants necessarily cause the violence as perpetrated by the school shooters, but rather, troubled people would more likely be on anti-depressants.
Personally, I'd been in a dark state of mind. I saw no reason to live, I hated myself, hated the world, hated existence. Every other thought was how I could possibly escape existence. And then I took Prozac, and at least for me, it works like a miracle. 20mg/day for 2 years and I at least feel ALIVE.

@PwnageSoul I'm a person who always looks at things that way. That how do we know x caused y when probably the person was predisposed to an illness which would cause y and is the reason why they are taking x. However, from my personal experience these drugs absolutely cause violent and suicidal thoughts. I took it for minor anxiety and the things that went on in my head were insane and extremely foreign to me. Read my 2 posts below to see an explanation.

Just an update for anyone who may be interested. Was weened off prozac by doc, just on mirtazapine atm, deterioration of mood occurred after 3 weeks on mirtaz (first two of these on 20mg prozac also), along with anxiety, social inhibition coming back etc. Got very bad and then I had a dosage increase of the mirtaz which provided some relief but symptoms still present. Venlafaxine is going to be added this weekend...

I've been taking prozac for 5 days now. Having some bad side effects such as severe insomnia and headaches but my mood is already becoming better and the side effects will go away! It doesn't work for everyone and can hove very adverse effects in some, but for people suffering with depression/anxieties etc the potential benefit far outweighs the risk.

@ToolFan68 It's not going too bad thanks. Had abit of a relapse after feeling pretty good for a few weeks and so have now got to be on mirtazapine as well as prozac but the combo's working good. No side effects at all and feel far better than I would without my pills, e.g more energetic, better concentration, going out more, less anxiety, panic, etc and can sleep!!! :)

It is NOT A COINCIDENCE that loads of people who commit suicide are on anti-dep. medication. Suicide has increased with the widespread use of these pills. INCREASED! Suicidal feelings hit hard and quick and many just act on it and don't question the feelings or get intervention. Have any of you out there actually felt better on anti-depressants? After 10 years of lots of kinds I NEVER DID.

Oh man....just started Prozac and have been planning suicide for days. Just saw this video today. And my Doctor just doubled the dose, too. I am obsessed with being dead...is this Prozac causing it? What can I do about it? Cut back? Stop Prozac? What? YouTube saves lives!

Problem is that people with depression usually have a hard time 1-trusting their own thoughts and judgements 2-taking decisive action and 3-trusting so called professionals 'looking out for them'. This can be a deadly combination of factors when prozac is the problem. It is so hard not to believe that the suicidal feelings are reality. We have to tell people. The drug co. doesn't care.

Wow ive been researching prozac lately (Been on it for nearly 6 months 40mg) and this video really swayed me to stop taking it. I think about suicide alot and before I started taking the pills I dont think I ever once thought about it. Actually justbecause, the problem really IS the medication, coupled with the fact that the drug companies weren't releasing the results of studies that shown an increased risk of suicide in patients taking the drug. Doctors were unaware of this when prescribing these drugs that had such harmful effects. So for the comment 'all side effects were made known', this was not until 2004. For more information, or those that wish to flame me saying I'm wrong, read the book 'Side Effects' by Alison Bass.

The problem isn't the medication itself, it's that doctors will rather medicate their patients than actually getting to the bottom of the problem. Prozac helps stabilising the level of serotonine in the brain and should only be used for this purpose. A person who has suffered from a traumatic event and becomes depressed by this needs therapy, not pills. With that being said, Prozac is the best thing that has happened to me. It saved my life.

Hm I am taking Prozac cause of IBS and I feel normal. Who knows maybe I will go buy a gun and shoot myself. I have been taking it for about 3 weeks now and I feel pretty much the same. The only thing I have noticed is i get dizzy from it.

Most people go on Prozac or any similar drugs because they are or they feel messed up already. It's likely therefore, in my opinion, that a lot of the things that are here being attributed to there pill taking might not actually be due to that pill taking at all.

Prozac saved my life in combination with Seroquel and therapy....these people should have been monitored and screened by an experienced psychiatrist to avoid these manic outbreaks before going on any psychiatric medication. I am now off Prozac and doing alot better then I did a year ago.

PROZAC is a "double edged sword"...you roll the dice and take your chances. For example: after my dad died my mother went into a very deep depression. Prozac was the only thing that worked for her. It saved her life. ON THE OTHER HAND....I was on it for a while because of my life long panic attacks. I became very agressive, agitated, picking fights etc. I guess what I am trying to say is.....it may save your life or put you in the grave...you just don't know with this stuff.

Usually all that is needed is "Librium, Valium etc" as needed. Thats like giving someone an atomic bomb when all they needed was a fire cracker. However, generally speaking I widely support pharmaceutical companies who manufacture drugs such as anti-depressants. They are designed and developed with the intention to help those who may be suffering from the effects related to depression.

They do not. I have done research and on the very website of the drug companies it lists suicide, anxiety, paranoia and other such things as side-effects. When you are prescribed these drugs this information is not made known to you. Also on these websites it states that the clinical trials only take place for a few weeks and it is never stated clearly if the drug does or does not cure the condition.

So that is why side effects of these drugs are so unpredictable and can make killing machines or suicide victims out of human beings.
The brain is nothing more then a primitive switchboard for operating a body.

I don't have a problem with anti-depressant drugs causing infertility. Depressed parents are neglectful parents. The children of a depressed parent are at greater risk of becoming depressed. Depression is a psychiatric disorder, which is associated (treated or not) with murder, suicide, and risk taking behavior.

i took prozac for about 2 1/2 weeks...at first i think it had kind of a placebo effect and i thought i felt good but after maybe 10 days, all i wanted to do was sleep and i literally wanted to die; i suffer from anxiety and sometimes depression, but never to this extreme...i also had obsessive thoughts of suicide...i read somewhere that if you take it for long enough, those effects go away...i think it's kind of important to not have those symptoms at all, even if it does only last a month or so

I stopped taking my daily dose of effexor xr75mg and lexapro(can`t remember the dosage..)about 4 weeks ago now..
I feel scared to be honest..and feel the urge to pound some people because they keep bitchin about me `stopping with my meds without their aproval(just typing this makes me upset)..They don`t understand that when I submit and resume `so called treatment` it will make me feel even more suicidal simply for the fact that I gave in yet again..and I prefer death to be honest..

@tifferina i can relate to you, i had to take drugs related to anti depressants. most school and work place shotoers do, and most shooters are shown not to have been violent. school people who get to the point where they are taking anti depressants, usually months before a shooting, are taking drugs because of bullying and mental depression, but most psychiatrists suck as psychology and their only solution is almost always take pills. which is like saying "nobody is bullying you, deal with it."

My mother fled the house. I then went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. Anything that was left that could have been destroyed with a knife.. was destroyed. Luckily my mother did not want me in jail. So she didnt call the police. I then went into the bathroom.. I grabbed the bottle of prozac, an entire months worth and swallowed every bit of it. I ended up puking up most of it.. and after fleeing to my friends house.. the next morning I called 911. Im lucky I even woke up.

on the planet. I also was having thoughts of suicide which I had before but never became this serious.. as in planning stages and very frequent as I was on prozac. Anyways one day.. my mother said something to me that caused me to blow up. I have never "blown up" before. I became so hostile and violent that I went into the garage in a fit of rage and grabbed a shovel. I went back into her house and destroyed it. Anything that could have been broken was broken.

All I can say is wow. Last summer was the worst year of my life. I had been taking prozac for about 4 months for some mild depression after lexapro made me fat and zoloft turned me into a zombie. After a sad turn of events I moved into my moms house. I noticed some strange behavioral changes that I really did not at that time think was the prozac. Basically... I was becoming an incredibly mean and hostile person.. and anyone that knows me knows that I am the kindest, mellowest, sweetest girl..

What amazes me is how these big drug companies have been given the opportunity to actively advertise their drugs on television 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many of the drugs are just as dangerous and unhealthy as Prozac.
I no longer trust my own doctor, because thousands upon thousands of doctors take "kick-backs" from drug sales reps in exchange for prescribing their medications to less-than-knowledgeable patients.
Now I am my own doctor, because only I completely care about me.

I knew Megan had recieved psychiatric "treatment" for depression and always felt antidepressants may have played a role in her suicide, but I don't know what she was taking and when so I haven't been sure.
Last time I looked into the case, Drew wasn't going to be prosecuted, but according to what you wrote that has changed.

@dragongirl724 agreed. it is stupid. the mother should not have gotten involved on behalf of her daughter, however megan should not have killed herself over a suppose myspace person. i got bullied like her and then i get people on youtube who try to instigate me. some youtubers are annoying but i wouldn't consider them to even be a bully no matter what extreme they sometimes take it because i don't know who they are anyway . i think megan would have killed herself sooner or later regardless.

I was on it for 3 months in an attempt to help my life long panic attacks. It made me "very" agressive and I was ready to pick a fight with anyone in my path. I can see how this drug could push someone over the edge. I am sure there are some people it has helped...but....the drug companies should have specific warnings, large printed warnings about this known side effect on the bottles. My mother was on it for depression after my dad died.....same thing....she turned into a monster.

Hoveyy, i hardly think a phamarticual company such a Pfizer would be selling a drug with a net worth in its millions- that has been approved by Medical councils across the globe for the treatment of depression if it were a placebo. Back in the day when i use to suffer terrible comedowns from heroin abuse i use to often crush some Prozac pills up and down them with a shot or two of Jack Daniels, - and my problems would evaporate in the air like the 'haze' from a nicely rolled spliff. Read what is written RiiDDiiM. There is a difference between "no better than a placebo" and "a placebo." If it was a placebo it would be less dangerous!

it has also killed people across the globe as well. YOU NEVER SEE THE DOWN SIDE OF THE DRUGS DUE TO..IT IS HIDDEN. SURPRESSED..CONCEALED.

Fluoride suppresses the brain and induces depression, which is why so many people experience a worsening of their depression on these antidepressants.
A new BBC article exposes an English study, showing antidepressants did no better than a placebo. Antidepressants are a useless tragedy, but the US media hasn't reported much about that.

I totally feel for these people.... but the truth is over 40 million people have been prescribed prozac and other antidepressants. Anything and everything has happened in that big of a number. As for me, prozac has helped me from disabling depression, OCD, panic disorder, and GAD. Prozac gave me my life back, I can now be a contributing member of society. I thank God every day. Trust me, you don't want to go through the suffering I have. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

"Like the Columbine massacres, and Jokela school massacres, the perpetrators of the Virginia Tech masascre, Cho Seung-Hui, was also prescribed an anti-depressant (Prozac) prior to his suicidal rampage" - Wikipedia
In an interview after the Illinois shooting Jessica baty, the girlfriend of Stephen Kazmierczak, said that Stephen was on Prozac but had just recently stopped.

I'll tell you what caused Virgina Tech, Illinois, and every other massacre in the United States is your lax gun laws. -You'd rather blame a drug, which has helped millions- that blame a fucking gun. Very annoying.

I'm from B.C so they aren't MY laws, but yea, you're right about gun laws, they are the biggest problam and I DO blame them first. All I'm saying is that the antidepressants are a contributing factor in all these shootings. This is what the FDA has to say about it.
"The FDA announced that it has asked antidepressant manufacturers to expand the current black box warnings concerning the increased risk of suicidality in children and adolescents to include young adults, but only ages 18 to 24."

I would never buy a gun and do not agree with their sale, but the gun laws were weaker in the 60s and there were no school shootings. Now gun laws are stronger, but school shootings exist. The difference is these psychiatric drugs did not exist in the 60s but are widely used now. Guns need nuts to pull the trigger. These drugs turn kids into nuts.

These drugs help millions of people with everday daily life, if you're trying to suggest that drugs such as prozac shouldn't be sold- well, that's a highly ignorant comment to come out with.

It's a problem unique to America. And you can't accept that, well you need to review the basic facts. It's an American problem, millions of people accross the globe take such drugs as Prozac to make life easier, i know people who it has helped. So don't label the fucking drug industry because of these sick individuals that feel the need to shoot innocent students because their "different"- their mental cases. Simple as that.

first of all.. ALL THESE DRUGS have side effects and adverse reactions! Yes they seem to help some. No argument there. But there are many doses that are not good for people..etc. There is a flip side to everything. you need to open your mind and see the other side as well. We just see the people it helps. What about the people who it has hurt? clinical trials etc have been fudged for decades. my sister died due to the no warning labels.
