Ah, lost opportunities for finding happiness in a May-December relationship! Lyrical, artistic piece. Well-written script as inventive departure from the original storyline. Evocative cinematography and good use of music. With subtle ironic humor in the foreshadowing dialogue, the ending is sad but rife with lessons learned about risk-taking and differences in inter-generational perspectives. A bit of Luchino Visconti with some Derek Jarman thrown in.
