I have a pet peave that I keep seeing. The plural of "octopus" is not "octopi", it's "octopuses". The reason being that the word octopus does not derive from a Latin word, which in turn would make the plural "octopi". It derives from a greek word which makes the plural "octopuses". Please share the knowledge and don't break the grammar rules any more. Thanks.

octopus are very intelligent you should give it toys to play with - in our local seaworld they give the octopus jars with goodies the octopus unscrew them and take out the treats - he will be board and die if you dont it also needs something to hide in - i love the way he turns blue when he saw the camera - he was very interested in it

Yes they do need a special cover. They can go through a 1 cent coin, there are videos you can watch around the internet! Octopus live much more than two years, sometimes even 20.

Yes, it is daily care. An octopus takes only the best water conditions and food and are very dificult to keep in an aquarium. It is also quite costly, expect to spend at least $500 dollars to get an octopus tank started.

@The9226192 Octopi live about 2 to 21/2 years for males, depending on the breed. Females only live until they have laid eggs. Where I live at the coast, in NC, they'll just jump on a diver's arm. You can bring them up in a bucket and take them to the state aquarium. They depend on donations. I would never dream of keeping such a wonderful, intelligent, animal in a home aquarium.

I go by to visit the Octopi at the NC Aquarium and they get to know people.

@plasteredbastard77 - 1. they are hard to get hold of as many shops won't stock them so likely to be quite expensive but I'm not 100% sure.

2. Usually 1 - 2 years

3. No they are hard to maintain, they have a habit of escaping so a well sealed tank. On the tank note it needs to be big with plenty of caves for the octo to hide in, live coral is good and other community fish.

Octopus require loads of time and money spent on them but are very rewarding pets, you can get more attached to one. x

Octopus do actually make great pets, not that I have one, but all the owners of them I talk to say that they are very fun and interesting to watch. Now its possible to keep octopus becuase of the techonoledgy so there shouldnt be anything against keeping them.
