  • And thus hardcore techno was born.

  • I actually watched a whole video about the guy who made this and that bug. I think they said that they fixed it or something...

  • Good god, your scoring method is sexy! :P

  • Haha cool!

  • Learn to do a proper capture idiot.

  • It makes a pretty cool beat:)

  • i read about this trick in a play book years ago but never saw anyone execute it.

  • Great job!! Like you and everybody else, I hated those bleeps! But, for an expert like yourself who knows this trick, that's a great way to rack up points. Can't believe that it's worth "only" 1000 points to kill the pterydachtyl.

  • Damn! Pterodactyl ownage.

  • Whoa, I had no idea you could do that. Alas, my Joust machine has the green label ROMs so it sounds like it must not work?

  • Someone needs to turn that into a techno mix. XD

  • I can't do that on my machine I don't think, I have the green roms.

  • Catchy.

  • Wow!

  • my best game was 235,000 +

  • Wow! I have to try that on my Joust machine.

  • I worked at the arcade and went to school. My boss handed me a booklet, told me to read it, and handed me some tokens. I was a kid!

After that book showed me the trick, People freaked at how long it took me just to kill all the men I had. LOL. I was the Master!

  • the trick only works in certain versions of the game. they fixed it in later versions.

  • That's true. I remember trying this in a later version, and the pterodactyl would come up and hit my bird right in the legs.

  • Yes, the it only works on the "solid red" label. Green and Green/White label doesn't work.

  • very nice post....i was in the seventh grade back then in and thought i knew it all being that i could play it for 2- 3 hours then eventually had to give the game to someone else watching..excellant post i and will try this via mame.

  • That's it? You just turn around right when he's charging you to kill him? XD, Wow, why does that work?

  • It even works when they charge you from behind.

  • I had only read second hand of this but not actually seen it til now. This trick only worked on the original ROM set and was quickly patched up by the time I started playing.

Just recently I built a Mame cab and fulfilled my 'fantasy' of scoring 10 mil on Joust -- thanks to the Pause button lol. As a 12YO in 1985 there was no way I could stay at an arcade for 7 hours to do it. I think this "trick" would just ruin the game.

  • Yeah I spent 4 or 5 hours once, racking up the #1 score with a friend doing this in 1985. You can only do it when you get to level 15 or so. The arms in the pits have to be just the right strength to capture an enemy flyer. With the levels too early, the flyer gets away; after level 20 or 25, the arm is too strong and pulls the enemy in immediately. And of course you have to trick the enemy into flying close enough to be caught.

  • I don't know about this trick. That was a favorite game of mine back when it was arcades and I was like 12, lol. Wish I knew these tricks then. Wishing for a more simpiler game time I guess. Games get better in graphics, but not necc. more fun in my opinion.

  • thx now i know the trick

  • yeah

  • it has a catchy rythem =P

  • I remember some guy did that in an arcade. It was awesome. It's an easy way to get extra men.

  • nice

  • Wow, here I am thinking I was a God Joust player through the 80's, knowing how to slay the Pterry's and all, but this had me dropping my jaw! Why didn't I know of this trick when I was 13? I would have been the coolest kid in the arcade! :D

  • i did this in 1982 and got to 999,950 and stopped...it took just over 6 hours

  • Six hours? Looked faster to me, and even when playing normally it won't take too much longer to score ten million.

  • Awesome. I wonder if this would work on the Xbox Live Arcade version. Try it when I get home from work.

  • I don't think that this work on x-box version. It work only with the earlier arcade version. Williams make a new set of roms to no allow players to do that in arcade in 1982.

  • :D

  • What did you press?! Let me know.

  • Here's a link for explanations !! Thanks

  • I didn't know you could do that in the game either. Cool! it's sort of a tougb game but a classic arcade game none the less.
