When soldiers reject the order to go to war, they will be considered as "deserters" and can be executed for "betrayal" towards their country. They were forced to attack. It is abhorrent for Vietnam as well as for the US soldiers, they were not only sent and coerced to murder innocent people, Vietnam eventually gave no recognition for their aid and the citizens from the US loathed these soldiers.
