im trying to run my xbox 360 threw an ethernet cable to my computer ive done that and my computer is connected to a wireless network threw a d-link entener i followed your steps but i went to connect and it says test failed. what do i do?

you can't connect xbox live wirelessly! You still need a cable to connect thus not making it wlreless:/

Basically you are still connecting via shared network, basically still sharing the router but not physically using an ethernet slot of the router.

This method is only useful for people with laptop, because anyone connecting ethernet from xbox to computer might as well connect xbox to router since routers are always close to your computer.

@xin0 This video is for people with a wireless laptop/desktop (and that have a router far away from your xbox). it IS wireless considering your getting internet on your xbox and their is no cable connected from your xbox to your router... and no shit your xbox isn't wireless... it can't be unless you want to buy a $99 wireless adapter for it. which isn't needed if you have a wifi compatible computer. thus making the point of this video...

What I did is brought my laptop to my Xbox, put it on a table next to my entertainment system, than hid the cable behind the table and/or entertainment system. Worked like a charm.

@BobDuzYoga i got a literally 50ft Ethernet cable at best buy for like 20$, and its the best cable I've ever gotten.

and no there isn't any other way besides Ethernet cable/wireless router/ or an extra modem (60$), but id recommend the Ethernet, it doesn't go any slower than a shorter cable or anything like that.

Anytime you want to go on xbox... you need to restart the computer its attached to.
