  • @tptmeister Do you take private lessons?

  • Nice. I just got this down last week. Took me a few months :/

  • is tht a yamaha mouthpeice. srry for shitty spelling

  • Kid how old are you?!?! thats amazing!!

  • Fail u fast foward it DA

  • Unless you are an aspiring NSO player, that was amazing

  • For those of you who think the video was not sped up, you're wrong. It's quite obvious in his first movements when he brings the trumpet up to his mouth and his fingers throughout the video. The audio was sloppily dubbed over the video and the lag between video and audio is due to this, not because of a fault in editing. It's completely fake.

  • @SacredThawing i really hope your joking

  • @knifenewbie456 You really hope my joking....? Finish your sentence.

  • @SacredThawing i like how you comment about my grammar instead of the actually point of my "unfinished sentence" truly that means you have no backing to YOUR point. goodbye i refuse to argue with someone like you, not because i am afraid, but because you and i will just get into a completely different topic than the original discussion bye.

  • Your triple tonguing is very good, but your notes are heavy...if you blow more and leave your attack light, this exercise will go improve...(i'm sorry, my english is bad)

  • is that a 14b mouthpeice?

  • you should try exercise 67 its alot of fun

  • should i upload my 185 bpm?

  • 0:05 - TIME!!!

    0:14 - Ahhhh... that's better. =)

  • look in the beginning, his body moves way too fast. he recorded himself playing, sped it up, and then just added sound that he got off the internet. u ppl r dumb

  • @cheesemaon1 It was definitely not sped up... His body was not moving too fast and if he got the sound from the internet, i tink he will be smart enough to get one with a better sound and pulse... It was a good attempt though =)

  • good gosh man, sounds like 2 trumpets

  • i can do this..at like 120 bpm haha hes goin like 170

  • This was boss you encouraged me to pick up my Arban... Good Job

  • wow

  • hooooly shit this is amazing!

  • Hey man love your other video of Carnival!

I have been practicing the song myself but it's a different

version though. I'm struggleling through the finale >:/

Do you have any tips/excersises I can probably try?

I would love the help! (:

  • Is the Monette mouthpiece for a Bb trumpet pretty good?? right now im using a blessing 3C

  • He's faking the whole thing look at his fingers and at the end he ends faster then the song

  • @demonchilled101 eat my balls asshole he's like the best trumpet player ever

  • do you play jazz?

  • Thats cool!

  • what page is this on

  • its not bad! keep it up. try to think of to that exercise as always moving forward. maybe i'll post a video of myself to help you out. very good. keep practicin.

  • lol sloppy my ass. that was cool

  • GP mouthpiece huh!! AWESOME!! your technique is good!!!! well...can you play the song HOME SWEET HOME in Arban pg 240. i am going to audition for that song in July...i hope to learn a little by listening others play...but can't find on line...pls help..^^ thanks!!

  • mis respetos

  • Sounded great to me.Can anyone link me to this book on say, Amazon ?

  • Not bad, not bad, gotta stick with the met though ;)

  • no its mostlikey a megatone mouthpiece or a elephant trumpet...i think its a megtone mouthpiece though Jordanec

  • Looks like a Xeno mouthpeice to me (Yamaha)

  • This is a form of triple tonging. Right?

  • You'll find what he's playing in the Arban book. Go to page 160 exercise #20. Have fun.... ;-)

  • im in 10th grade and i cant do this wow i been trying forever on double touguing... does this make me a sucky trumpet player?

  • lol nah I am in 9th (yeah freshy ftw lol) but I play trumpet as well and it does not make you a bad trumpet player, double and triple tonguing is typically for professional soloists like Rafael Mendez....( Best of all time ^_^ ) Or a perfect one: Al Hirt playing Green Hornet. its on youtube and its amazing so yeah don't feel like your bad I am sure your a fine trumpet player it just takes practice, just like hitting high notes ^__^

  • wtf double and triple tounge isnt just for professional soloist O_O

  • yeah double tounging is actually really easy. i cant triple tounge, but double tounging is definately not for professionals only.

  • @cinderrabit lol dude no (ordinary) highschool lvl player of any instrument could do this without having no life. so nah ur fine

  • Is that a monette mouthpiece

  • you rocked thatt!

  • naturally, the notes that aren't repeated WILL stick out, even of you don't try. When I practice these, my goal is to make each note sound the SAME. In order to do that, you have to play the different note SOFTER than the straight ones. If this is done correctly, it will sound like each note is at the same volume.

Try it and see what happens!

  • They're not repeated because they are the melody. They are intended to 'stick out.' It's a similar idea to the last variation of Carnival of Venice.

  • Yeah actually you are right. I think if I remember correctly, there are accents on those notes in those exercises. I guess I just think it's harder to make them not stick out, so it's good to try both ways. But yes you are correct.

  • nice job, try to get some more air at the ''K" man, then its awesome :)

  • that's very good

  • its just my opinion but i dont like how the arbans book tells you how to multiple toungue. Whenever i said Tu and Ku the tounging was extrememly choppy. i found that using Degedege or dedegededege is much smoother

  • Arban says "My experience has proved, that to obtain a real pearly staccato, the syllables given above [tu tu ku] must be used and not, Du du gu, these syllables go quicker, it is true, but they do not detach the sound so distinctly as tu tu ku, therefore these syllables and no others should be used"

  • and i am simply saying that i disagree with the book. use your eyes and read what i wrote. i dont need to know what the book says i already know that

  • chill out, jeeesus.

  • tounging with "da" instead of "ta" will get you no where. The book is correct, don't try to disagree....just because it's easier doesn't mean it's more correct.

  • Waitt!!

    Whoa, so there's triple-tongueing now?

I thought there was only double... so wait how do you triple tongue?

  • You know how double tounging is the syllables tu-ku, or ta-ka, or another variation? well triple tounging syllables are normally ta-da-ka, although some people say ta-ka-ta, i like the normal way more because it uses your whole mouth

  • I'am 10 and I love playing the trumpet. I just started at the beggining of the school year of 2008!...but i'm still good and I have a spring concert coming up on may 5,2009!I've been prcticeing ALL year.

  • HAHA you sold your soul to Monette!

  • Practice it at about quater = 60, and really polish it. Then gradually throughout several hours, up the metronome one notch at a time until it is at tempo.

The tonguing in this video is not very clean. I suggest also thinking about tone quality, length of notes, and volume consistency while you are practicing these exercises (remember to start at a very slow tempo).

You can also experiment with different styles. Try phrasing it in different ways, and using different musical thoughts

  • I also suggest going to a university music school or conservatory after you graduate high school. (The University of Oregon has a great Trumpet professor, Brian McWhorter, who studied at the Juilliard School under Mark Gould - you can find some videos of them on YouTube)

  • I'm in college now, at Ohio Wesleyan University. I'm planning on going to grad school at one of the great music schools

  • Nice!

  • Themouseofevil, I find it harder to double and triple tongue when it gets that slow. Advice please.

  • That's actually the point! Playing slowly magnifies mistakes. You'll find that after you practice for a long time at a slow tempo, getting it to nearly perfect, and gradually speeding it up, you will improve HUGE amounts on the faster tempo as well, with ease! It's just takes a lot of practice and correction.

  • Oh...thanks!

  • themouseofevil speaks much truth there... you can apply that fine principle to any instrument. It is that misleading thought that fast means good, and slow means easy, that wastes so much otherwise useful practice time.

  • No tricks! ;) I've found that if you can't play something fast, odds are there is a problem playing it slower. Work on your "K" syllable: that is most likely the root of your problem. Get is sounding exactly like your "T". You'll get it!

  • Have you tried the carnival of venice?

  • Yeah, check out my other videos.

  • That was really good, i double tongue, but not triple. I haven't really tried it, but oh well.

  • Hey that was good .

I wish I could do it that well. I'm horrible at double and triple tonguing and I've been playing for over 8 years. It's very frustrating. :P kudos!

  • You now, everyone has the ability to do this. Just practice from the Arbans book. People think this is so magical but it is not. What it really is is hard work and practice. If you're determined and you want to get better then practice, and then you'll have the ability to play this and maybe even better things.

  • MEGATONE!!!!!

  • hey what lesson is thise¡?¡'

  • what size mouthpiece do u use & what trumpet

  • right now I am using a bach 1c. Before it was a monette C2

  • why were you using a C2 on a Bb trumpet? O.o

  • pretty radical change to make isn't it? what hord you on? x

  • wat kinda mouthpiece r u usin

  • douchebag

  • pretty crazy that you can do that without a very minimal amount of breath.

  • Ce bociu pe 7

  • Once you get the hang of it is it better than double tonguing?

  • no it isnt better, it is for playing triplets. and it harder to play ;)

  • Very nice

  • thats awesome man how long you been playin? i jus started but im gettin there ill post video response later on bro haha

  • wow!! nice!

  • That's a great idea ramonesrocker. Why don't you let us all know where we can listen to YOUR clips. Then maybe you can challenge someone on the basis of musicianship and choreography!

  • that was flawless

  • What exercise is this?

  • how DO you do that? i've always wondered..

  • It's triple tonguing. The way you do it is saying the syllables 'tu tu ku' or 'da da ga.' and LOTS of practice. Good luck!

  • Loved it

  • holy crap. amazing... dude how old r u?

  • f'd in the a!

    awesome

  • I'm on a standard 37 bach strad, with a C1-1 monette mouthpiece, but i'm switching to a B1-4 S6

  • your pretty good... how old are you btw? Im 14, and playin arbans. like the book, nice n big. But my instructor is in college, and he is a really good player, he plays with people who are well known and like twice his age, but he makes me feel like im not good enough...

  • you just got owned

  • well, thanks. And it's not a megatone mouthpiece. And if you didn't want to hear more arbans stuff why did you watch it?

  • btw you did a really good job

  • Yup... but... I still can't help but be impressed. I'm 16 and nowhere near that level of skill. Is he double tonguing or what?

  • He is triple tounging as the title says. It's not rel hard to do if you practice it. I've used it for some solos, but never needed anything this developed...makes me want to practice it again ^_^

  • well i am glad we can all read.... "is he double tonguing or what?" ... the title says triple tonguing exercise dumb ass..

  • SPUNKGIVER, he would say that because its TRUE! clarity > speed. play as fast as you want. if the audience doesn't hear it cleanly, they don't care.

  • so true spunk

  • why would you say that, would you say that to his face

  • i can do that too :)

  • dang hes raelly good (nice specialty mouthpiece)

  • your a little behind the metronome

    but thats just me

    great job

    i play tuba

    i wish i could do that =]

  • Hey, that was pretty damn good. How long have you been playing?

  • Not bad at all.

  • your parents must have beat you incredibly hard when you were first learning lol jk

but seriously thats crazy... you should invent quintuple tonguing

  • BRAVOOOOOO!! how long have you been playing the trumpet? i play it too in the band, but it has only been two raw years... gah.

  • Very well done! Don't listen to other trumpet player's criticism. Most of them are egotistical, jealous jerks. There are far too many trumpet players today who can not triple tongue. You already have an edge on them. Keep it up. You will get lots more work than they will.

  • dude search allen vizzutti as carnival of venice

  • nice nice, what page is that on in the arban book?

  • What page is that on?

and what mouthpiece do you use? Mega tone?

  • It looks like a Monette.

It s the most expensive Mouthpiece serie it gives but it is not one of the best ones.

Schilke, Jk, Amrein, Yamaha is much better (my opinion, but many players think i Have a expensive Mouthpiece so i am a rear good player.

  • haha monet or marcinkz!! thats it!!

  • Well done young dude!

  • Is that from the book? If so, what page?

  • What kind of trumpet is that? A Bach Strad?

  • Yeah, model 37

  • Lol, I have the exact same model.

    Mine is probably older, though.

  • I can double tongue but im still working on the triple tongue

  • more slowly first you are a garbero run is good but first they have to sound all notes

  • what did u do in ur mouth t ct tct tct?

  • TTK I imagine.

  • thats called practice for carnival of vanice

  • hes already played it

  • played, yes, perfected, no

  • ouch, I remember these excercises; they gave me, and my family, a tough time :p (after three hours my tongue was tired and my parents begging for me to finally stop the "tu-tu-ku" all day long)

A little remark to Lebowskin and KO8E89: I don't like the idea of doing "ka", but the "tu-tu-ku" doesn't do it either. My teacher at the ArtEZ school of music told me to try "di-di-chi" (or di-di-di) to get a softer sound and save your tongue from dying :p

  • that is soooooo freaky kool nd realii good sound trumpets r da best...except i cant do dat..i wish i did =/

  • Hello

I play the trumpet also. I try the double tonguing technique, but when i do try it the ka sounds as if im not tonguing because i don't use my tongue. How do i produce such a tongue articulation with the ka technique.

  • Welcome to hell;)

Just start practise slow, and in time. Try to play just with the "Ke" sound, then add up the "Te:s". Not "Ka", try te-te-ke. With the ta:s and ka:s you will end up with a axe-like sound.

  • im a trumpetist..Good level dude!

  • If you type in triple tonguing into google this is the 5th one down

  • nice......what page in arbans was that from?

  • Page 160 number 20

  • Nice playn' there, but if your gonna use a metronome, please play in time. Otherwise it was quite nice

  • It was in time

  • Sometimes it is, but that doesent helt you at all on the stage. Tap the eights and you will notice it, in the first part hes all out, but he catches up efter a moment.

  • almost in time...

almost.. but soo close that it dnt really matter

    this guy cud play

  • Almost isn't perfect. Wanna use this critic to be better or do you want to keep playin like an amateure?

Imaging M.F. playin a solo, incredible high and perfect intonation, but off time. That would be embarrasing. I rather play tight like a metronome than be able to play triple high G.

  • wat type of mouth piece was that in this video?

  • monette c2

  • its either tu tu ku or ta ta ka. Depends on what tone you want <:

  • dude for triple tounguing is it tu tu ku?

    or ta ta ka

  • wow

  • what mouthpiece is that? megatone?

  • SUPERB!!! That was awesome!!! I've been playing trumpet for 3 years and my articulation is no where near yours. By the way, How long have you been playing?

  • This is my 7th year now, I started in 6th grade.

  • so you're a junior?

  • wow we're like the same but you're much older than me and that play cornet and started when i was 4

  • AMAZING! Great work. I would like to know how you double tongue. I was never taught the technique,a nd it'd help my Senior Year next year.

    Matt Hunter

    Junior Trumpet Section Leader

  • I was not really formally taught. Depending on the kind of articulation sound you want to get (ex. a smoother sound) use the articulation "doo goo". That is only one... and I promise you that different people will tell you different things. I've also heard of "ta ka" or "tu ku". Anything that involves the back of your tongue creating a new articulation sound.

  • no fair, I have never had to triple toungue before, but just today in our music, we had a measure with a triple tongue note, and the tonguing for it was way weird. note that I'm only a freshman in highschool, so dont just say I suck at the trumpet...

  • Well done, only a another trumpet player knows how difficult those exercises can be.

Brings back memories of my Arban studies - I should get the "bible" out again!!

  • dude i wish i could play like that...

  • talent!!!!

  • wooouuuuu men you are amazing, i play the trumpet, i know that make all that is very hard , well, as you see i´m cant write very good in english ...

    jaja

wel i am from argentina south america, and i think that you play very good...

  • Why must you be so ignorant?

Did you know that studies have shown that people who have had musical experienc earn an average of $10k USD MORE than those without musical backgrounds?

You should be encouraging the dude. I mean to be triple tonguing at thirteen... I bet its a helluva lot more than you might have accomplished at thirteen years old. (assuming you've made it to thirteen yet.)

And as for girls... triple tonguing... lol need i say more?

  • Well...I was 16 at the time, I look younger than I am. And lightbuy, just in case you were so worried about my personal life (because it seems like you are), I do have a girlfriend. I have tons of friends. And if you treat people like that...I'd be surprised if you had any of those.

  • My bad, tptmeister, I assumed you were 13 since lightbuy said so.

And you are an amazing trumpet player btw.

  • I get mad at people like lightbuy3. I play Jazz Trombone and i think you're really good, keep it up.

  • "And if you treat people like that...I'd be surprised if you had any of those."

    Aha, great point. :)

  • Shut the fuck up. you have no life if you criticize 13 year old kids for their dedication to music. i play Jazz Trombone and I'm not a loser. Have some knowledge before you criticize people.
