  • How come this version wasn't on the dvd??

  • The German version has this uncensored picture and originally length.. haha!

  • Why should they censore a "Bikini"?? So that means kids were not allowed to go swimming because they might see a woman in a Bikini??? weird world... lol

  • it's just not the swimsuit, that girl looks like a hooker maybe a service girl from back in the day !

  • series was censored in a few episodes, because in the early 1970's it was put on Saturday mornings along with cartoons. so Fern's bilkini went bye bye...

  • A different time. A much groovier time. :)

  • Okay, I get why it was censored back then. But I saw this a a week or two ago on tv, and couldn't get why it would be censored today. I mean, we've all seen a bikini body. They show them on commercials all the time!

  • HA. NBC? WORRIED ABOUT CENSORSHIP? HA. HA. Erm....what, was it something I said> >_> <_<

  • I just saw this episode today and I was really confused about the editing. thanks for clearing this up

  • i see it.her clavege supposed to be blurred out.NBC very picky about censored in the 60's.this must be screen gems/sony backroom 8mm film that woun't be shown on NBC? i seen the censored version on syndication.i was too young about 2 years old to remember seeing the prime time NBC monkees.

  • I remember seeing it this way in the 70's when I was around 10 on local TV, but my DVD has it blurred and edited down to like a 1 minute scene

  • Back then TV did not flash much flesh. I remember when Cher broke that one by wearing outfits that exposed her navel and how scandalous everyone thought that was.

  • The BBC showed it for years so why is it now censored ?

  • I wish we'd had this version on the DVD.

  • Where the heck is THIS from? Even the DVD has the "blurry" version!

  • She can show her belly button but Barbara Eden,I Dream of Jeannie, couldn't. Not fair. ha

  • At 0:47 it kinda looks like she rubs her kitty with the thumb on her left hand.

  • was this on the dvd version? I have the rhino box set and yeah there are a lot of unremastered parts in some episodes but that's part of the charm and how I remembered seeing them when they were in syndication as a kid so I don't think I wasted my money nor believe everything must be restored unless needed.

  • And now the media is the opposite . Liberal to a fault . " The coming out of Ellen Degeneres " How in appropriate .

  • Kelly Jean Peters didn't keep her sweet figure for long. A couple of years after this episode, she appeared in the Dustin Hoffman film "Little Big Man" and she was considerably more portly.

  • @HerrEllsworth That's the beauty of film. In this place, at this time, she was smokin' hot. Way to go, Davy!

  • wow

  • OH MY GOSH!! THEY ARE SHOWING HER BELLY BUTTON!!!

    just kidding.

  • When I saw this episode in syndication, it showed the "blurred screen" version scene between Davy Jones and Fern (Kelly Jean Peters). In an interview, Micky Dolenz said that Kelly showed too much of her figure and was risque for TV at the time. I figured that it was due to the fact that NBC & Screen Gems, which produced the Monkees, also produced a show that could not show a woman's navel, "I Dream of Jeannie" with Barbara Eden, thus that's why the screen shot was blurred when it aired on TV.

  • @Jaybird1103 In response to this post, later on in the first season of "The Monkees" the episode "Monkees at the Movies" (which featured Bobby Sherman, the guy Davy replaces in a beach movie), we see girls in their swimsuits, and the tall girl that is with Davy, Tina (Linda Albertano) has her navel exposed.

  • Girlie had some legs !!

  • Poing!

  • The great character actress Reta Shaw appears as the old lady. She was great.

  • This Sucks !!!.......I Want This Uncesored

Episode, It Is So Remastered And Clear And This Is The First Time I Ever Saw This

God Damn Rhino, And That Shitty DVD Box Sets They Put Out Some Episodes Look So Bad There Green !!!

  • @AceDynasty79 That seems a bit harsh,

But this episode looks better no doubt

  • @AceDynasty79 Yeah, Rhino's version of this episode is like so "reddish" and of not very good quality like the others. Also I've seen "Monkees In Paris" in much better quality than Rhino.

Could it be because the ones that Rhino released was from the 35mm prints?

  • canned laughter is awful! why do the americans do that

  • Cuz we'z a bunch of idiots.

  • it wasn't 4 da canned laughter how wood we'z kno when ta laff?

  • fun gimmicks at the end :)

  • Nice boots at 2:36. Black suede low-heeled zip-up Beatle boots.

Lennon is wearing the same type in Help!

  • I feel like taking the cow for a walk.

  • Ah, I knew it! I knew I wasn't misremembering this episode. When I saw the censored version on the DVD, I couldn't figure out what the.... I remember seeing this unblurred in syndication. Thanks for posting!

  • dragging a chair all over town then breaking the chain that holds it...I thought I was a horny guy

  • "I myself am deeply jealous!" LOL You and me both, Peter!!!

  • What other company released the Monkees series? This must be the DVD version cause I too (assuming sromano82 does) have the VHS set (W/free watch)

There was a number of differently grainily filmed monkees episodes, this one, monkee mother and monkee mayor and art for monkees sake. Yeah, Why did they blur her cleavage and hide Barbera Edens navel? The strangeness of 60's TV censors... I still see some weird censoring on TV now and days too.

  • lol. this is funny

  • did people back then think girls wearing bikinis had to be censored??? huh, how the generations change dnt they??

  • Yeah, it's a pity. Wish we go back at least a little bit

  • The older woman also played Aunt Hagatha on "Bewitched", she was an acclaimed screen and stage actress as well, on the same scale of Agness Morehead also on Bewitched!

  • Reta Shaw from "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir." Yes, she was a highly underrated character actress.

  • Mr. Hack for the Amateur Hour. I guess they were picking on Ted Mack? Or was he just a hack? hmmmm

  • Notice how the chain around Davy's leg gets really long all the sudden right before he breaks it! the rest of the episode it was only like two feet long.

  • I always noticed how on the Rhino release of this episode, the color/picture quality isn't as good as most of the other episodes. The picture quality on this clip is pristine. I'd love to know where you found this unedited, pristine version!

  • Where'd you get this ?

  • I always wondered why they censored her bikini and never did it with the many other girls in bikinis that appeared on the show.

  • I think this is a really skinny bikini!

  • So precisely what was censored in this one? If it was all her skin, then how did they show the scene?

  • The censored version is missing a few bits of footage. They also zoomed in on the existing footage to cover up some of Fern. In other shots, they fogged up the bottom of the picture to cover her chest. That version is available on dvd as well as most television airings of the episode.

  • Yeah, and it's a shame because her bikini was cute and not really that distasteful (although it most likely was for those days on telly). This is really cool to see how much of the scene was butchered, and that poor waiter guy got cut out, too!

  • Today you can see naked people on t.v! But back then people still had morals!

  • docbrownenterprises--back then they still had censors. They also had sex, drugs and rock and roll. Haight Ashbury. Woodstock. The pill. Communes. Love ins. Sit ins. Antiwar demonstrations and violence. Racial demonstrations and violence. Women's lib. Gay lib. It wasn't like tv life. :) In fact, it was insanely different from what was allowed to be shown to the very families who were dealing with the cultural revolutions of the time.

  • I know. But I didn't know they had gay lib!

  • Go to Wikipedia and look up "Stonewall" for further information on that subject. It was another thing that they didn't show on TV back then along with Barbara Eden's belly button.

  • Lol. I don't think they do anymore.

  • @docbrownenterprises Maybe in Europe you can see alot of naked people on TV, but in the US you have to get HBO to see it on TV.Talking about Terrestrial TV not Cable TV.Every now and then basic cable channels like FX or AMC will let you see it.PBS used to let you see it before '04 as long as it was artistic and non sexual.FCC cracked down after the "wardrobe malfunction in 2004"

  • Jones height seems to vary quite a lot during this clip.

  • @dewexdewex Seems she took of her high heels for the close up scenes :-D

  • She's got a hot body.

  • davy were u afraid of a love that has no cure of?

  • I just wanna say: you have to be extremely determined to see some bikinni body to drag a chair that far across town.

  • @sexybanddork After seeing Fern in a bikini, wouldn't YOU drag a chair across town to be with a beautiful woman like her?

  • It's amazing what long hair can do. She looks average with short hair but here she's hot. The bikini bod sorta helps as well.

  • shes also in heals so that helps her height

  • Well, it was a lot of skin for the 60's, I suppose. But, in another season 1 episode titled, "Monkees at the movies", there were chicks in 2 piece bikinis all over the place. And, NOTHING was censored. I don't understand why this one was.

  • maby coz the girls were on a beach so it was more inosent to wear a bikini or they relised they were being stupid and stoped cencoring

  • Dadgum, no wonder it was censored. That's a lot of skin on tv for the 60's.

  • a lost gem. Thanks.

  • sweet how did you find the uncensored version? i have the monkees season 1 and it has all the blurry stuff all over fern.

this is great i love this episode!

  • Censored version...

    watch?v=xmRcQBj-5Z4

    2:52-4:58

  • look at the length of the chain at 2:36 then at 2:47

  • It's also of note that this version of the episode looks MUCH better than the common version with the re-edited (censored) scene. Did this come from a syndicated print discovered at some local television station?

  • How did Davy get to be taller than the woman?

  • Hire the shorties?

Or stand him on boxes. *nods*

  • I just think it's so funny that they have girls in bikini's at the beach on this show but she can't be in here bathing suit thing for the pageant show. TV was funny back in the day.

  • Yellow shirt looks so much like Bruce Lee's in Game of Death!

  • Ursula the Sea Witch!!!!! Hey 'fro! :)

  • No, that was Pat Carroll. This is Reta Shaw who played Mrs. Muir's housekeeper in "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir." Honest mistake considering the similar parts that they played on other TV shows in those days.

  • it was censored because of that dance she dose and because she was showing to much skin for those days... now days you can do just about anything on tv, and thats not always a good thing

  • The dance AND the fact that she wore a bikini instead of a one-piece bathing suit like they did on the Miss America Pagent in those days. Remember when they censored Barbara Eden's bellybutton on "I Dream of Jeanie?" Same reason! I even remember on Star Trek's "The Menagerie" where Vina the Orion Slave Girl's button was covered! Weird times definitely!

  • Lol the part where Micky Mike and Peter are looking for Davy on the streets is so funny, they find another guy with the exact same oufit that Davy is wearing and he is chained to the exact same kind of chair too lol!I always crack up at that part. :p

  • Awesome quality!

  • I am wondering the same thing ... Why in the HELL would this be "censoured" UNLESS ... this country was mired in conservatism at the time, which it still is!

    Sadly ... :(

  • Why would this be censored??!

  • Check the video response above to see the censored version of the clip.

  • @bagzie In 1967 alot of scenes were censored . Ed Sullivan wouldn't let Jim Morrison of the Doors rock band include in his lyrics of " Light My Fire " " couldn't get much higher " . He did anyway and was never invited again for censorship violation . Unbelieveable .
