na dude thats really shallow for a slider. For a 4 inch turtle you should have a full 40 gallons. and you should only be feeding her every other day or 3 times a weak. You can say i'm wrong but i can already see the pyramiding on her shell. Wayyyy too shallow though guy. Please make adjustments.
wooow you have turtle bites turtle treats and reptomin...I HAVE ALL OF THEM!^^..i have 1 yellow belly and one RES...what fruits can turtles eat?and btw that's THE BEST TANK SETUP I HAVE EVER SEEN..ITS SO BEAUTIFUL....please reply soon
charzarg in scotland (where i live) you can get a good shop, its like a garden centre and that sells turtles (im getting mine from there soon!) Good luck charzarg!
Wow, thats a nice set up, I'd love to keep a YBS and a RES together (from babies of course) But unfortunatly, everything is so much more expensive in the UK.
I doubt you do, but do you know of any decent UK suppliers of all that stuff XD
wow m8 that is some set up you have there can i ask how much it all cost to buy i would love one but will have to wait till mine get bigger . have two silders yellow bellied
with all due respects (not wanting to create acomment row) i dont want to be a noitall but you may want to fill your tank up to about half way or more please dont ignore this comment as turtles like to swim deep in water thanks ......... check out my turtles
Turtles need at least 50 gallons of water, in there theres about 5... Those horrible sucker basking stations are rubbish and dangerous if you have a hatchling in there, the filter isn't good enough, blah blah blah. Not enoguh space.
I use natural cork bark cut to size, Norman loves it. When i first got him he loved to hide/burrow behind things. Behind his filter pipes etc and turtles do the same with these poles. They carry on trying when they get bigger and can get stuck and well... Drown.
Some people say they are,but once you have evrything then its a amazing to watch them. You need a UV light unit with a uv tube or bulb -which gives out UVB and UVA rays (i use repti glo 5.0 which is most recommended) . you also need a basking area (can be aquatic wood or ZooMed floats.you need a heat lamp (can be a ordinary spotlight or halogen unit-something which gives out heat eg. 40-60watts) you also need a filter.if u have a 10Gallon tank then u can use a 20gallon tank's filter to clean it.
o yh u can use a heater to keep them more happy. the heater can be on 24/7 so they feel warm at night. I use 2 filters to clean my tank. u dont really need a heater as long as u have a heat lamp. but its better to have both.
Shame the set up costs about £1,000 for a decent one. Seriously, this has to be taken into consideration. Good filter at least 100. Can get a decent tank hand made for £200 i suppose.
It's perfect... but I would want more water - the idea is to put as much water in as you can without the turtle escaping or 1 & 1/2 the length of the turtle... or enough that they can turn over all the way beneath the water
where'd u get that tank at??? and look at my latest video, somthing weird came out of my turtles ass and i don't know what it is! tell me what u think.
That is a really bad idea. RES tend to think anything smaller than them is a potential food source. I've heard horror stories of people coming home to a headless baby or something one day.
I try to feed moderately (she's such a beggar and has learned to slap the water hard and fast to demand food). I've also tried greens, but she won't eat them! She'll eat fruit.
DUDE ONE QUESTION, DO U EVER GET TO SLEEP, thats gonna keep ur house soo bright at nighttime, u should get a overhanging uv bar, its better because it directs it right onto the shell, aswell raise the water level about another foot. @chilerelleno
How long does your filter last before you have to clean the tank? Mine is awful, although the petstore lady said it was one of the best. Lies! Waste of a lot of money.
Also, are you supposed to have more water in the tank? Or when she gets bigger?
I'm a newbie, obviously. Just want to make our "Jack" perfectly comfortable....
Lol i got 2 YBS in a 450ltr tank just new, mojo and eko are 16 months old and ill post vid asap. Nice tank and set-up, she's well looked after with lights heat etc. Good Job!!
Nice set up. I have two Florida River Cooters in a 29 gal. "Critter Tank" gonna upgrade to a 55 soon. Although with one of them being a female I know I'm gonna have to move up to at least 100 gallon or a small pool.
I have some ideas of what I'm gonna do when I do the upgrade.
nice tank! make sure those lights got some uv/uvb. raise the water ALOT!!!! as much as you can =) Your ybs would be VERY HAPPY. All sliders love to swim. once again NICE TANK!! =)
it looks like a factory!!

I generally have a higher water level than in the vid.
As long as the turtle can dive off basking areas with ease and not hit the bottom, generally twice as deep as they are long is a good minimum.

Filter maintenance varies depending on, filter type/size, water volume, types of foods/portion size/frequency of feeding and water change frequency.
I do weekly filter maintenance and twice weekly water changes.
I feed moderately, lots of proper green leafy veggies, not a lot of high protien foods (IMO they contribute to messier feces.)
