  • Im a 22 year old agnostic, And I just gotta say that Jesus Christ Superstar is phenomenal

  • I hate Christianity but I've always liked this movie and the music.!!!

  • Damn, it's Lando Calrissian in his younger days. A long time ago...

  • Jesus, the real father of rock and roll (according to this musical)

  • na na na na na na na judas!!!!

  • Love the differences of the priest's voices!!!!

  • Judas is the best singer xD

  • This happens to be a black man.

And he's the best fuckin singer of the whole musical

  • @DjavanSophie who cares about his skin tone just close your eyes and comprehend the message.

  • RUN! THE ROMANS ARE COMING

  • typical american racist facist christian propoganda black people are damned becuase they are black.

  • @doctorw2 Have you ever actually seem this movie all the way through? If you did you'd know that Simon's actor is black as well but not damned. The only reason Judas is black in this is because the producers thought he'd be good for the role. His color and ethnicity have nothing to do with it. In the 2000 version he's white. Race has nothing to do with it.

  • @doctorw2 - In further contribution to SolitaireMasta's reply, if you'd seen the movie you'd have known that in any case Judas was portrayed in a sympathetic light - rather than a cowardly traitor, he was a tormented man taking a difficult decision for what he genuinely believed would be best for everyone.

  • @Sangrenegra9 listen people like the mormons could use this film to further their doctrine on black people being damned, why did'nt they cast jesus as being black and judas being white if the makers of this film are so unbiased?

  • @doctorw2 - Are you serious? MORMONS (or anyone of the Christian Right) of all people watching this film and recommending it to anyone? A musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, filmed with a multi-ethnic cast, portraying a sympathetic Judas and conspicuously avoiding any depiction of the Resurrection?

Casting Jesus as black would have made no difference. The type of people who watch this film are the type who ignore looking at people's skin colour in the first place.

  • @Sangrenegra9 no thats not true, i heard some people who watch this film actualy tell their children that jesus was a good white man and that all the people in the bible were white even though those people in the bible were jews and they pretty much looked like arab people. you see films like this help to reinforce sterotypes about people and further more this film seemed like watching the story about a bunch of hippies rather than the life of jesus christ.

  • also annus actually just sings like a counter tenor possibly even a tenor with a ludicrous range

  • I like how people are complaining on either end of the spectrum of racism when the likelyhood is they were probably all black in reality or atleast olive toned or something :)

  • wow

  • bad judas

  • I like Psychiatrist's big hat, but Anus sings like a girl.

  • wtf :D

  • "This isn't blood money, it's a... a... *turns to Annas* what BS did we decide to call this again?"

    "A fee?"

*turns to Judas* "A fee, nothing more!"

  • @Tzilandi Are you a Parrot?

  • 1:18 beginning of dammed for all time

  • RIP Carl Anderson!!!

  • Why is Judas being chased by a tank?

  • @iownnoobsatstarcraft : To me, it represents that feeling inside yourself when you feel compelled to act. Up until that point he knew what he should do, but wasn't sure if he was up to it, when we see the tanks, we realize he's been intrisically motivated to act. That's the way I understand it.

  • @iownnoobsatstarcraft It's a representation of the war that was going on in the Holy Lands and how they were being divided.

  • @iownnoobsatstarcraft maby he's sefardik and the tank's ashka-nazi

  • @iownnoobsatstarcraft Because tanks are awesome and the Israeli government allowed it.

  • @iownnoobsatstarcraft Think it's a metaphor all rolling over him, like a tank.

Or it's just cause TANKS ARE FUCKIN M/

  • @iownnoobsatstarcraft ...for the same reason Iran is being chased by Israel

  • @iownnoobsatstarcraft It's a metaphor for the power which Judas is frightened of.

  • @iownnoobsatstarcraft If you read the description, it tells you one interpretation (that I happen to disagree with although it is still worthy.) I think that the best interpretation is that the tanks represent the grave sin that he knows he has committed. He is afraid of being "damned for all time" and he seeks to run from that damnation.

  • Carl Anderson IS Judas. He is, and no one after him.

  • christian or not, if this does not 'move' you....carl anderson rocked and ted neeley as well whom i was fortunate enough to see live on his last tour.......hoo haa!!

  • only musical that I like

  • Judas at 0:40: "What is this new devilry?"

  • I heard the 1973 version first, and I think it is better then the original 1970 soundtrack. Especially Judas. I think the movie Judas is way funkier then the soundtrack Judas. Both are excellent though. What a great tune!

  • hey i want to get a christmas presents for fans of this movie does anyone know where to get replicas of the roman squid helmets

  • NANANANANA JUDAS

  • Comment removed

  • 1:17 BATMAN!!!

  • @TheBlackSpider82 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLOLOL I SUBING YOU

  • @TheBlackSpider82 lol ya omitted the Holy shit intro

  • judas, el único cuerdo y consecuente

  • "I have no thought at all about my own reward.

I really didn't come here of my own accord."

    awesome lines

  • Annas's voice... XD XD XD

  • caiaphas and annas are 3 trillion times then those from the 2000 one

they look like real jews and sing better and there voices are not fake

  • 70's Judas + 2000's Pharisees = Perfect

  • Since I was young, I've always wondered why their are machine-guns, tanks and Fighter jets in a movie which shows a scene from 2000 years ago.

  • @stephano1990 Ever hear of art?

  • @stephano1990 they just put in a modern twist

  • The best song for the only musical

  • wow, es el mejor solo que he escuchado

    al principio....

  • @KillerKastle - Estoy de acuerdo 100%

  • this is probably the only musical i find interesting, but I never talk about it,because the people around me don't understand. And no,I'm not a christian.

  • @TheJohnnyKlebitz i feel ya

  • My favorite thing about this movie is that it shows Judas from a sympathetic point of veiw. Most others just show him as the dick that turned Jesus in. I havent even read the bible so idk what that says but this movie makes them seem human. Not jsut names in a book.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • Low the musical, but does anyone else think that Herod's aide sounds like Quagmire?

  • @GFPPgk007 Not Herod, Caiaphas lol...

  • Judas look like my black cat

  • Ridiculously Awesome, F-ing Awesome

  • Is....Is that Tiny Tim as the high-voiced soldier? o,o

    Love this musical. xD

  • @MrBbminor He's scared of the power that Rome has. Which is why all the roman soldiers have machine guns.

  • Oh my goodness, his voice is so passionate and amazing. Him and Ted (Jesus) have such soulful voices. They both wail and shout and make it sound so good. Am I the only one here who learned the story of Jesus through this musical? I wasn't raised with religion in my home and I first saw this when I was about 11 or 12 and fell in love with it (it was the 90s and I was into 70s culture). Through this I actually got into understanding the story so much better.

  • @anythingisplenty ;) me too

  • Wow! It sure was nice of the Israeli Defence Force to lend some of their tanks and fighter jets for the production of the film.

  • holy fuck that sounds like the batman theme!! or one of those damn superheros! i can't believe i didnt notice that as a kid!

  • I dont understand the ideology???

  • like the one in 2000 was kinda doing it in the name of evilness, this one is more just confused

  • @qwertyytrewq71 Actually , in both versions Judas is a conflicted , misguided social activist , pacifist and proud Jew who admires Jesus but is disgusted by the militant attitude of the other apostles , particularly Simon Zealotes , which he fears will incite Roman wrath against The Jews and unlike the other apostles who are caught up in " Jesusmania " knows The Jews can`t beat The Romans in a war and feels Jesus hasn`t lived up to his promise to help the poor .

  • @qwertyytrewq71 It`s just Carl Anderson and Jerome Pradon convey Judas` mixed emotions differently .

  • stop calling it a musical... its a rock opera

  • @kingbolbo1 Musical is just a general term. Rock Opera is more specific, can you find anything any smaller to complain about. Just enjoy the video.

  • number of likes is 666. lol

  • this guy is the best singer in the musical and one of the greatest voices i've ever heard!

  • @KemGka23 Yep him and Ted Neeley who plays Jesus - i saw a stage version a few years ago and just wasn't the same, no passion, no strength in the vocals and it lost its funky 70's egde which spoilt it in my opinion

  • the greatest musical of all time!

  • I like how everyone in this video were skinny with muscles. Now you only see - atleast 50% of them - people that are breaking their muscles 5 times/week taking loads of gainers

  • In the original Broadway performance of JCS, Ben Vereen was cast as Judas. Many in the black community were upset and thought it racist that the only black starring in the show had to be cast as Christ's betrayer.

  • Murder the Son of God for 30 pieces of silver...

  • @GirlWhoLoves2Dance

Have yo seen the price of silver lately? Up 117% in the past year!

  • Carl Anderson is the best "Judas" for all time.

  • poor judas,

  • your worry.. I ive thught the ventam war .. and who was my best frind... my best frend was as you want to say black... he was not black to not to me .. become black when we came back to the us . I dont know were he is..but he loves me and I ove him.. we saved each other livess... .

  • The priests best singing: soundtrack

Judas best singing: too awesome to compare.

  • @MrBbminor Are you kidding? It has EVERYTHING to do with it? The tanks chasing Judas show that there was a stronger force (the Romans) approaching Judas and Jesus, which was the final "nudge" Judas needed to sell out Jesus.

  • fucking love this song

  • judas, such a great singer, i love this song

  • @MrBbminor yes

  • Love this fucking song....

  • thumbs up for the ephods :D

  • Excellent opera star.

  • can't believe people are talking about race here but the film is brilliant, a masterpiece that has not ever suffered slightly since they time it was made. the surreal setting, casting, performances, music are all unbeatable

  • "Sorry, Carl. You kicked everyone's ass during casting but we can't give you this role because you're black. We wouldn't want people to think we were racist!"

  • amazing!!!!!!!!

  • annas sucks

    caiapha sucks

    judas kicks some serious ass

  • Comment removed

  • he is the only good singer/actor in the whole movie

  • @sseexymf Are you kidding? He's excellent, but all the voices are O.o just think of Jesus... do you think it's easy to sing like he does?

  • @LadyQGinny i dont know if it is easy or not, fact is that i dont like how ted is singing

  • Where did Annas lost his balls ??

  • That sound like the music from Batman.

  • They chose who they did for judas cause he's really the main guy and they needed an amazing singer

  • @crimsonking1235813 I would sure say they got one in Carl Anderson- he was just sensational!

  • @logprome becuz Judas sings the most and is 1 of the most important characters and he is the best actor and best singer

  • Judas has an amazing voice. I can't imagine anyone else playing the part as well as he did. The engery he has is what makes it and the guy is just a damn good actor. Seriously, wow.

  • @sorakey44 I agree.

I'm white an atheist but i like the human perspective of new testament of this movie. Judas is by far the best and deepest character in the movie and he isn't presented as a caricature. Besides I can't imagine another guy signing his part.

  • @wagnar Casting all around was just perfect. Everyone was just right for their part.

  • @wagnar It also did a really did an amazing job with Ciaphas and Pontius Pilate

  • @wagnar

Just the way he runs reminds a bit of Toomey from Langoliers :D

  • if judas was batman, by logic the joker is jesus...so heath ledger died for our sins

  • @flaurosan

    amen

  • a fee nothing more

  • Why is he being chased by tanks in the beginning? This is more confusing than a japanese comercial.

  • @aguyyaknow its to show the fear he had that jesus was going to bring war and death to his people thats why he did what he did

  • @aguyyaknow

It's to symbolize the greater Roman power pressuring him to do what he did

  • judas rawked!!!

  • I'm still in love with Judas baby! ha

  • @mnicolehanna Then you're sick

  • @AraArsenJan Hey Judas was very good in Jesus Christ Superstar. Very talented man and the Gaga reference... 1 there is nothing wrong with the song and 2 it is a silly reference, made me laugh. What is wrong with levity?

  • A couple of those rabbis have some hot bodies, is it bad to notice that?

  • @MsRedqueen No not at all.... and i agree,,, lolz

  • why do the priests sing so terribly? it's like they're parodying the album. pathetic.

  • @dstl4 They're trying to sing like that.

  • What the fuck is this shit?

  • @HardTekBen It's Jesus Christ Superstar.

  • @HardTekBen 'Damned For All Time/Blood Money' from "Jesus Christ Superstar"

Produced and directed by Norman Jewison.

  • Russell Brand would have made an excellent Pharisee, no?

  • Judas is the best character in this movie

  • @HowlMGO He's also the main character...

  • @Brendan8r They aren't implying anything. They choose to focus on this story- it's not mocking anything at all. In fact, it portrays it extremely well.

  • I really love his (little bit raw) voice :3

  • I love all the actors in this movie but Annas and Caiaphas' voices were well casted. Especially Caiaphas' voice (loves bass/baritone voices) but Jesus and Judas were the bombs in this movie! Absolutely adore those two men

  • Tanks? Is this a joke?

  • @MusicChannelVarious If you know the movie, you will know that it's made in the 70'ths, they mixed the story of Jesus with their time, so ya, tanks and airplanes.

  • @MusicChannelVarious its a remake story its really that hard to imagine?....

  • yo Tidus, I congratulate you had the chance to take part in one of the best operas ever written. I cant decide if i would rather sing Jesus or Judas. both partitures are so FAT... best aries ever, this beats all of Wagner and Mozart.

  • love rules!

  • por que judas es negro?

  • @alfonsobarreda Porqué ustados unidos no piensan que mexicanos cantamos bien

  • Which is the"ballsy statement"?

  • the "ballsy" satatement?

  • the only jews that could sing 2000 years ago were the black ones and ted neeley.

  • Good if u can get hippies and fat people singing and and dancing and a jesus with a strangely high pitched voice

  • My favorite musical- w ith the incredibly talented Carl Anderson in the role of Judas. Listen- and enjoy!

  • I was awarded as best actor as I portrayed the role of Judas Iscariot 25 years ago.

  • Judas pursued by Israeli army tanks

  • Just don't say i'm ! na na na na na na na na BATMAN!

  • 7 people are dammed for all time

  • Judas was a great singer

  • Cut the contesting, forget the excuses, we want information..

    Get off of the floor...

    Annas is cold-blooded

  • This is a great spiritual musical, that calls people to think about the LOVE that Jesus wanted to teach.

Jesus was a great open mind man.

  • I love this musical yet I have been told that as a Christain I should see this musical as offensive since it seems to be making fun of what Jesus went through. Yet this is a very popular Broadway show and people are introduced to the gospel through it so I am so confused. should i hate it or not.

  • @catkeena While this is something you should search for yourself, I am a Christian and I appreciate it. It's just simply another interpretation of what transpired. There are thousands of books on this story, and only a few made it into the Bible. Doesn't mean all others are false.

  • haha one voice is very high and the other one is very low :P

  • True Romans soldiers drive Centurion tanks!

  • Saying this as a white guy it was racist to make the " bad guy" ( he actually wasnt that bad just made 1 mistake) a black guy cause this was only 10 yrs after MLK

  • @Flyairkid00 Hmm well I'm black but don't really see it as racist but I see how people will view it like that. I'm not sure how the casting process was run (whether people auditioned or the roles were given to these folks immediately) but I feel like perhaps this actor had the best voice/performance skills compared to others they may have had in mind, whether he's white or black.

  • @Flyairkid00 I'm black, and this is the way I look at it;

Would you rather they cast a shitty white guy as Judas, who couldn't sing worth a crap.. Or would you rather had a bad ass black singer?

  • @slashofdeath Bad ass black singer, hands down! Carl Anderson is the epitomy of this role for me, and I love the orignal cast!

  • @slashofdeath Bad ass singer. This dude is AWESOME
