@FRArognetwork I loved it because I went in thinking it was going to be normal guns and explosions science fiction film. It's a film with deep messages and a lot of heart. The underlining political and social messages weren't hammered it, but they were there and made you think. Better Than Sex. This movie doesn't have a damn thing wrong with it. The story is told in a fantastic way. The aliens look amazing and act great. When it comes down to the last minute of the film, I was sitting with the remote about to hit menu and re-watch it. I love alien movies and this one did not disapoint. I watched this movie thinking that this was real. There were a lot of good interview scenes and news scenes that I started to believe that this was happening.

Once again their is prove that having a big budget doesn't mean the film is any good. In fact having a smaller budget is good, because it means that the studio can't induldge, TV series Torchwood is another prime example, seasion 3 was pretty much striped of the usual budget but the show just got so good.
Micheal Bay and George Lucas take note from Peter Jackson,you dont need a massive budget and CGI special effects up the arse to make to great movie.CGI is a great tool but since the late 90s directors just relyed on it waaaaaaaay to much.now most movies are all eye candy and no substance.

Avatar was the Crysis of movies, good graphics and nothing else. Then we have District 9 which doesnt have a multi-billion dollar bugdet, and still manages to pull more from the actors, graphics, and emotion than Avatar ever could. I saw this movie 5 times, and I now own the Bluray. I do wonder about a sequel however, I dont think it would have the same impact as the first, as is the "rule" of Hollywood.

good on ya guys, about District 9! This was a great movie and is brilliant. It's more real to life and is about aliens. Brilliant mind. The slang and name calling of 'prawns' was even perfect. You could image that if this was real life this is what they would be called. Reminds me of what happens to illegal immigrants who come into countries and how it would be in 30 yrs time! Loved it too.

Once again their is prove that having a big budget doesn't mean the film is any good. In fact having a smaller budget is good, because it means that the studio can't induldge, TV series Torchwood is another prime example, seasion 3 was pretty much striped of the usual budget but the show just got so good.

Micheal Bay and George Lucas take note from Peter Jackson,you dont need a massive budget and CGI special effects up the arse to make to great movie.CGI is a great tool but since the late 90s directors just relyed on it waaaaaaaay to much.now most movies are all eye candy and no substance.

@MPT1983 Thank god your not a george lucas apologist and star wars fanboy. George Lucas was a genius but now he has degenerated to a lousy a writer and a bad actor's director. He actually admits he is a bad director and writer. I think he's best at writing stories that someone else turns into a screenplay which adds all the dialogue and focuses the story around. This is why Empire and Jedi are such amazing films. A New Hope was a well directed masterpeice. But he's lost his touch

Avatar was the Crysis of movies, good graphics and nothing else. Then we have District 9 which doesnt have a multi-billion dollar bugdet, and still manages to pull more from the actors, graphics, and emotion than Avatar ever could. I saw this movie 5 times, and I now own the Bluray. I do wonder about a sequel however, I dont think it would have the same impact as the first, as is the "rule" of Hollywood.

In 2010 though there was 1 sci fi film I liked even more than District 9(although District 9 was amazing and totally awesome a 5 out of 5 star film) that film was Inception.

Absolute masterful film making. And the very very very end when he makes the little flower i kinda almost cried..I just hope they come back for him like they promised. maybe a sequel is neccessary or maybe its not.

@SmoothBrolly That's how you know a masterpiece from a run of the mill film. If it's great the first time, the creators have accomplished their purpose. If you have to watch it 2-3 times to understand it, most likely little effort and vision went into the idea and final product.

good on ya guys, about District 9! This was a great movie and is brilliant. It's more real to life and is about aliens. Brilliant mind. The slang and name calling of 'prawns' was even perfect. You could image that if this was real life this is what they would be called. Reminds me of what happens to illegal immigrants who come into countries and how it would be in 30 yrs time! Loved it too.

Oh wait, the movie was produced by Peter Jackson that brought us 100,000,000 dollar movies like the Lord of the Rings series which proved to be total garbage. I think it was ok, but there were lots of plot holes and what happens to the guy is a bit unoriginal (The Fly). So I wasnt crazy about this film. I know everybody is gona hate me, but i liked AVATAR more (mi opinion)
