Everyone on here knows who Pat Buchanan is don't you? He was in the Reagan admin, and has tried twice to run for president himself.
He is about the most staunch republican tv analyst out there--but he even called McCain "Bush on steroids", and that McCain represents nothing what the conservative party is about.
So McFlipFlop is a republican with a pacemaker heart of gold, the same who said last week sending troops home and ending the war doesn't matter? and Ms.Pants Suit who throw the "kitchen sink" at Obama and he's still standing..at least he didn't stoop to her level of dirty politics which is only one of many of her mistakes...staying with Bill was another one.
Obama whole campaign is a PR stunt. What has he done, is what I would like to know?.... And the main stream media assault, on our "common sense" continues....
Hey there! Have you looked up the word whining yet? If your the standard of a typical Obama voter. This election will be fun.... Yes! fun indeed, No my friend, I will not forget you, My "whining" little friend, I shall not forget you....
You haters are so cynical. It's not about Tv time. You are someone's miracle so be a Blessing- not a complainer or whiner. What did you do? Did you help, pray or speak a word of encouragment or do you whine and be cynical? Choose a better method or stay negative- you only hurt yourself!!!!
what a guy for what??? Getting in some tv time PR...if he really wanted to help he can give some of his money to hire people for that work. Giving them a temp means of money plus helping the community. He shows up with the press wearing a long sleeve shirt .. guess is jacket and tie is in the car
Because he said his hearts go out to the people and he would sure take the time or his staff to tell the voters he gave money..thats bigger PR than him putting sand into a bag
No, if any politican wanted to really help these people, they would be out there doing hard work with them. OH, wait, Obama was already doing that! Either way you look at it, he showed he isn't afraid to get dirty to get the job done, and I think that would apply in more ways than one.
Well, I would think he showed up knowing he was going to be doing some work. Who do you ever see doing manual labor work wearing a jacket and tie?
Yeah his long sleeve shirt is obvious but it really looks good when you take time to roll those sleeves up and get dirty. Not afraid to get dirty I wonder how many scoops he did maybe 10 mins of PR
Like I mentioned in one of my previous posts on this video, I read it was something like 5 shovel fills of sand, but seen 3 myself in different videos ( that weren't the same because of the conversation taking place. )
If it had been me though, I would have wanted to use a different set of clothes before standing in that sand and shoveling it ( who knows what waste has been mixed with that sand, unfortunately? ) which may explain why he decided to do that on a spur-of-the-moment thing.
Obama couldn't have shown a better example than showing he is willing to do some of this hard work too to clean something up ( aka, can we say "Iraq"? )
he took time off his President Campaign to shovel sand> Dont you think he could have taken a day off the primary to have an oversight hearing on Afgan since he was the chairman..NO he could not and not one oversight hearing went on during the 15 months while they still were having ppl killed in Afgan...Isnt that what a leader should do
Unfortunately, he isn't the official leader of this country yet, Bush is. Did you notice how Bush made sure he didn't quickly get back to the US from his European vacation ( vacation because he accomplished nothing by being in Europe except piss off England and Iran--where he wants to SANCTION their oil?!? further against us ) where he's expected to meet with the flood volunteers tomorrow or Thurs? and Bush is a leader?!?
McCain has already started the talk about Obama running as Carters second term but did not catch what he was refering to unless the entire 4 yrs in general.McCain will also use the surge as working and no attacks in the us since 9/11 whether we agree with that or not ppl like to hear it
Ok, now I know what your're referring to about Obama and Carter. Thing is--the scenario's are different. When Carter was president, there was a gas shortage.
I haven't heard of large #'s of gas stations closing down because they have no gas in recent memory.
True, no 9/11 attacks McCain will use, but then Obama will bring up those are the people that attacked us and not Iraq, and that is why we need to re-deploy our troops to Afghanistan, not Iraq.
The stations are not closed but soon the ppl will not be able to go..problem is the ones that did 9/11 are NOW in Iraq also they are in two places Some additional troops have been sent to afgan
Yes, exactly. People won't be able to go because they won't be able to afford it, and that will cause people to riot and fight over a few tanks of gas before it would get better. Attacking Iran will only speed this process up.
no riots yet but may not be long..they are already driving away from pumps not paying and then siphing gas on the rise..ripping off gas station its only the beginning
and if Bush ( or McCain is the next "leader" ) , and is successful with sanctioning Iran's oil and gas, you know what will happen don't you? ( or if McCain like he promises, to do the same thing! )
You think gas at $4.20 something is expensive--$7 or $10/gal gas will be a reality REAL DAMN QUICK! Can you afford to pay for gas to get to/from work and the cost of food that will rise with it? I sure as hell can't.
Obama might not be the best candidate to run, but at least there is hope,
who ever becomes president there is hope for the future of the US..we sure do not vote someone into office no matter who they are without a feeling of hope and that they will do the right thing
I agree--but there is no hope if McCain is in office. I think if I were a republican, I would feel even stronger about that.
McCain isn't a republican when he don't want to conserve anything--he wants to spend more $ in Iraq, then Iran, and more to come, and squeeze the hell out of the middle class--we don't need that anymore.
and with McCain what hope is there of anything--anything at all--getting better ?
He wants to stay in Iraq = fuel costs continuously rise, and though I am not positive Obama will end this illegal invasion, if he manages to do it, that will be a HUGE plus on his side for cleaning up Bush's irresponsible mess that has become the biggest foreign policy disaster in US history.
McCain in now for off shore drilling and will leave it up to the statew however most americans favor that..both want to stop illegal immigration but no one can do it without congress..he said stay in Iraq IF NO INJURIES OR DEATH...if that keeps up in a civil war we will not be there..McCain is for 4 yrs only and brings experience yes experience and I believe we need exeperience
No injuries or death? We have soldiers ( and US civilians ) getting killed or hurt everyday right now. That doesn't include innocent Iraqi's.
Look what happened when it comes to experience the last 7 yrs. Bush had a LOT of experience, and looked what happened. Nixon had a lot of experience before he was president too and look what happened there.
JFK had little experience, Bill Clinton had only 8 yrs as Ark. Governor--neither of them did a bad job ( Clinton actually ran as a republican. )
yes i know killing everyday but he was refering to 100yrs .. he meant to maintain a present in that country but only if there was no fighting. I like Nixon he goofed with the tapes but I liked him..Obama is surrouding himself with experience and lots of them clinton advisors..he could never go into the white house with bring all kind of experience with him or he would fall apart. Bush surrounded himself with his fathers advisors and that was the downfall .. I think Bill was there 12yrs I think
LOL about Nixon. I am actually hoping Obama picks Clarke as his VP because that will draw even more military personnel to his side than he has now.
Yes, Obama seems to be picking some of Clinton's people, but he has maintained very good judgement on his decisions he's made over his professional career.
McCain scares the hell out of me because we need someone to take control of our budget and use it wisely ( like fixing the levees on the Mississippi now, in addition to New Orleans, etc )
he has made bad decisions and his character is more in question than his policies: His association with the church and pastor wright, Ayes, Pfleger who gave him money for his senate race and Obama put an earmark to secure $100,000 for his St Sabina church; Rezco who Obama lawyered for and gave thousands for his campaign and this slum landlord turned the heat off in the building he owned. He would not renouce both ministers until it started to hurt his campain as wright said he will say anything
I'll admit Wright, Rezco won't help him, but McCain's affiliation are with Bush and Hagee ( who said the people of New Orleans deserved Katrina's destruction--such a thoughtful thing to say. )
I think Bush and Hagee will harm McCain more than Obama's with Wright and Rezco will be.
Funny when Pat Buchanan and even Glen Frye ( both staunch republicans ) said they'll never vote for McCain because McCain is "nuts" and "wacko".
Hell, Buchanan said McCain is not even a conservative.
Hagee a priest that endorsed McCain and McCain withdrew his support..he was not his personal pastor of 20 yrs njjust a priest and far as association with Bush Bush is president everyone senators had an association with him
And then Messianic Obama shall proceed to walk across the flood waters, and then he shall heal the lame and disabled. He then will hypnotize, the press zombies! To write great articles on how, he is in deed the "son of God" And he is here to release us all, from our earthly shackles! NoBama 08!
he helped out like any normal human being would if they were visiting a site like that. obama's background is as a community organiser, you don't dedicate yourself to that kind of thankless work for any reason other than a strong sense of...community. which means respect and consideration for your fellow man.
i wonder why george bush and dick cheney aren't there helping. why didn't they help new orleans. they don't care, they're not normal humans. there's something wrong with them.
Any normal human being doesn't have a media circus following them along with tight security, dumbass. You don't think they get in the way? Of course they do.
Yes, any politician is going to have tight security with them all the time. I do agree with you on the media circus point of view though, especially as big as Obama is this election year.
Their security will not however get in the way of the politician--that will usually get them removed from that protection detail, so they know the candidate beforehand ( as far as their personality with the public, where they like to move, how long they stop to talk--all of that. )
I'm sorry they weren't there... They've been busy protecting us from you know.... terrorism. They don't have time with the photo ops... I understand where your coming from though, Obama has a campaign to run. Thats very important, very important.... Next! NoBama08... Damn thats sexy!
That's why Bush couldn't visit New Orleans during Katrina - because of terrorism? That's why he took so many vacations during his first term? Really? Is that how it works?
Bush and McCain protecting us from you know...terrorism?! How is pissing all these other nations off, by invading them based on lies knew beforehand, against us protecting us?
Why don't Bush and McCain try to prevent an invasion of Iran before trying to find just any little reason to attack them? Think gas is expensive now?!--watch what happens if the US attacks Iran. OMG........
Yes, Bush, Cheney ( or McCain--since we're basically referring to the same individual ), are all sociopaths, and that is why they don't care.
What scares me most about Bush is what he is going to do his last 30 days in office of who he is going to pardon, or what other brain-dead moves he has up his sleeve, Holy Shit!!.............
What the hell... read your own comment. {See if it makes sense to you?} I was responding to you, I said nothing to you before, you commented to me. I said, stop whining, is that easy enough for you?!
Really? your going to play this game with me.... Whining, as in the sound that a child makes, when they don't get their way. Perhaps, you should check a dictionary your self, Before you proceed to be, condescending to me. You indeed are one of "those types... typical, Obama type! "Do you know what a dictionary is?" Funny guy!!
O your back! I was waiting for you this time... Still haven't looked up Whining have you? Learn english you said.... Funny Guy!! Check Webster's.... Learn english... Your sure, your an Obama voter, because that was not very p.c.... Funny!!!
Well, I don't think that would be easy enough for ronpaul2016 to understand as they do not get that even though everyone was admitting Obama did this for a photo op ( like ANY candidate would do ) but the thought that he actually showed up, and did even a little work seems not to have mattered.
Of course, if he were already President the floods would not have even happened. There would be peace among men and tranquility in nature. The mountains would be laid low and the seas would be calmed. Hunger and poverty would be distant memories. The need for fossil fuels would be eliminated.
A new age would be born, one in which mankind would finally realize its ultimate potential. The need for individual freedoms would end because He, Barack Hussein Obama would inspire us to give all to him.
Well Im moving on leftys! keep bowing to you master !free minds make good voters ,along with your twenty million illegal alien votes !get them all ids And registerd to vote just don't give them my ssn.
True. Wanna know something? For CNN being called a "liberal-leaning network " nowadays by the right, I find it odd that they never ( not sure about the other networks ) reported this. I guess since Obama showed leadership by example, the press decided not to cover this.
Thank you to "AssociatedPress" for posting this video.
oh of course, only republicans call cnn a liberal network, because to me the the most fair. Fox news only mentioned this story like once, while cnn showed the full clip and even has it on the web page to discuss about.Fox news is for republicans and by republicans
Hey, Id rather a candidate take a photo op at a flood site, than not even being there at all. or better yet: sending out an automated response from washington like John Mccain did.
there is no reaosn to hate on Obama for this, Yes this was probabaly completely staged, but the mere fact that he was out there, and spoke to those people showed that he cared.
Right on Rossi. You're smarter than a couple on this comment page. Kudo's to Obama...which he didn't have to do. He could of been like McCain...and say "sorry". But ALL the ones that was helping fill sandbags whether it be one or two...or fifty or hundred, still does good.
Exactly! The thought counted, and I am sure in these people's eyes, will count a lot.
If Obama just stood there and spoke to the press, that would have been different, but he showed he is willing to work to get something done that benefits all those affected by a tragedy.
I'm sure that McCain's camp was kicking themselves when they got wind of this.
Even the others that was there helping, deserves just as much praise as Obama, they all did their job. Like I said before, McCain wasn't there, nor was Bush, nor was Ron Paul. Ooops thats right, Ron Paul dropped out...so he doesn't need a photo op. Much less don't give a hoot for the unfortunate ones.
Fuck all three of those guys for having a photo op like this. Oh yeah, just Obama did it. And boy did it work on his mindless cult who thinks he is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Not sure about the others, but I never have stated he is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but out of Obama, McCain and Bob Barr LOL, Obama is surely the best of those that are running for President.
By the way, I was in the military and know how to fill sandbags. Obama is slow as fuck. I'd have gotten smoked in a second if a drill sergeant saw me doing that in basic training. Later, I'd be called a "shammer" and would be yelled at for slacking that way. Plus, usually the faster you fill the bags, the faster you are done. In this case, the more bags the faster the safer what you are trying to protect is.
This is a ridiculous photo op that a bunch of Obama fans are gushing over. Sad.
Whoopie Doo...goodie for you. You know how to fill up sandbags while you was in the military. A 3 yr. old knows how to fill up sandbags. This video is about "helping" in ANY way. I don't see McCain or Bush anywhere around...do you??? So do you get it??!!! This is not about gushing.....this is helping. Whether slow or fast, its the "THOUGHT" that counts!
How did he help ? did he donate Money Out of All The Leftist Groups Millions in his back pocket? Filled a few Bags WOHOO < Your come back will be how do I know I wasn't There ! So I'll beat ya . Im disabled But if I had resorces I would .
Well, whether you agree with his "leftist" views or not, he has the popularity of a rock star. He's not my first choice for president, but I have no problem backing up someone who is willing to do some hard work to get something accomplished that helps a community.
When Obama's hard followers see him leading by example as he did here, they will surely be donating to the families hit hard by the midwest flooding.
Congrads to you for having the knowledge to fill a sandbag. That alone is a sad statement you even brought up.
Was Obama being ordered to do this like in the military? I didn't see if it he was, and you are right about one thing--true he wasn't moving fast, but he was answering questions from the press, but he at least rolled up his sleeves and was doing manual labor ( in his dress slacks as well )
So, he isn't afraid to get dirty to get something done.
Do you really think Obama or any political official is there to do manual labor? Really?
I know you have this whole conspiracy theory that they're selfishly cashing in on a photo op, but you need to realize that people are inspired when a tragedy hits and the nation's leaders recognize their suffering, as opposed to feeling abandoned like they did after Katrina.
No. This is a bunch of Obamatards following their "dear leader" crying that Obama is giving them home instead of recognizing this as the simple photo op it is...designed to sucker people. Consider yourself a chupa-chup.
I don't think anyone has denied that this was used as a photo op. But you are ONLY looking at it as such and missing the broader point, since you're determined to spin this in the worst way possible.
If all Obama wants is photo ops, what was he doing the day before? The week before? How many other tragedies has he, as you probably see it, "exploited" to get on camera? You have no basis for your accusations and overlook the purpose of his visit.
If Katrina occurred under Obama or McCain you can see how issues would have been handled.
I didn't expect Bush to be retrieving bodies out of homes or in the streets, but to wait THREE days ( and that is a LONG time to be living in waste-filled water ) before sending or doing ANYTHING to help--that was Bush's action that really topped it off for me for him, and his WHOLE thing with debating Kerry was saying that Kerry wasn't a leader, and look how Bush led just 8 months later.
It great that Obama is there rolling his sleeve's up and putting a spot lite on this tragedy.
It's great to see a politician on the ground working and not just flying over the devastation. Great job to all those volunteers, so proud of all of you! United we stand!
I'm so proud of obama for rolling up his sleeve's and getting his hands dirty. He called off the Iowa conventions and asked us all to go help out with flood victims. He's amazing how he gets involved. Every body helps. I worked filling bags for 3 hours today. I'm just so proud of him and everyone who got out and help. United We Stand!
You're more of a leader than McCain is then--you got more done helping these people than McCain ( or due to his age, anyone from his family, or staff ) accomplished.
I'm so proud for Barack Obama is running for President of our country, enough of the same old politics, they taking care of nothing else but themselves, here you have Obama doing what Bush and McCain didn't, helping the country, literally, with his own bare hands, try that McCain!
I thought I was seeing things when I first saw this video....I wasn't.. Now THAT's what I'm talking about!!! Not arriving three days later but HELPING...Literally. All respect to Sen. McCain but I wouldn't expect you to be able to help. The president of The United States is not a job for a Seventy somthin'year old person. You want Obama to visit Iraq, Hell...They are about to be swimming in Iowa...Downtown..Let's take care of HOME. Cudos to you Mr. Obama!!
Thumbs up. At least you see the point of Obama being there filling the sandbags.
Judging from people in Iowa that were affected by these floods, that means quite a bit to them, even if it did take only a half hour or so out of his day to do. Whether he does or not, it at least gives the impression that Obama cares about these people.
Unfortunetly the 95% of the right that he's leaning to are not regular conservatives, their NEOCONS and will only further alienate us from the rest of the world. We need to get up outta Iraq a.s.a.p and McCains talking about staying there for 100 years but then he says he wants to leave by 2013..The choice is simple here folks...Obama/Clark 09!!!
You damn right he's gonna win the election hands down...which REAL conservative would vote for John McCain? John McCain's a big Panda Bear! Pandering to the right 95% of the times and tilting to the center 5%. The sad part about it is, he doesnt even look like he knows what he's doing. It's as if he's just randomly saying shit that he thinks people he needs to win come november want to hear. I don't know where he really stands on any of his policies other than Iraq and even that's shady.
I think he wore gloves so he wouldn't calluses. Something you would know about if you've ever done hard work. Can McCain even lift a shovel? I guess if he hurt himself Cindy could give him some Demoral.
Obama is no more an Iowan than McCain is a Californian. If Obama can take a day out of campaigning to help out flood victims, why the hell can't McCain take a day out to help those in Northern Calif who've had to watch their homes burn to the ground?!
Just another point of McCain is not change we can believe in!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Propaganda! He went to his old stomping grounds for photo opts. Cedar Rapids & the rest of Ia. got it worse. The people supported him in that state and he didn't even attempt to go there. What kind of commander in chief would he be? He's a chameleon. He had gloves on? Guess he didn' want to dirty his baby soft hands.
Well, I think Obama would have either already known, or looked at a map to clarify just to be sure before making that comment.
What should be Obama's excuse for what? being a leader who leads by example? for standing up for what he knew beforehand it was going to be an unpopular decision ( but had the right judgement on? ) Take your pick.
Well, if it is McCain as commander in chief, God help us all because anyone who relies on a roof over their head, transportation or food ( you know, basic essentials ) will really be hurting.
The Reason Things are screwed up now is from the democrats in the house voting out all republican proposals ,thats why bush vetos all their shit ! You actually think you will get a democrat in the oval office with a democrat majority in the house think about it , LMAO
Well, I think the House and Senate feel good about Obama ( they were congradulating him after he clinched the nomination ) by referring to him as "Mr. President", and even Obama admitted that was too early to refer to that, PLUS they gave him a standing ovation!! True, his monkey-brained so called "leader" AKA Bush didn't invite him to the White House but oh well. I hope on 1-20-09, Obama tells Bush he's got 10 min to get his shit outta there, and not let the door hit him on the ass on the way!
and no, Bush vetos all their shit, because Bush is vetoing the will of the American public now because he don't give a shit about the public's view now--he's down to about 215 days ( unless he invades Iran and declares martial law--which knowing him, wouldn't put it past him to do that ).
Think about it--the public ( over 70% in all these cases! ) wants out of Iraq, wants the oil companies profits lowered, wants stem-cell research conducted, etc, etc etc. and Bush is vetoing all of it.
Why? How does that even make sense? Are glasses for "pussies"? (you should learn to spell, by the way) Are clothes for pussies? Are big words and a college degree for pussies?
Or is it simply that anything you don't like needs to be given a derogatory label?
oh come on now...the guy is old. I don´t know anything about his medical conditions but i can´t see him doing this, i think he would if he could. To be fair, he did his share in vietnam. Leave the guy alone. Lets not act as disgraceful as the GOPs.
No, McCain was busy out attacking Obama's economic plan, again today; meanwhile he makes more $ today because gas prices just broke yet, another record. McCain was working with his mouth; meanwhile Obama was working using physical strength.
Imagine folks, what gas will increase to if McCain gets the presidentcy, because he will keep Iraq going and then invade Iran and who knows who else!?
Now in reality this IS a photo op but who care? It's the right thing to do. Like I said before, where are Bush AND McCain? There is no excuse for them not being there, especially Bush. The way I see it is, if these men are "TOO BUSY" with campaigning or "golfing" to give a helping hand and show the people who they will be leading into the future that they feel their pain and want to do something to help ease the burden then they shouldn't be allowed to govern. POINT BLANK PERIOD!
yeah, dropping half the dirt on the ground next to the bag. Anything for a photo op. Just like Rev. Wright said-he will say and do anything to get elected. He has the election all sown up. So you can just stay home and watch him win.
well, if he didnt do anything, you would say "he doesn't care" now that he actually did something you are saying its politics. Obviously, you can't please everyone.
Sometimes you have to not be a moronic libtard and realize that the media hoopla and security around Obama probably caused less sandbags to be filled. Obama would be best off getting a no-name staffer to join the effort in his name. Instead, he does a photo op so morons like you fall for it.
No, you are wrong again. I said earlier in one of my previous comments if you bothered to look, admit he did it for a photo op ( any politician, INCLUDING Ron Paul would ) have done the same if they could, but Obama did some physical work to help get a community rebuilding. When was the last time a politician ( outside of John Edwards in N.O. ) did that?
The photo op is precisely the point of a photo op--for name recognition. Who the hell is going to care if a "no-name staffer" did in his name?
And you're calling me a fucking dumbass? Most of those tax rebate checks that got sent out a few months ago are going to put food on the table and pay for a few tanks ( or for some, a couple tanks ) of gas. Both food and gas have gone up exponentially, that the rebate tax checks are almost invisible, and to those that don't earn much, they are.
So, for those that didn't earn that much last year because they're working minimum wage jobs, etc. how much do you think they got? Next to nothing!
Lastly, if your right-wing thug had a clue at all yourself, you'd know that wasn't just Bush that decided on the tax rebate checks, it was Congress as well.
Ronpaul....Practice what you preach. You think the stimulus checks was big??? If you do...you're the f*ing dumb douchbag. I was lucky...I got $600. But guess where it went? Not to buy TV's or a car...more like 3 weeks of groceries and 3 tankfuls of gas. WHOOOPEE!

I'm willing to bet that Obama really doesn't care about the people in the flooding incident but rather just doing this to get more votes.
And McCain simply isn't helping (And I bet he would for the same reason) because he's fucking 72 years old for Christ's sake.
rex3453 3 years ago
Well, that's exactly what we need: a president who's too old and fragile to get involved and do anything.

I'm glad you asked. Just for starters:
As an Illinois Senator he passed over 200 of the bills he wrote. These bills include:

You haters are so cynical. It's not about Tv time. You are someone's miracle so be a Blessing- not a complainer or whiner. What did you do? Did you help, pray or speak a word of encouragment or do you whine and be cynical? Choose a better method or stay negative- you only hurt yourself!!!!

what a guy
MasonMsotsos 3 years ago 2
what a guy for what??? Getting in some tv time PR...if he really wanted to help he can give some of his money to hire people for that work. Giving them a temp means of money plus helping the community. He shows up with the press wearing a long sleeve shirt .. guess is jacket and tie is in the car
elenora8 3 years ago
"if he really wanted to help he can give some of his money to hire people for that work."
And how do you know he didn't?
p00lman 3 years ago
Because he said his hearts go out to the people and he would sure take the time or his staff to tell the voters he gave money..thats bigger PR than him putting sand into a bag
elenora8 3 years ago
Huh?
p00lman 3 years ago
No, if any politican wanted to really help these people, they would be out there doing hard work with them. OH, wait, Obama was already doing that! Either way you look at it, he showed he isn't afraid to get dirty to get the job done, and I think that would apply in more ways than one.
Well, I would think he showed up knowing he was going to be doing some work. Who do you ever see doing manual labor work wearing a jacket and tie?
skylarportland 3 years ago
Yeah his long sleeve shirt is obvious but it really looks good when you take time to roll those sleeves up and get dirty. Not afraid to get dirty I wonder how many scoops he did maybe 10 mins of PR
elenora8 3 years ago
Like I mentioned in one of my previous posts on this video, I read it was something like 5 shovel fills of sand, but seen 3 myself in different videos ( that weren't the same because of the conversation taking place. )
If it had been me though, I would have wanted to use a different set of clothes before standing in that sand and shoveling it ( who knows what waste has been mixed with that sand, unfortunately? ) which may explain why he decided to do that on a spur-of-the-moment thing.
skylarportland 3 years ago
A true leader leads by example.
Obama couldn't have shown a better example than showing he is willing to do some of this hard work too to clean something up ( aka, can we say "Iraq"? )
skylarportland 3 years ago
he took time off his President Campaign to shovel sand> Dont you think he could have taken a day off the primary to have an oversight hearing on Afgan since he was the chairman..NO he could not and not one oversight hearing went on during the 15 months while they still were having ppl killed in Afgan...Isnt that what a leader should do
elenora8 3 years ago
True, I'll say you have a point there.
Unfortunately, he isn't the official leader of this country yet, Bush is. Did you notice how Bush made sure he didn't quickly get back to the US from his European vacation ( vacation because he accomplished nothing by being in Europe except piss off England and Iran--where he wants to SANCTION their oil?!? further against us ) where he's expected to meet with the flood volunteers tomorrow or Thurs? and Bush is a leader?!?
skylarportland 3 years ago
Well Bush's days are numbered...he will be gone soon and John McCain is his own man not a Bush...as Obama is not a Carter
elenora8 3 years ago
Thank God for the first part of your response.
McCain should have never accepted Bush's endorsement--that will haunt him in November.
People will tie McCain to Iraq--that he promises to continue ( a 70% disapproval rating in the US ) and that will kill his chances.
Don't know where people compare Obama to Carter? Obama is closer to JFK than he is to Carter.
skylarportland 3 years ago
McCain has already started the talk about Obama running as Carters second term but did not catch what he was refering to unless the entire 4 yrs in general.McCain will also use the surge as working and no attacks in the us since 9/11 whether we agree with that or not ppl like to hear it
elenora8 3 years ago
Ok, now I know what your're referring to about Obama and Carter. Thing is--the scenario's are different. When Carter was president, there was a gas shortage.
I haven't heard of large #'s of gas stations closing down because they have no gas in recent memory.
True, no 9/11 attacks McCain will use, but then Obama will bring up those are the people that attacked us and not Iraq, and that is why we need to re-deploy our troops to Afghanistan, not Iraq.
skylarportland 3 years ago
The stations are not closed but soon the ppl will not be able to go..problem is the ones that did 9/11 are NOW in Iraq also they are in two places Some additional troops have been sent to afgan
elenora8 3 years ago
Yes, exactly. People won't be able to go because they won't be able to afford it, and that will cause people to riot and fight over a few tanks of gas before it would get better. Attacking Iran will only speed this process up.
skylarportland 3 years ago
no riots yet but may not be long..they are already driving away from pumps not paying and then siphing gas on the rise..ripping off gas station its only the beginning
elenora8 3 years ago
Attacking?..... Bush already said he made a mistake going to Iraq now it's Iran haha this country is gonna die
DensityThroughLife 3 years ago
and if Bush ( or McCain is the next "leader" ) , and is successful with sanctioning Iran's oil and gas, you know what will happen don't you? ( or if McCain like he promises, to do the same thing! )
You think gas at $4.20 something is expensive--$7 or $10/gal gas will be a reality REAL DAMN QUICK! Can you afford to pay for gas to get to/from work and the cost of food that will rise with it? I sure as hell can't.
Obama might not be the best candidate to run, but at least there is hope,
skylarportland 3 years ago
who ever becomes president there is hope for the future of the US..we sure do not vote someone into office no matter who they are without a feeling of hope and that they will do the right thing
elenora8 3 years ago
I agree--but there is no hope if McCain is in office. I think if I were a republican, I would feel even stronger about that.
McCain isn't a republican when he don't want to conserve anything--he wants to spend more $ in Iraq, then Iran, and more to come, and squeeze the hell out of the middle class--we don't need that anymore.
skylarportland 3 years ago
( continued )
and with McCain what hope is there of anything--anything at all--getting better ?
He wants to stay in Iraq = fuel costs continuously rise, and though I am not positive Obama will end this illegal invasion, if he manages to do it, that will be a HUGE plus on his side for cleaning up Bush's irresponsible mess that has become the biggest foreign policy disaster in US history.
skylarportland 3 years ago
McCain in now for off shore drilling and will leave it up to the statew however most americans favor that..both want to stop illegal immigration but no one can do it without congress..he said stay in Iraq IF NO INJURIES OR DEATH...if that keeps up in a civil war we will not be there..McCain is for 4 yrs only and brings experience yes experience and I believe we need exeperience
elenora8 3 years ago
No injuries or death? We have soldiers ( and US civilians ) getting killed or hurt everyday right now. That doesn't include innocent Iraqi's.
Look what happened when it comes to experience the last 7 yrs. Bush had a LOT of experience, and looked what happened. Nixon had a lot of experience before he was president too and look what happened there.
JFK had little experience, Bill Clinton had only 8 yrs as Ark. Governor--neither of them did a bad job ( Clinton actually ran as a republican. )
skylarportland 3 years ago
yes i know killing everyday but he was refering to 100yrs .. he meant to maintain a present in that country but only if there was no fighting. I think Bill was there 12yrs I think
elenora8 3 years ago
LOL about Nixon. I am actually hoping Obama picks Clarke as his VP because that will draw even more military personnel to his side than he has now.
Yes, Obama seems to be picking some of Clinton's people, but he has maintained very good judgement on his decisions he's made over his professional career.
McCain scares the hell out of me because we need someone to take control of our budget and use it wisely ( like fixing the levees on the Mississippi now, in addition to New Orleans, etc )
skylarportland 3 years ago
he has made bad decisions and his character is more in question than his policies: His association with the church and pastor wright, Ayes, Pfleger who gave him money for his senate race and Obama put an earmark to secure $100,000 for his St Sabina church; Rezco who Obama lawyered for and gave thousands for his campaign and this slum landlord turned the heat off in the building he owned. He would not renouce both ministers until it started to hurt his campain as wright said he will say anything
elenora8 3 years ago
I'll admit Wright, Rezco won't help him, but McCain's affiliation are with Bush and Hagee ( who said the people of New Orleans deserved Katrina's destruction--such a thoughtful thing to say. )
I think Bush and Hagee will harm McCain more than Obama's with Wright and Rezco will be.
Funny when Pat Buchanan and even Glen Frye ( both staunch republicans ) said they'll never vote for McCain because McCain is "nuts" and "wacko".
Hell, Buchanan said McCain is not even a conservative.
skylarportland 3 years ago
Hagee a priest that endorsed McCain and McCain withdrew his support..he was not his personal pastor of 20 yrs njjust a priest and far as association with Bush Bush is president everyone senators had an association with him
elenora8 3 years ago
True, but McCain isn't withdrawing Bush's support. Why won't he dismiss Bush?
Not all senators support Bush; and I wouldn't doubt that less than a third support him now.

he helped out like any normal human being would if they were visiting a site like that. obama's background is as a community organiser, you don't dedicate yourself to that kind of thankless work for any reason other than a strong sense of...community. which means respect and consideration for your fellow man.
i wonder why george bush and dick cheney aren't there helping. why didn't they help new orleans. they don't care, they're not normal humans. there's something wrong with them.
Obama 08!

Any normal human being doesn't have a media circus following them along with tight security, dumbass. You don't think they get in the way? Of course they do.
ronpaul2016 3 years ago
Do you think John McCain gets any less press these days? It works both ways.
p00lman 3 years ago 2
Yes, any politician is going to have tight security with them all the time. I do agree with you on the media circus point of view though, especially as big as Obama is this election year.
Their security will not however get in the way of the politician--that will usually get them removed from that protection detail, so they know the candidate beforehand ( as far as their personality with the public, where they like to move, how long they stop to talk--all of that. )
skylarportland 3 years ago
I'm sorry they weren't there... They've been busy protecting us from you know.... terrorism. They don't have time with the photo ops... I understand where your coming from though, Obama has a campaign to run. Thats very important, very important.... Next! NoBama08... Damn thats sexy!
femmebott 3 years ago
That's why Bush couldn't visit New Orleans during Katrina - because of terrorism? That's why he took so many vacations during his first term? Really? Is that how it works?
p00lman 3 years ago 2
Bush and McCain protecting us from you know...terrorism?! How is pissing all these other nations off, by invading them based on lies knew beforehand, against us protecting us?
Why don't Bush and McCain try to prevent an invasion of Iran before trying to find just any little reason to attack them? Think gas is expensive now?!--watch what happens if the US attacks Iran. OMG........
skylarportland 3 years ago
Yes, Bush, Cheney ( or McCain--since we're basically referring to the same individual ), are all sociopaths, and that is why they don't care.

skylarportland 3 years ago
Of course, if he were already President the floods would not have even happened. There would be peace among men and tranquility in nature. The mountains would be laid low and the seas would be calmed. Hunger and poverty would be distant memories. The need for fossil fuels would be eliminated.
A new age would be born, one in which mankind would finally realize its ultimate potential. The need for individual freedoms would end because He, Barack Hussein Obama would inspire us to give all to him.

Hey, Id rather a candidate take a photo op at a flood site, than not even being there at all. or better yet: sending out an automated response from washington like John Mccain did.
there is no reaosn to hate on Obama for this, Yes this was probabaly completely staged, but the mere fact that he was out there, and spoke to those people showed that he cared.
rossi831 3 years ago 2
Thank you. Someone else that gets it.
How personal for McCain to send an automated response. I'll bet the flood victims must be touched by that.
skylarportland 3 years ago
Right on Rossi. You're smarter than a couple on this comment page. Kudo's to Obama...which he didn't have to do. He could of been like McCain...and say "sorry". But ALL the ones that was helping fill sandbags whether it be one or two...or fifty or hundred, still does good.
teka2u 3 years ago
Exactly! The thought counted, and I am sure in these people's eyes, will count a lot.
If Obama just stood there and spoke to the press, that would have been different, but he showed he is willing to work to get something done that benefits all those affected by a tragedy.
I'm sure that McCain's camp was kicking themselves when they got wind of this.
skylarportland 3 years ago
Even the others that was there helping, deserves just as much praise as Obama, they all did their job. Like I said before, McCain wasn't there, nor was Bush, nor was Ron Paul. Ooops thats right, Ron Paul dropped out...so he doesn't need a photo op. Much less don't give a hoot for the unfortunate ones.
teka2u 3 years ago 2
Fuck all three of those guys for having a photo op like this. Oh yeah, just Obama did it. And boy did it work on his mindless cult who thinks he is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
ronpaul2016 3 years ago
I don't think you've gotten your narrow point across yet. Please, rant and curse further, it will surely change people's minds.
p00lman 3 years ago 2
Not sure about the others, but I never have stated he is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but out of Obama, McCain and Bob Barr LOL, Obama is surely the best of those that are running for President.
skylarportland 3 years ago
By the way, I was in the military and know how to fill sandbags. Obama is slow as fuck. I'd have gotten smoked in a second if a drill sergeant saw me doing that in basic training. Later, I'd be called a "shammer" and would be yelled at for slacking that way. Plus, usually the faster you fill the bags, the faster you are done. In this case, the more bags the faster the safer what you are trying to protect is.
This is a ridiculous photo op that a bunch of Obama fans are gushing over. Sad.
ronpaul2016 3 years ago
Whoopie Doo...goodie for you. You know how to fill up sandbags while you was in the military. A 3 yr. old knows how to fill up sandbags. This video is about "helping" in ANY way. I don't see McCain or Bush anywhere around...do you??? So do you get it??!!! This is not about gushing.....this is helping. Whether slow or fast, its the "THOUGHT" that counts!
teka2u 3 years ago 2
How did he help ? did he donate Money Out of All The Leftist Groups Millions in his back pocket? Filled a few Bags WOHOO < Your come back will be how do I know I wasn't There ! So I'll beat ya . Im disabled But if I had resorces I would .
jimbobbarley 3 years ago
Well, whether you agree with his "leftist" views or not, he has the popularity of a rock star. He's not my first choice for president, but I have no problem backing up someone who is willing to do some hard work to get something accomplished that helps a community.
When Obama's hard followers see him leading by example as he did here, they will surely be donating to the families hit hard by the midwest flooding.
skylarportland 3 years ago
Congrads to you for having the knowledge to fill a sandbag. That alone is a sad statement you even brought up.
Was Obama being ordered to do this like in the military? I didn't see if it he was, and you are right about one thing--true he wasn't moving fast, but he was answering questions from the press, but he at least rolled up his sleeves and was doing manual labor ( in his dress slacks as well )
So, he isn't afraid to get dirty to get something done.
skylarportland 3 years ago 2
Do you really think Obama or any political official is there to do manual labor? Really?
I know you have this whole conspiracy theory that they're selfishly cashing in on a photo op, but you need to realize that people are inspired when a tragedy hits and the nation's leaders recognize their suffering, as opposed to feeling abandoned like they did after Katrina.
p00lman 3 years ago
No. This is a bunch of Obamatards following their "dear leader" crying that Obama is giving them home instead of recognizing this as the simple photo op it is...designed to sucker people. Consider yourself a chupa-chup.
ronpaul2016 3 years ago
I don't think anyone has denied that this was used as a photo op. But you are ONLY looking at it as such and missing the broader point, since you're determined to spin this in the worst way possible.
If all Obama wants is photo ops, what was he doing the day before? The week before? How many other tragedies has he, as you probably see it, "exploited" to get on camera? You have no basis for your accusations and overlook the purpose of his visit.
p00lman 3 years ago
You obviously are a clueless douchebag. You are so smitten by Obama that you'd suck his dick if he asked you to.
ronpaul2016 3 years ago
Oh really? Well, now I'm certainly convinced!
p00lman 3 years ago 2
You mean like the way McCain would if Obama promised to put him on the ticket?
skylarportland 3 years ago
Thank you.
If Katrina occurred under Obama or McCain you can see how issues would have been handled.
I didn't expect Bush to be retrieving bodies out of homes or in the streets, but to wait THREE days ( and that is a LONG time to be living in waste-filled water ) before sending or doing ANYTHING to help--that was Bush's action that really topped it off for me for him, and his WHOLE thing with debating Kerry was saying that Kerry wasn't a leader, and look how Bush led just 8 months later.
skylarportland 3 years ago 2
It great that Obama is there rolling his sleeve's up and putting a spot lite on this tragedy.

Judging from people in Iowa that were affected by these floods, that means quite a bit to them, even if it did take only a half hour or so out of his day to do. Whether he does or not, it at least gives the impression that Obama cares about these people.

I hope on 1-20-09, Obama tells Bush he's got 10 min to get his shit outta there, and not let the door hit him on the ass on the way!
skylarportland 3 years ago
and no, Bush vetos all their shit, because Bush is vetoing the will of the American public now because he don't give a shit about the public's view now--he's down to about 215 days ( unless he invades Iran and declares martial law--which knowing him, wouldn't put it past him to do that ).

I think it is great that he did that! I am sure that Mccain would have been there to-

McCain was too busy "standing Ready to help" instead of actually going there to help.

oh come on now...the guy is old. I don´t know anything about his medical conditions but i can´t see him doing this, i think he would if he could. To be fair, he did his share in vietnam. Leave the guy alone. Lets not act as disgraceful as the GOPs.
justcallmesoso 3 years ago
True, but McCain could have sent one of his kids or grandkids there to do it. He obviously didn't because the press would have been all over that.
skylarportland 3 years ago 2

This comment has received too many negative votes show
were you there?-How many bags did Obama fill?
Bigone5555J 3 years ago
I don't know...why don't you tell me. One thing that we BOTH do know is that he was there. To bad we can't say the same thing for Bush and McCain.
UGOTDAJACK 3 years ago 2
yeah, dropping half the dirt on the ground next to the bag. Anything for a photo op. Just like Rev. Wright said-he will say and do anything to get elected. He has the election all sown up. So you can just stay home and watch him win.
Bigone5555J 3 years ago
well, if he didnt do anything, you would say "he doesn't care" now that he actually did something you are saying its politics. Obviously, you can't please everyone.
newdayo 3 years ago
Even if it was only one, that's one more than they had before?
And how many bags has Bush, Cheney and John McSame filled?
Zero?
All aboard the fail train, Bigone. Join your idol, the Chimp, with your one way ticket to Hell.
cathouse1979 3 years ago 5
Of what I read on an AP article, it said 5, but in the videos I have seen, I've seen him fill at least two.
Whatever the actual amount is, it is more than McCain or Bush have attempted to do.
skylarportland 3 years ago 4
Sometimes you have to not be a moronic libtard and realize that the media hoopla and security around Obama probably caused less sandbags to be filled. Obama would be best off getting a no-name staffer to join the effort in his name. Instead, he does a photo op so morons like you fall for it.
ronpaul2016 3 years ago
No, you are wrong again. I said earlier in one of my previous comments if you bothered to look, admit he did it for a photo op ( any politician, INCLUDING Ron Paul would ) have done the same if they could, but Obama did some physical work to help get a community rebuilding. When was the last time a politician ( outside of John Edwards in N.O. ) did that?
The photo op is precisely the point of a photo op--for name recognition. Who the hell is going to care if a "no-name staffer" did in his name?

So when Bush avoided Katrina for a few days, he was doing so to try to help the relief effort? Really? Is that how it works?
p00lman 3 years ago
When was the last time Bush did something that benefited ANYONE outside of the top 2% of income earners in this country?
skylarportland 3 years ago 2
The tax rebate checks that just got sent out a few months ago, dumbass.
You obviously are a clueless douchebag left wing piece of shit. I don't like Bush, but I'm not a fucking dumbass such as yourself.
ronpaul2016 3 years ago
And you're calling me a fucking dumbass? Most of those tax rebate checks that got sent out a few months ago are going to put food on the table and pay for a few tanks ( or for some, a couple tanks ) of gas. Both food and gas have gone up exponentially, that the rebate tax checks are almost invisible, and to those that don't earn much, they are.
So, for those that didn't earn that much last year because they're working minimum wage jobs, etc. how much do you think they got? Next to nothing!
skylarportland 3 years ago 2
Lastly, if your right-wing thug had a clue at all yourself, you'd know that wasn't just Bush that decided on the tax rebate checks, it was Congress as well.
skylarportland 3 years ago 2
Ronpaul....Practice what you preach. You think the stimulus checks was big??? If you do...you're the f*ing dumb douchbag. I was lucky...I got $600. But guess where it went? Not to buy TV's or a car...more like 3 weeks of groceries and 3 tankfuls of gas. WHOOOPEE!
teka2u 3 years ago 2
You're the clueless one ronpaulie... its tax stimulus checks.....Not tax rebate...dumbass.
