I've got nothing against Neil, but he's just too awkward for me to watch. I have a problem with being embarrassed for other people when I feel like they're making fools of themselves. I know it's just an act, but still.
So be VOCAL, that is invited. Mindlessly yelling senseless shit over his set ups and punch lines is NEVER part of the show. I know this because we spoke at length about this particular incident. and it's also just common sense. He cut the show short because of it. don't be dumb. Let every one enjoy Neil.
Neil's act wouldn't work without heckling but it's deliberate heckling, within moments you know when to heckle and when not to. His act is based on that dynamic, but there's a difference between participating in that and talking over the bits he needs your quiet for. I saw him live and people just... knew.. it was immense. Part of a music festival and the favorite part for several of the acts playing.
Having said that, he is by far the best entertainer at dealing with hecklers I have EVER seen. Partially because he gets so much practice. A couple weeks after this show I witnessed him work a cheering and booing crowd of 2 thousand people. They were yelling stuff but as soon as he opened his mouth for another gem they shut up. He had them eating out of his hand. Truly inspirational.
I opened for Neil this night and although his act may invite hecklers if you think he likes it you're insane. He has material and timing like every other comic. The challenge is that when he started out it was "Bad" jokes but his act has evolved so much past that. A bunch of his albums have strategical placed heckles but that doesn't mean he loves it when drunk idiots won't stop screaming over his delivery
You are all missing the point. Neil invites hecklers. He doesn't care if you get pissed off. He does pretty much the same routine on hecklers wherever he goes. Its part of the show.
jeez guy, when i said crazy, i didn't mean bad. People always take things as an insult. I like british english, and i study archaic pronunciations. I'm not six years old either. What the hell is wrong with spelling it TIRE. It is indeed used on tires. Ill bet if we asked neil, he would spell it tire.
Fact remains though the correct spelling is 'tyre'. Just like 'tonight' for example. I don't want to react like every other internet user and fly off the handle at a simple comment but I would've thought you could see how it's insulting when people take your mother tongue and start insisting incorrect American spellings are somehow the international standard. There's nothing archaic about 'tyre', it's the original word which is still the correct one!
Fine Dandy. I assume you were talking about people spelling tonight like tonite. I hate it when people do that. I wasnt suggesting tyre was archaic either.
hahaha!considering it was a brit that invented the "tyre" we can spell it how we like! oh yes and we invented english too by the way? o' and tv, penicillin, tarmac and most other important inventions you have ever needed in youre life!lol
penicillin wasn't invented, it was discovered, not by an english, but by a scott. It was developed as a medicine by an Australian. Nobody even uses tarmac, which was also pioneered by a scott. The first completely electronic television, was invented by Philo Farnsworth. Anything before that cannot really be considered a television, as they could not readily transmit input data. At any rate Farnsworth was an AMERICAN. England invented bad food.
Neil Hamburger is an absolute legend. He can work a crowd like no other comedian and that's tough, becuase his material is mostly "anti-comedy". Keep it up Neil and don't give those celebrities a break.
@chasturner2 Hey i liked how you mentioned that his material is "anti-comedy" because it shows you have a grasp of what he's about. Heaven forbid that youtube would think you don't understand Neil Hamburger.
@bingefeller LMAO. Yes, point out these pseudo-intellectuals and hold them up to ridicule. It;s a sure fire way to cement your status as truly truly smart amongst this crowd.
When I saw Neil/Gregg in Providence, RI a few nights ago, he was a very kind and friendly person the second he stepped off stage. He was selling his own merchandise and autographed a poster of mine! How noble. And pathetic. But that's why we love old Neil!
Wow, this is great. Who thought that Hamburger actually could be funny. With the movie "Heckler" coming out, maybe everyone will at last forgive Michael Richards, eh?
There's definitely something there. Not necessarily originality...Foster Brooks did this schtick forty years ago. But Hamburger/Turkington is talented, no question.
I cant fully enjoy Neil Hamburger because im vegetarian
