  • Can you do mint nanimo bars? I am from canada aswell but the mint ones are my favrioute

  • your amazing! I

m 17 and I randomly found your channel, and its only been a few hours and I've already watched SO many of your videos! I hope to do a lot of thse ont he weekend when im not cramed with school work:P

  • @coffeebeans89 Happy you found my channel :) Good luck with the school work

  • well i dont think america has them

  • Does it affect the taste or the way it tuns out if you don't use coconuts?

  • @ugtbohgj Traditional bars have the coconut, probably be okay without though

  • @yoyomax12 Thanks! I can't get over the taste of coconut. Would I have to substitute anything else in its place do you think?

  • @ugtbohgj You would need to replace it with something, it is a whole cup and makes up a fairly big proportion, maybe an extra cup of the graham crumbs?

  • Could you also score the chocolate, freeze it, then just crack them apart? Or would that not work as well as I imagine?

  • @OrangeSunshynEmbrace Could work if you score them deep enough,

  • Oh I am glad to be Canadian!

  • LADYSMITH? Haha my aunt lives there :P

  • Being originally from British Columbia, I love Nanaimo Bars, but so many of my friends hate it.

  • I thought this was a Japanese dessert for the longest time. Haha!

  • Im from British Columbia and i`ve never had an nanaimo bar before .. :$

  • does baking kind of run through your family or something

  • @LatteSmocha Not really, baking is just something I enjoy, and my relatives and family like to eat it

  • they look kind of like your dates pastry thing

  • oh nanaimo kind of sounds japanese...oh well. wherever they come from, who cares? theyre awesome!!!

  • i love these bars

  • as a canadian, i agree that is super tasty (:

  • Chrisarchieprods.

  • i hate coconut and walnut. can i try something else

  • @Brandoleo1 Mint and chocolate? Maybe with your favorites nuts shredded

  • oh my God i want to try this soooo bad!!! but i bet if i make them they won't be as pretty lol

  • The only kind I've every had had mint in it. Hmm. Interesting.

  • I've tried doing it. It came out quite tasty but the bottom layer seem to always crumble and not keep together (Only did the recipe twice though) I wonder if I might be doing something wrong or if I could do anything so i could perhaps make the bottom layer more "chewy"... because I would very much like it that way?

  • I have made like 2/3rds of the stuff on your channel, been very satisfied with them all, thank you so much.

  • So. Much. Butter.

  • Thank you so much, Yoyomax! I'm in the process of making these for my best friend's birthday. He's wanted some for ages but couldn't find anyone to make them for him (we live across the country from one another).

  • Yum but about how long does the third layer go in the fridge for?????

  • @SuperRandomwebd About 45 to an hour

  • wow!

  • I made these in school today :D

  • is that 1/2 cup of butter for the 1st layer?

  • I tried this and its good! It tastes even better with nuts in it! Love it!

  • I had a bit of a problem with the top layer, I used semisweet chocolate chips and unsalted butter but it was too thick. I added about 2 table spoons of milk or cream to get it to the right sauce-like consistency. :) It worked perfectly.

  • @coralcay222 Glad you found a solution to your top layer issue. Aren't they worth all that work? :)

  • I notice there a saucer at the bottom of the pot, it is neccessary?

  • @AnimeSisterForever Can you give me a time reference on the video? I don't know what you mean.

  • @yoyomax12 at 1:32-156! Under the pot :o

  • @AnimeSisterForever There is a piece of aluminum foil under the stove element to catch spills and bits of food that fall from cooking pots. All the elements have them on my stove. It has nothing to do with the cooking of the recipe.

  • @AnimeSisterForever 1:24 :) There something underneath the pot.

  • nanaimo are my all time FAVOURITE dessert and i cant believe i never looked up how to make it :O

  • @123playmate321 They are a bit time consuming to make, but sooooo good!

  • @yoyomax12 time is not an issue when nanaimo bars are the subject :O :D

by the way, i made your buttercream recipe and its sooo good! but as soon as i added milk i didnt like the consistency ahah... is the milk necessary?

  • @123playmate321 You can use water instead

  • @yoyomax12 ohh ok thank you! i love your channel :)

  • this looks...i cant even find the words to describe how good these look. i wish i was canadian but unfortunately im australian, however I will definitely be trying to make these! I've spent all night watching your videos and I love them! :)

  • @ShannyShmeltJones I think any nationality will enjoy these, they are really good

  • omg im like dying here, someone make this for me!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kajenforever1 lol! Thanks for watching

  • I've noticed you like vanilla a lot, you use it in almost every recipe! :D

  • @ItsJuuulBitches Pretty much every single baking recipe out there asks for vanilla, just following the recipes.

  • I love your living room -w-

  • @xCillaKiwiix Thank-you! :)

  • Can you make this without the coconut, and add more nuts"?

  • @rekiepimie yes

  • What is semi-sweet chocolade?

  • @Cecilie1590 It is chocolate that is exactly what it sounds like "semi-sweet" meaning it is not as sweet as regular chocolate (less sugar in the chocolate) It tastes a lot like dark chocolate as opposed to milk chocolate

  • @yoyomax12 Thanks!:-D

  • I'm going to bring this into class when we have a French or Multicultural party. :) (Our teacher speaks Canadian french, so he likes us to bring in food that is also from Canada; My magnet program focuses on international cultures)

  • @coralcay222 People will love these! Thanks for watching

  • WOOH!!! BC, BITCHES!!!

  • Could you substitute Splenda for the sugar in these? Do you think it would mess up the baking process? I'm trying to watch my calories, etc but would LOVE to make these.....

  • @doberdawgs4me I think you could substitute splenda in these

  • Seems nice, I will definitely make these. It has some calories I guess, though ...

  • @morbels A few calories, yes :)

  • Could I use peanuts instead? I hate most nuts. But I'm just gonna leave out coconut

  • @thegodsofolympus100 Yes you could use peanuts

  • @chezitgleeks24 This dessert is a bit more difficult than some, but with a bit of help from an adult I think you will be fine. Let me know how it turns out :)

  • Are you using unsalted butter?

  • @attemptingtobehumble I used salted butter, but you can you the unsalted and it will be just as good

  • can i not add nuts

  • @lillianaly yes

  • can i not add coconuts?

  • @EllyKSaysHi There is coconut in the recipe for the crust, do you mean coconut in the rest of it? Sure you can add more coconut if you want.

  • @yoyomax12 I mean, may i use anything to substitute for the coconuts?

  • @EllyKSaysHi Sorry, I misread your comment! Yes you can leave out the coconut.

  • @yoyomax12 Thank you! :) keep up the good work ~^.^~

  • Alot harder...since i really messed up on teh bowl size and i had to switch like 5 bowls, LOL!

  • @DkWowN3rd Bowl size is hard to figure out some times, I still mess that up and have to change to a bigger bowl every once and a while

  • these look fantastic are they low kilojoule ? i think if qewtypants uses something like NICE biscuit or arrowroot biscuits they should be a good subsitute

  • @sooouuuuper They are high in calories, to be eaten in moderation

  • @sooouuuuper have u tried chocolate crackles they are really yummy and kids love them and grown ups too

copha is a type of shortening used in australia it is made from coconut ty again for the lovely recipes and the great fantastic craft

  • Thank god for these recipes, I thought Canadians had a similar cooking style to americans but it's nowhere near as lazy, I hate the way everything Is mis-labeled and most recipes are half done for you (pre-made sauces etc) haha

  • @iNsomniacGamingVids I have quite a few recipes that use mixes etc. I agree with you though there are a lot of (too much) pre-package processed foods.

  • I just made these and they were DELICIOUS. Thank you so much for the recipe.

  • @cooknfan11 You are welcome, thanks for letting me know you tried these

  • @cooknfan11 You are welcome, thanks for letting me know you tried these

  • Hi - my husband is a Canadian (Im an Aussie and we live in Australia) and I would love to make these for him ! Any idea what I can substitute for Graham crackers? We don't have them here. Are they sweet dry biscuits? Many thanks and warm wishes from Aus :)

  • @qewtypants They are exactly that, a mildly sweet dry biscuit. You could substitute any mildly sweet dry biscuit, like a digestive biscuit (do you have those?)

  • Comment removed

  • I made these a few days ago. Super delicious and so easy to make. I didn't know they originated in Canada, thats cool! ( I'am Canadian!!). Will definitely make these again. Thanks Yoyomax12 for all your recipes.

  • @honeybell33 Nice to meet a fellow Canadian here! Glad you enjoyed the recipe.

  • Ahhhh so that's how you make them, my friend is half canadian and really loves these. At least now I know the reason I don't like them is because of all the coconut and nuts

  • @finding13emo Yep, you really need to like nuts and coconut to enjoy these :)

  • can i substitute chocolate chips instead of coconut? and m&m's instead of nuts? i'm allergic in coconut and nuts.

  • @lazygurl22 You can substitute anything you want, but they won't taste like Nanaimo bars.

  • I love Nanaimo bars. These are second only to brownies in popularity at bake sales...

  • @shmuli9 I agree, they are a favourite of many

  • I made them today! :D

they didn't taste as good as the real ones, because danish ingredients suck! xD

  • @AdoptMeToo Heh - although technically "vollkornkeks" are the same as "graham crackers", they make AWFUL pie crusts, whereas North American graham crackers make very GOOD pie crusts. Some recipes don't work well in other countries. On the other hand, it's often hard for North Americans to make certain Danish foods...

  • @shmuli9 why 'vollkornkeks'?! O_o isn't that like german or something?! and how did you come in on pie crusts?!

yup, cus we have tard food xD

  • @AdoptMeToo Yes, it's German. I only mentioned it because a friend of mine in Germany had pretty much the same experience as you, except with trying to use digestive biscuits instead of graham crackers...

Heh... :-) Danish food, though rather bland (apart from curries) DOES have a few particularly good foods, like bacon, crisp, thin cakes, and the like. But in general, I'd have to agree with you...

  • @shmuli9 AAAAH! in that way! xD

haha! xD guess it (the food) has a few ups xD

  • In Duluth Minnesota they are called "prayer bars". Don't know how they came to be called that here, but they are delicious!!

  • i love your kettle :)

  • Greetings from the states! A wierd question. What kind of cookware is that your using? The first pan that you used on the stove? Those bars look fantastic.

  • @acrttdriver I had to go to the kitchen to look at the pot, the brand is "Meyer". They are nothing fancy, they were bought at a department store and have glass lids.

  • @yoyomax12 Thanks for the reply. The pan looked similar to ones my mother had years ago. I think hers were from an old Duncan Hines set from many years ago. Thanks again for looking for me.....:)

  • Ha I'm from Cowichan Bay (an hour away from Nanaimo) and I had no clue 'Naniamo bars' originated there! I thought it was just a coincidence with the name. Thanks for the fun fact, and thanks for this recipe! It's a lot easier then I thought it would be!

  • @travisemily12 They seem complicated when you look at them because of the layers. They are delicious!

  • warming the knife! ahhh I never thought to do that! thank you :D

  • @decafeine They cut so much easier that way! They hardly "squish" at all.

  • @hotdog1997 Chocolate chips are cheaper than the squares of baking chocolate, but either will do for most recipes.

  • @hotdog1997 You can use regular baking chocolate (in large pieces) and just melt it like you would the chips. You'll need to google how many ounces or mg are in two cups.

  • @farhan1666 Leave the nuts out, use more crumbs.

  • YEAH!! GO CANADA!! I'm from Quebec!!!!!

  • @JaniceMaiden666 WOOT!!!!

  • Hi, we dont have Graham Crackers over in the UK. Do you know what we could use as an alternative?

  • @gingersnapssg You could use any kind of dry biscuit type cookie I think.

  • @gingersnapssg

i think digestives are the best alternative, like cheesecake

  • Wow, I'm going to have to try making the middle layer as you illustrated here. My mom's recipe calls for making the middle layer in a double boiler but it comes out more as a liquid than a creme. I've even managed to adapt the recipe to make it completely sugar free but still comes out amazing and is often my most highly requested dessert. But I find my American friends find the Peanut Butter variation to be more to their liking than the original which is my favorite.

  • @RoxABBA The peanut butter variation is very good. I also like the amaretto liqueur filling as well.

  • WOW beautiful can't wait to make them ! Thank You so Much

  • @reenester Thanks! You will love them.

  • @MACwishin2 These are a very special dessert, they look nice and taste better.

  • @DogWalkingTall I did taste each step, I just didn't film it, lol.

  • Where is Max, I miss his jokes so much. I used to share them with my long distance friends and they love them. Please bring Max back! BTW love this dessert!

  • @modelchickny Max will be back soon! Were out of jokes, have to tape some new ones with him soon.

  • OMG, these look soooo yummy! and pretty! I have to try this. yumyumyum

  • @kayeruizx3 They are a pretty bar and tasty too.

  • How could anyone possibly NOT like such a flagrantly sinful thing as this? They look fantastic. Do they keep well? As in, if I make a batch I don't have to eat the whole thing in two days?

  • @anmoose If you keep them in the fridge, they will last a while, they also freeze very nicely.

  • @yoyomax12,

This is good to know. I'm not big on candies, cookies, and sweets in general, but I do like to sin occasionally, especially with something this tempting. But I might have two or three, then not have any interest again for a week or two. Hence I hesitate to make them because they'll be garbage before I could finish them. When the word "freeze" enters the picture, these suddenly become my kind of treat.

  • they are pretty! I'll have to try those sometime. I bet they would make great holiday gifts!

  • OH MY GOSH! I miss Nanaimo bars!!! I totally got addicted to them when I lived in BC! Always amazed me because I don't like coconut at all, but OMG there is nothing like Nanaimo bars!

    Hugs!

  • @AmethystButterflyGrl You don't taste the coconut that much in these, lots of other flavours to balance it out

  • oh they looked great.

Max must be to old now to make us laugh. lol no joke. miss ya Max.

  • @mommunson I will have to get him to sit down and tell a few jokes that I can tape and use later, we are working on it. :)
