Rarely will English versions of songs translate exactly from their original meanings. They have to change the words so they fit to the music while still trying to capture the same feeling. It's very hard!

non ur french is good mon ami. But in this version Simon is saying the flowers r in love wit the water of the great seas, but they r stuck in the vast Desert thus they mourn for their sea. Don't worry songs often change according to which language it is. Either way you look at it wenever you trnaslation songs or poetry you have to either go for the exact match or wat fits...
