Large Scale Hydroelectric dams are a complete high modern myth, especially in rainforest ecosystems such as the Xingu River. Any increased sediment in the water (which could well occur due to logging and land clearing) would increase turbine friction and render the dam's shelflife uneconomically small. For a comparison see the Bakun Megaproject on the Rejang River, Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo.
