  • I would have wet my pants had I been there. And I'm 63.

  • I was reading all the comments didnt know chet atkins had passed away I love this preformances goes to show its all improvise everyone is showing what each one can do with there own guitars may I also add that goes to show each one has there own unique style great video thanks, for posting R I P chet I didnt know :(

  • Two kinds of music here: The music that they're making, for the listener, and the music on their faces as they appreciate each other in a way that most listeners can't even begin to imagine.

  • Awesome----------------!

  • all so different, all cool. lov dat smile on alberts face as james plays

  • chet was the Master indeed

  • Chet Atkins was one of only a couple of gutiar players who could play two songs at the exact same time! And he found a couple of different sets of songs that he could do this with. One pair, I remember hearing him play, was Yankee Doodle Dandy and Dixie. It may sound crazy but you could clearly hear the two songs being played at the exact same time!

  • That is very good One more, please

  • ALBERT LEE........IS ONE OF THE FINEST GUITARISTS ....IN THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT ....TODAY!

  • Love Albert but that thin Strat tone just stinks up the jernt!

  • Who the hell was the one dislike?

  • Holy. Fucking. SHIT!

  • wow! 3 masters.

  • STFU, Clown! I didn't say he sucked or anything. i know he was a great player I just said i don't find his playing exciting. It's a matter of TASTE. Deal with it!

  • Don't know what to say except just awesome! A privilege just to watch all three on one stage!

  • Woah, way too much guitar love for this guitarist to stand! I love it!!! Whew! Look out now. Peace. : )

  • I love the way they're not playing over eachother, just jelling amazingly

  • Just Great!! what more can you say!

  • I said it before..I'll say it again..this performnce was wasted on this audience. There are a million people who would have paid their left nut to be there to hear those 3 guys.

  • James Burton is the man

  • Chet was a very controled guitarist. He didnt show alot of emotion or body movement. His performance was about the music and not him per se. He has stated he didnt like to improvise a performance. He did believe in not playing a song the same way but he liked to work out his part before. I personally think he was more emotional in his playing than he let on. I do agree how cool it is that these guys share the spotlight. His skills speak for itself. 50 years of being Mr Guitar dont come easy.

  • Damn the cable! We've missed 20 seconds of a solo because of the little shit!

  • Chicken Pickin' 101, fellow guitarists !

    Watch and learn....

  • Yeah...what a trio there !

  • The joy of playing together. I like the way they smile when someone else is soloing.

  • The G3 of Chicken Picking Virtuoso!!!!...awesome

  • 1 person hasn't got a woman

  • the three are superior guitarist

  • that's the best looking retirement home i've ever seen

  • Comment removed

  • how old this him??

  • Love this :x

    Thanks a lot !!!

  • I thought albet lee was black .....

  • @FIRECRACKER392 ....you ever heard of black guy maned Albert...????

  • @totruful ,

    well apparently i thought i had ..........

  • @totruful umm i hope thats a joke, have you actually never heard of albert king?

  • @FIRECRACKER392 He used to be, until he moved to Nashville.

  • This is great! I love Chet!!!

  • 3 GIANTS!!

  • Elvis sang rock classics from the '50s and '60s, which did not require more complex guitar solos. I think playing guitar in concerts of Elvis, James Burton could not show its full potential. He could have played in any rock band of the 70s and 80s and well, it is an excellent guitar player. He is on the level of the great guitarists in the world.

  • Add a little caffeine to Chet and you hear Albert.....pour some sweet maple syrup on that and it sounds like James Burton...any way you have it this is DELICIOUS don't ya think so? Thanks cekamania for sharing this gem!

    LauraUSA

  • @lauratwo16

    Yes, you're right.

  • @lauratwo16 It's a good way of sayin it.

  • Is it just me or is Chet Atkins the most sterile masterful guitar player there is. James Burton takes such brilliant calculated creative risks with his playing and it's as though God is shining a light upon him when he plays. Haven't listened to much of Albert Lee, sounds technical, in the good sense.

  • @coupelikeacaravan No it's not just you. Chet was very stationary and seemed to have cultivated looking emotionless on stage, but of course when you're his class, anything goes.

Albert _is_ technical. He's mainly a bluegrass/blues player, but he's been all over the templates and done well with all of it. He does have a glaring weakness though, some of it showing here: His gigs tend to devolve into displays of just how fast he can play, and while impressive it tends to hurt the tunes a bit.

  • @coupelikeacaravan It's not just you. I've always found Chet's playing kind of unexciting too.

  • @deadenddude Chet's playing is unexciting just like the Mona Lisa, the Taj Mahal, and your first kiss. No fireworks or sirens, but you'll never forget it. Even if you wanted to.

  • @deadenddude ) How about YOU putting up a video on Youtube and let us see how exciting your playing is! It is hilarious that fools come on here criticizing excellence when they can't even plat "Marry had a little Lamb".

  • what a treat

  • yyyyyyyjaaaaa!!!!!!!!!

  • All three are just amazing. I saw Albert Lee years and years ago as Clapton's "second" guitarist. Eric barely seemed to WANT to play, trying to keep up with that phenom!

  • chet is a fuggin beast

  • Looks like Gregor really knows his guitars,Gibson or Fender.

All the best with your Telecaster.

  • Outstanding

  • @christopauls burton played so good that he MADE fools of the others

  • burton made fools of the others

  • @1mrguitar2 There are no fools on that stage.

  • GODS

  • Throw in Jerry Reed and It would be Instant Orgasm!

  • BUNCHA AMATEURS!!!

  • Have never heard of Albert Lee or James Burton before, but, man, what a trio.

  • @TheFloridaPappy

Three of the best,no doubt about that.

If you want hear an unkown (to most) blues guitarist check out Gregor Hilden

with his 1959 Les Paul Gibson. He plays the sweetest guitar sound known to man.

  • @Frank5133 Gregor sold me a Custom Shop Strat in Fiesta Red, Looks and plays like a dream.

  • @colinfilthy Sorry,I meant Strat.

  • Great work good job. 5/5

  • some stage hand got his ass whupped for that electrical short from an amplifiar right in the middle of a show OR - Albert stepped on his guitar chord - whoops!

  • James the man!

  • There´s one dickhead who didn´t like the video.

  • @Raulin2007 There has to be one!!!! not me!!!!!

  • ;D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D super trio;) mr. Chet 4ever

  • Just wonderful!

  • Have mercy!!!!!!!!! Phenomenal!!!!!!!!! A lot of these young whippersnappers need to see this. lol.

  • check out :26 Best Blues and Jazz Guitarists

  • They have to have done more than this one tune, but where to find it? This is awesome stuff!

  • that's fucking awesome how can a human being play like this? without a thousand fingers at each hand? :D

  • Albert Lee: "Marty! The flux capacitor!"

  • this is awesome

  • Where's was that filmed at? A mall?

There are people walking around behind them, like, "duh Mabel are these socks on sale"?, seemingly oblivious to the sweet sounds and history being made coming from just ten feet away! Amazing.

  • @Laverdadduele1 I'm thinking that's the Opryland Hotel.

  • hi there, arn't they just BRILL.... i have a guenuine thumb pick given to me of chet atkins....had it for years... regards ernie.

  • figata!!!

  • Those people were in luck that morning.

  • very very very good!

  • What a blessing that we have recording technology to keep the now still fingers of Chet Atkins and so many musicians of our era able to thrill generations to come.

    Tom Loughlin Jr, Utica NY

  • legends!

  • 1:04

  • 1:04

  • That red Tele looking hot!

  • Was James Burton in Elvis s band during his las vegas years?

  • @GJR1975 yes

  • @GJR1975 Yes. He was in the band until the end (1977) :)

  • @GJR1975 yes he was from 1969 till 1997

  • fantastic

  • It don't get any better than this.

  • Smoother than teflon dipped in honey...

  • wow, i thought jimmy page was good, i see where he comes from, hahaha

  • respect!!!

  • 25 mei a.s. kun je James Burton in levende lijve zien en horen in het Paard van Troje te Den Haag!!

  • is the man in the middel chet or the wan on the left caus the other one is albert lee

  • @siemjelle The guy on stage right is James Burton, Chet in middle and on stage left is Albert Lee. If you ever saw Elvis live (or video) from late 60s until he died, James was his lead guitar player and famous for his pink paisley Telecaster, of which a signature model by Fender was released in the early 90s. Of course, Chet has his "Country Gentleman" model, seen here, and Albert also has a signature model (I am unsure of the date of this broadcast but it is identical to the guitar seen here.)

  • Albert's main influence was James Burton, but both were influenced by Chet. Thousands upon thousands were influenced by these three including me. Love it, even Albert's amp screw up--that's live performance for you. Smooth, slick, and tasteful.

  • No matter who plays with The Master, they sweat bullits. I don't care if it's Harrison, Richards, Knoffler, Lee, Burton, Benson, Reed, (add any name here). They all wind up watching him.

  • "3 Premier guitar players" is really a huge understatement here! Legendary Icons one & all is way more apppropriate. I still have their verse running thru my head non-stop!

  • @lauratwo16 What's more is that each one of these guys was genuinely in awe of the other two.

  • @moproducer Absolutely. "Holy Father" Chet holding a "high mass" for guitar with 2 of his favorite "alter boys"!

    r.i.p. Chet Atkins.

    LauraUSA

  • @lauratwo16 I'd say they're at least Bishops. This performance is epic. r.i.p. Chet. You left a hole that will NEVER BE FILLED.

  • Grandissimi

  • The guy in the middle is George W Bush.

  • @desertphilip

    Bush can't play a guitar.

He has trouble just playing with Play-Doh.

  • @firewalled1951 Spoken like a true idiot

  • The guy in the middle is George W Bush.

  • cool

  • Pretty cool - but I kind of wished they'd finale'd by setting fire to their guitars, kicking shit out of their amps and then off to the tour-bus to spit-roast a groupie ;)

  • no mistaking live music. Some body's amp is humming.

  • This is an impossible dream. My god...

  • LOVE that unmistakable Telecaster twang of James Burton. All their pick'n styles are just too awesome together & individually as well!

  • The one missing here is Les Paul... he would have fit in perfedtly

  • Thank god Brent Mason is not there. He would try and blow them off the stage...

  • let s not forget "elvis;s "original guitar player "... scotty moore "!

  • absolument vraie... ce sont de monstres de la guitare....

  • Thats Great! They are just missing Brent Mason and that would be the 4 biggest legends!

  • Brent Mason who?

  • 2:03 :D

  • I love that, thx a lot for sharing !!!

  • What a line up?

  • James Burton had played for Ricky Nelson (Mary Lou), too. Just another great Rockabilly Country guy.

  • Extraordinary James Barton!!! Great guitarist of the king of the Rock'n roll Elvis Presley!

    I add 5 * * * * *

    Valerio

  • do it

  • James Burton makes that guitar his bitch.

  • @Benj888 You're stupid

  • ...also an inspiration for Gerry McGee of THE VENTURES too...

    :-))

  • Chet Atkins is OUTSTANDING!!! He is also the main inspiration for many musical artists including "NOKIE EDWARDS" ....(the Lead guitar player for THE VENTURES)!!

    5X5 STARS!!!!!!

    A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+A+

    Thanks, ~ Matt ~

  • Damn that is sweet

  • Out f***ng standing !

  • I really Love what these guys can do..but when Burton plays..I cry...that guy has the guitar heart and soul of no one i can think of...

  • Just Fabulous!!!

  • let me get this off my chest.....that is your opinion.

  • Gods united

  • chet atkins is the greatest

  • Its ok.

  • Chet's style is unique. You can copy him and imitate him and people did (JJ Cale, Knoffler and other), but never quite the same

  • James Burton is Country.

  • this video is on my favorites and i watch it all the time and read the comments...there's no reason, as good as these guys are, to criticize the talents of Roy Clark..who was a great musician and picker...it's not a competition here..we all love the guys for what they can do.....and we're grateful that we can still relive their greatness...nuff said.

  • Priceless II

  • Chat is a legend. James and Albert are....well...amazing....kings of kings.

  • guess which one of these 3 good ol' boys hails from a medieval town in deepest rural England...

  • Albert Lee, regardless of where he is from, he's a legend, and clearly two of the greatest think so to.

  • bends at 1:03 were very nice...sounding like a slide guitar...

  • absolutely three of the very best pickers

  • These guy's should be locked up an never let out.

  • yeah, using cryogenic so that they will stay like this forever

  • I said it before..I'll say it again...this performance with these guys was totally wasted on this audience...they had NO idea what they were witnessing

  • May Roys' pickin grinin' banjo come down hard on all thy critics skulls!...these cats are scootin'!

  • I could sit and watch Albert Lee, Chet Atkins and Brent Mason git a gut all day!!

  • Now... My Friend... THAT'S some REAL chickin pickin goin on there! :) Fantastic.

  • Roy Clark?? LOL!!! Steve Wariner would have fit in well. But not Roy.

  • I love how Chet dials up the intensity when he's surrounded by other great players. He was always very competitive in his own quiet way.

  • Absurdly classic chicken pickin...

  • greatness inspiring greatness

  • I've said it before...these guys were wasted on this audience...some of the best licks ever

  • Some might fine chicken-pickin' going on there!

  • totally agree.

  • Well, you gotta step it up a notch when you're playing with Chet.

  • Too bad Roy Clark didnt jam on this too.Roy and these 3 guys are the best at this style period.Amazing.

  • Roy Clark has no place with these guys. He would even tell you that!

  • Why wouldn't Roy fit in with these guys? Are you referring to the chicken pickin exercise?? Roy is among the best string instrument players to ever live, imho.

  • Roy Clark is one of the best entertainers. That said, he is not one of the best pickers. He doesn't have the skill. He's certainly better than a lot of people, but he just doesn't fit with these people.

  • These three guy are among my favorite players of all time. Roy might have a somewhat different style (reminds me of Danny Gatton). That said, look up this video here on YT by Roy.

Roy Clark - Alabama Jubilee (tv)

  • Wow. Truly a gathering of the greats. Too bad they only did this song, they should have made several albums together.

  • Blo..dy embarrasing....hehe

And then having to be shown the chords...

  • All 3 are Fantastic but Albert is awesome

  • I think I've watched this clip about 100 times...and I've decided Burton's solo is my favorite..even though I think the world of all 3

  • Chet genuinely surprised me. Awesome.

  • Personally I perfer Chet's playing the most...considering he didn't do any of his trademark sweeps, he was still incredible technically, and I don't think anyone can challenge him melodically.

  • Watch and Listen to Tommy Emmanuel. Chet/Travis/Lee/Burton/Reed were the pioneers but Tommy Emmanuel took what they did to the next level. He's cleaner, more energetic, every bit as melodic etc. The best ever. Just my opinion though. (and he mostly does acoustic work)

  • I disagree tommy certainly is not as smooth. I love tommy he is great, but these guys are muscians, Tommy is a showman. he will tell you the same. Don't get me wrong tommy is a great player.

  • Honestly I could listen to these guys play all day long. Can you imagine an album by that trio? I WOULD BUY ONE. In my opinion it doesn't get any better, this is top of the line...period! We miss you Chet. How could anyone not like Albert? He's fantastic! In my humble opinion JB is the man, but heck fire they are ALL beyond great !!!

  • 100% agreed. So nice to see Burton step in and rescue the day in a case of all's well that ends well. So smooth and professional on all their behalfs.

I wonder what Albert did to unplug himself?

  • Look at Albert Grinning when James starts jamming. They are all GREAT, but I'm sorry folks James Burton is THE MAN!
