King George III, the King who reigned during the American Revolution, and his wife Queen Charlotte lived in Buckingham House. They had 15 children and used the house as their private residence. Nearby St. James Place was kept as the official seat of the court. Queen Victoria, George's granddaughter made Buckingham Place the official royal residence when she was crowned in 1837.
Thanks. I must have been thinking about the wedding date when I was writing about her death. According to the Offical Buckingham Palace guide book, King George III moved into the Palace in 1762. Fourteen of his 15 children were born there. It became the offical London residence in Victoria's time.
