In Kendo and other Japanese sword arts, the "sword" (in whatever form) is held with the left hand toward the bottom of the sword, and the right hand up toward the hilt, with the left foot back and right foot forward. Thus, you would be holding the sword "left-handed). Obviously, since this is an exercise routine you want to do both sides, but just wanted to give an historical perspective.
