  • Hi Steve. Love your show. You seem to be quite happy with your N97 mini and classic. Perhaps for one of your shows, can you show us how you configured these phones to work with the integrated and assisted GPS? Everything on my N97 works well except that I cannot get a lock using my GPS no matter what I do.

    Thanks.

  • Do you have the new GPS antenna or the old one? If the latter, you need to get it replaced with the new shielded one. Gets between 3 and 6dB more signal etc.

  • Thanks for your reply, Steve. I did not get the GPS antenna replaced yet. I lost the receipt for my N97 purchase, and the

Nokia Care Center won't accept the phone for inspection! (This should really be a recall issue at this point on Nokia's part.)

  • There's always the DIY fix (Google it!).... Would do this myself if out of warranty.

  • Wow! I had no idea there was this DIY fix. I see that there are a few DIY methods to choose from. Any fellow N97 owners and watchers of Steve's show have a preference for which DIY fix is best?

  • Hey Steve, I'm thinking about a "user testimony" about my iPhone. Would you air it? Maybe I'll put in a mention about my wife's E63 :)

  • Sure thing, I'd LOVE to have that.

  • My N97 crashed and the hard reset wont work :(

its in for repair, I hope wont take long.

Steve - Look up the phone Nvidia are making - the 12MP with more power than a nuclear warhead, maybe you can do a "keep ya eyes out for 2010" show

    Keep up the good stuff

  • Nice to see some people use the N810 :) (at 11:30 )

  • Hi steve,

I think its amazing what you are doing! I always check if you have a new show and your advice on the n97 mini was really good.

I bought one and i have it for about a week, and the phone does everything i can imagine. Mail, good web browsing, good music player, decent video player, nice camera, good touchscreen and software.

And i love sending text messages with it!!

Thanks for the great tip, i hope you read this, keep doing what you're doing!

    Greetings

    Jasper

  • "Perhaps my myth-busting has tempered your gadget lust for now."

My lust remains untempered! At the end of it all, I'll be whipped up in a whirlwind of all the cellphones I've loved and left in the second circle of hell. I accept that. I'm fine with that.

Besides, it's just because God's pissed that his app got rejected by Apple.

  • with regards to myth 9, maybe some people dont have 300 or 400 or even more ££££s to just handover at once for a phone

  • I appreciate that, but buying phones in 'installments' (effectively what contract phones become) usually works out MORE expensive in the long run, unless you happen to be a heavy voice/text user.

i.e. people with less money should, paradoxically, save money by buying phones outright. If the piggybank is up to it 8-)

  • Hi steve,

Thanks first of all for including my story in the show, i agree with you regarding the capacitive screen and megapixels myth and operator contract what could have been a nice experience with the phone is hampered by the contract and branding.

  • Great show Steve and how right you are about the myth stuff.

  • @stevelitchfield

hey steve when will you give us the N900 review??? I need it bad. lol but ya i am getting a pretty nice tax refund and have more than enough. Currently i am using the worst motorola on planet earth. its bad. but ya let me know when i can expect the review. no pressure by the way. it will come when you are ready. thanks

  • N900 review will be in show 101, along with Nexus one. Jon from Phoneage is going to be the main guy for this (though I'm assisting with the script), guesting on The Phones Show as an experiment 8-)

  • ehm hey mr litchfield is there any chance that the nexus one its belguim without a plan because it is illegale here to sell phones on contract so could you help me out plz great show keep up the good work

  • steve can u tell me what rezolution must have the videos on n900 ?

  • For playback? Just about any other than HD? Anyway, watch for the review etc.

  • 1:24 looks like iphone

  • Like others, I had a real problem with battery life on the iphone and I was staggered discovered a couple of months ago that it's hugely down to push email. I was amazed to nearly triple my battery life by switching off push email and going to hourly imap. Agree: you definately don't need push email (on the iphone at least).

  • Steve I'm a big fan of your show!

I watched every single phone show you made, cong for your 100's episode!

A year ago,I was searching and waiting for the appropriate phone for my needs,i wanted a phone to write my journeys and to have a good keyboard,i went to orange store cause they put a live phone to play with,so i spotted the Nokia e72 ,i loved it,it has a very very good build quality and its the most fastest phone i ever used!

Could you tell me if i should buy the e72, Please !

    Hany

  • Yes, it's a great choice as long as you don't mind Podcasting not being in the firmware...

  • I'm a Nokia 5800 user an recently i saw 5800 navigation edition. It has fantastic chrome & mat plastic housing and i was wondering if it is possible to buy that housing anywhere to replace my existing one.

  • Love the show! But I disagree with your opinions sometimes. I bought a Nok 5800XM here in the states, but after months of using it I just don't like it.

Whatever company marketing says, I actually do want a large, capacitive touch screen. It fits my tastes! As I have learned from using a small-ish, resistive screen with buggy software.

  • Noted. But do upgrade your 5800 over the air to the latest v40 firmware - makes a big difference.

  • What do you think of the BlackBerry 8520 steve...worth a look for a budget conscious buyer?

  • Oh, probably. But I haven't seen one in the flesh....

  • 100 Episodes! Time for celebration!

Thanks for doing the show steve!

  • Also, I don't need a 5 inch screen and a phone that feels like a brick in my pocket. What happened to mobility? Am I the only one that like the lightweight candybars?

  • I'm glad you brought up Xenon, I've been irritated that I can't find a decent phone these days that have a Xenon flash. Years ago I had a k810i and it was probably the best camera phone I've ever owned. However today I need a bit more than just a camera. Sadly it's hard (while it shouldn't be!) to find a phone with xenon, 3.5 mil audio jack (preferably STANDARD connectors everywhere on the phone such as mini-USB) and 802.11g wireless. Am I asking too much manufacturers?

  • @Steve

You have obviously NOT USED A NEXUS ONE! You'll have a hard time bashing it and telling the world a Nokia is better.

  • Umm.... Eh? Where did THAT comment come from? As it happens, A Nexus One gets here on Tuesday, for full review in Phones Show 101.

  • Indeed, I am agree with your facts against myths for 'needs of the features in phone' and that is the reason after N97,N97 mini,HTC TP2, N900(myth-touchscreen is clunky and not user friendly and accurate), E72(myth-I need latest phone but buggy early firmware) finally back to E71(1. price-$230 for unlocked, very stable firmware and 3.2MP decent camera and great battery life with superb build quality and 100% one handed operation) Thanks steve for helping me to save money 8-)

  • and of course you agree with the Blackberry Top 10 [grin]

  • I slightly disagree about Xenon, they can't be used as torches. I used my LED flash in the attic and it was better than the dodgy light already up there.

    But to each his own.

  • Ideally, as on the Satio, you'd have Xenon AND LED 8-)

  • I like your vids u have good idea and views about phones :-) very interesting

  • congrats Steve Keep going.........

  • Congrats Steve for the Century!!!! One of the Best Phone Buying Guide I can find on the internet ... truly common user/customer centric..hats of you!!!!

  • congratulations to the 100th phone show steve!! :)
