I posted ins this forum long before seeking suggestion on the cities I would like to move. Now it is being 8 month and I am living in Melbourne. I love this city. The roads are reasonably clean with greeneries. Lovely parks and BBQ places. Tram/Bus/Train network is great! One of my colleagues was living in Sydney and he came visit me. He told I would like Sydney over Melbourne.
infact hell of a racist town , skinheads everywhere and so so nazi prone ,
they just wouldn't show you what they did to the aborigines people , how they contested to chop off as many aborigines children head as they could whose body were buried alive underneath ground except their heads , and how they enjoyed watching aborigines suffered to death after they took their penis and testicles away by bare hands , and ofcourse they would gang rape a aborigines women and tear her vag into pieces
Melbourne is the white trash capital of the world. OMG there are soooo many trashy low class people in this city. There is sooo much anti social behaviour, crime and vandalism, graffiti, litter. A relentlessly ugly city.
Yep! I love MELBOURNE..the ppl are real nice and friendly. I recognise the places n enjoy the weather too except around summer in December when it gets warmer. Been there 6 times, and counting. The brownies @ Vic market r the best.
Melbourne is much better than Sydney. Sydney sucks. It lures you in with the false promise of riding on a Hydrofoil and guess what....no freaking Hydrofoils. It's unjust. If you want to know more check out "Hydrofoil - The Musical" (shot in Sydney)
What the hell are you on about? Melbourne is a 2nd-world shithole. No significant landmarks. Mid-20th century public transport. Full of homophobics who think 1943 is the place to be. Who the hell cares about Hydrofoils? Sydney has "the harbour", does Melbourne have a harbour? Putting buildings next to a shit slow moving pile of sludge called the Yarra does not constitute a harbour. Melbourne has no real beaches either. Idiot, the world doesn't run on hydrofoils, stupid monkey.
@bryanite What am I talking about? Hydrofoils. You are right that the world doesn't run on Hydrofoils. That's the problem Lady. The Habour was good but they had to get rid of the best part. The problem was that the habour was too piss weak for Hydrofoils. They barely got Foilborne apparently. That's why they should put Hydrofoils on Port Philip Bay.
Sydney is shit! Melbourne is the city that has been rated as the sports capital of the world and the fashion capital of Australia including the IT capital of Australia!
Sydney has nothing but homeless people and crime, Sydney is known as a prison colony! should i send a link??
Melbourne also has Australia's fastest internet speed at 100mbps, Sydney only has 30mbps, and Melbourne has a public bike hire system, Sydney doesn't, and, China are building a Melbourne Town in china based on Melbourne! remember, i can post links???????????????????????
if you are a newcomer to Melbourne, aka, Crimeland you should take the advice of the Victoria police chief and I quote "look as poor as you can...Don't display your iPods, don't display your valuable watch, don't display your valuable jewellery. Try to look as poor as you can to avoid being assaulted..." Beware there is rampant, serious and vicious crime in this city
Sydney's also an expensive place to live. Otherwise there's little difference between them. Where you want to live in Melbourne on the otherhand depends on your intentions here and on your financil standing.
The weather in Melbourne is random and unpredictable. Melbourne is far from having the best weather in Australia. But in terms of people, food, entertainment and modernism, Melbourne is the most superior. So ask you self what is more important, the weather, or the quality of the city you plan to live in?
What's so good about Melbourne people? They disrespect minorities of society, e.g. Indians and people who's sexual preferences may not be deemed as "conservative". In other words, Melbourne are full of racist hompobics. Homophobia & trams = mid-20th century, so much for "modernised" eh? Rubbish. Melbourne has no significant landmarks and is prone to natural disasters, e.g. bushfires, "worst storms in a century", it's due for an earthquake soon. I'll be laughing when that does XD
I've lived in Melbourne nearly all my life, I've never been assaulted or attacked and I've walked down dark empty alleyways in the heart of the city at 2am. IMHO Melbourne has more attractions/distractions than Sydney however Sydney's visual appeal on the waters edge is very high, if you can afford to live there that is. Sydney's more colourful with fashion, Melbourne tends to be very grey. Melbourne is renown for its restaurants and night life.
And i see many people like Melbourne , but the only thing that stops me to go to Melbourne are people who say Melbourne is booring , a lot of crime there
if you are a newcomer to Melbourne, aka, Crimeland here are some words of advice from the Victoria police commissioner and I quote "look as poor as you can...Don't display your iPods, don't display your valuable watch, don't display your valuable jewellery. Thanks for your comment. Could you please explain what kind of issue I may face in Melbourne? I really think Melbourne got maximum vote in my poll. But I need to know the pros and cons. Please help me.
Hi guys, just need an honest opinion. I am planning to move to Australia soon (Next Jan/Feb). I am a Software Engineer and planning to get a job there. I have no plan where to go, but Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane might be an option for me. I like to be in a nice city with good job. I need your suggestion which one should I choose?
There's a lot of options in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, for work and housing and stuff. Perth is a nicer city to be in, but housing there is hell expensive I think. The Gold Coast is near Brisbane, and has really nice housing and stuff, and awesome place to be. Personally I think Darwin is the nicest, I'm there right now on holiday, but as a software engineer you might not find that much work there.
golpata DONT move to perth if you like big cities. Everything is backward in perth and a Software Engineer i dont think would be able to handle the countryness. Move to Melbourne. Its so vibrant. Sydney is right behind it but i wouldnt say its as good. Brisbane comes lucky last
I would say Melbourne. Brisbane is a little... Dull. No offense! And Perth is kind of like a faux big city. It seems all big and bustly but as WantToBeAmerican1 said it's really country.
Thanks for the reply. As I am a Software Engineer and need to seek job, I think Melbourne or Sydney is my option. I guess Brisbane is okay too but job option is not that great as that of Sydney and Melbourne. As a foreigner I would like to be in a multi cultural suburb. Could you guys give me some suggestion which would be a right suburb for me to rent a home? I would mostly consider a suburb as a good one which is secured, people are friendly/cultural,have great library, gym, park, etc.
If you want Multi-cultrilisim then go North, and North/West Suburbs of Melbourne,
Keep away from the south! haha.
BTW Melbourne is the 3rd most livible city in the world, so if your thinking of Living in either Melbourne or Sydney, then pick Melbourne. And you will be pleasently surprised, the city is just as beautiful at dusk as the Harbour City.
Why did you suggest to be away from South. Some ppl suggested the the south suburb is much better like St. Kilda, Brighton, Caulfield, etc. Could you please explain in detail?
Melbourne is a lot lower cost in buy than any other state, that is also why it is so liveable! plus Melbourne having Australia's biggest shopping centre and being fashion capital of Australia, also the sports capital of the world and the IT capital of Australia
Although I love Sydney and think it's a great place to visit, and live provided you can afford to live around the bay, I do think you're on the right track setting sights for Melbourne. Sydney can be a bit expensive sometimes.
As for Melbourne suburbs, I would suggest maybe Brunswick, or similar/near.
It's multicultural, connected to the tram network, and well known for it's indie scene.
Basically, a good place to make a start.
(Lickmylovepumpp is right, stay away from Frankston... it's a hole.)
Melbourne is great apart from the weather. i spent a year there and it felt like i was still in England, in fact the Isles of Scilly where i grew up is much better weather than Melbourne, every day bright warm sunshine with its Sub-tropical climate. yet us english get a load of shit about the weather being constantly bad. London is the best city in the world and York the most beautiful.
public places in Melbourne- trains, buses, train stations, airports, public toilets, etc- are sooo dirty and disgusting and far below the standard of Europe and North America. What a disgrace!
at the start that was what it was like at flinders station when i went here( over crouded busy and the toliets were horrible and yuck thry stank and it wasn't a good impression of melbounre for me!
but other than that it was awsome!!!! go to melbourne!
Most Melbourne suburbs look like the very worst parts of Los Angeles: the parts where poor Mexicans live in ugly run down brown brick bungalows and park their cars on the front grass.
dude ive been there over 7 times!!!! i make my own Judgements... And Gold Coast cant even keep up with there own growth!!!!!! Newcastle has better transport!!!
Yeah but nobody is moving to Newcastle... people are actually moving to GC.
GC can keep up its growth easily. It is only a young city, as it gets older there will be infrastructure developed. Because of the GC hinterlands, it can't sprawl. So that means higher density living, less need for massive projects on rail, bus routes etc.
Tell me what part of Brisbane is anything like LA. I live here.
I don't see any gangs. I don't see any poor mexicans and hispanics. I don't see decentralisation, I don't see massive highways and spaghetti roads criss-crossing everywhere.
Most Melbourne suburbs look like the very worst parts of Los Angeles: the parts where poor Mexicans live in ugly run down brown brick bungalows and park their cars on the front grass.
Bentleigh, Chelsea, Dandenong, Narre Warren, Frankston, Oakleigh, Knox, mount waverley, prahran, and on and on. They were all run down, dreary, dirty, shabby places
Chelsea, Frankston, Narre Warren, Cranbourne, Prahran, Oakleigh, Bentleigh, Knox, Preston, St Kilda and on and on they were all very run down, dreary, dirty, shabby places. The condition of these places is shameful for a country like Australia
Narre Warren and cranbourne are shit holes just like most Melbourne suburbs- ugly, run down brown brick homes, unkept yards, cars parked on people's front yard, vandalism, litter and graffiti everywhere, 3rd world style trains, the list goes on...
yep, thats the place, every big city has its ghetto, but Melbourne's suburbs are way nicer than most of ghettos in the world, including Europe and North America
your comment just proves how ignorant most of your population is: "oh look at me im a big fat american and i think im better than everyone!"
well you know what, over the last few years the rest of the world thinks america is extremely stupid so no one cares what you americans think. you comment is officially invalid, becuase you're american LOL
if you have just moved to Melbourne from a third world country and you long for home, just take a ride on one the trains. From the view out the window- dilapidated buildings, rampant graffiti and vandalsim, rubbish everywhere,- to the trains themselves- dirty, slow, smelly, antiquated, unreliable and plagued with crime- you will be convinced you are in your third world homeland.
If you like the color brown then you will love Melbourne. Everything is brown. Monotonous brown buildings, drab, run down brown houses and ugly brown yards and neighborhoods. Everywhere you look a sea of drab brown.
Not to mention the sport in melbourne, the top 10 biggest stadium in the world the M.C.G fits over 100,000 people, try going to an aussie rules footy match in a 60,000 + crowd the atmosphere is awesome, also melbourne has heaps of other stadiums and has the Australian open, F1 grand prix, the A.F.L grand final, and lots more others. MELBOURNE TRULY IS THE PLACE TO BE!!!
the weathers perfect, in the summer its always hot enough for the beach. and in the winter it might rain for an hour then turn out to be a 30 degree day. Roads in melborune are world class, wen i went sydney all these one way roads, its crap.
melbourne has to be the best city in the world, from a nice night out with family at lygon street, to a night out with mates at crown casino. also has heaps of great night clubs, and endless things to do. When i went for a holiday in sydney after 4 days it got boring, who cares about looking at some opera house LIKE OMG? ITS AN OPERA HOUSE?! the shopping in melbourne is the best in the world, 4/5 biggest shopping centres in australia are in melbourne.
Yeah, Sydney is just famous for there Opera House. but who cares like yes. Opera House ? .. I'm not intrested in Opera House and in Opera itself . it sux and as i heard some1 said that Sydney smells like fart or sth like that.:D
with google street view you can explore any area of Melbourne and you will see just how relentlessly ugly the city is. No matter where you look it's a sea of ugliness- run down homes, unkept brown yards, run down businesses, ugh. Kinda looks like Mexico.
Why don't we see were you low income class area is. Please write your address so we can laugh at it. Maybe you live above a pub, I suppose that would be more your style
hillbillies?? dnt knw wat ur talking abouts but yeah. Melbourne is still second place for the best most lived place in the world, 1st place is Vancouver...
Hillbilly is a term referring to people who dwell in remote, rural, mountainous areas of the United States, primarily Appalachia and the Ozarks you moron.
you might want to get an education instead of relying on Wikipedia for your information. "Hillbilly" in general is a disparaging term for an unsophisticated person, for eg., you.
So is that where you went to check it stupid. My explanation of a hillbilly is correct. I was educated in a private school, how about you?. You would no alot about being unsophisticated i'm sure, growing up in a low class suburb with inbred parents. You think your a cut above everybody else don't you. Oh you think you know it all asshole.
Oh and another thing. We don't get educated about hillbillies at school. You might because you need to learn about your own people, you see there are more important issues and subjects to learn about.
Melbourne is a crap hole suitable only for the crap hole gAyF.L supporting faggots who live there and know no better. Stay there fags nobody else wants you.
Its sad you've youtubed all the Melbourne videos to to tell the greatest city on the planet its a "shit hole". We are all sitting back, chillaxing in this beautiful sunny city while your trying to dig your self out of pile of stinky shit in Sydney.
You Melbourne people get so upset. You think everybody who put shit on Melbourne is from Sydney. And by the way it's you fuckers who always put shit on everywhere else. Just getting your own back. Go have a cry. (And I don't live in Sydney)
you OBVIOUSLY have never been to Melbourne...and if your gonna write bad comments about Melbourne and stuff you don't even know is true...then why did you even click on this video??? :S
I used to live in Melbourne so I have first hand knowledge that what Im saying is correct. Why comment on this video?
Im trying to save some unsuspecting tourist the unpleasant experience of visiting a complete and total CRAP HOLE. If you live in Melbourne you know no better but visitors from other countries will think all of Australia is total crap if they visit Melbourne.
Yes I made the mistake of visiting this crap hole for a week. Longest week of my life. Miserable rain, boaring self obsessed people, comedians observing the mundain then laughing at nausium at their own so called jokes. Footy players that fall over when the coach taps them on the shoulder to go on. To visit them is to hate them. Id only ever go there if I had to take a crap and every other dunny in Australia was broken.
If you visit Melbourne make sure you take the train from the city to one of the outer suburbs- any suburb it doesn't matter. You are in for a real treat!!! You will never in your life forget the ride.
Are there any building codes or zoning laws in Melbourne because that city is just one ugly suburb after ugly suburb with with very run down homes and businesses. There's no such thing as a leafy suburb in this ugly city
relax they are prolly from adelaide, perth sydney or some rival cities which compete with melbourne in forbes best cities in the world and are jealous and sore their fav cities kept losing out.haha sorelosers.

Melbourne is a shit hole. Run by corrupt politicians and militant police. Speed cameras everywhere. Cost of living sucks and theres no Water. Cigarettes cost $15.00 a pack and even though Victoria has a ton of natural gas, they charge exorbitant prices for it. Australians are so dumbed down its
unbelievable. Housing is unaffordable and there is no manufacturing base. A hell hole !
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
it's also one ugly city with suburb after suburb of cookie cutter, ugly run down red brick homes with poorly kept yards. Graffiti is everywhere, vandalism is rampant, and everything is soooo run down. Some suburbs look like they belong in the third world.
lol who the fuck is harmony224? in every youtube vid about australia theres always a comment from her slandering our country. talk about having nothing else to do :P
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Some Aussies seem to be deluded and brainwashed and incapable of thinking independently. All they know is to mindlessly repeat the mantra "Australia is the best place on earth, Australia is the best place on earth." Do this enough and if you are somewhat mindless you'll believe it just like all the other sheep.
nope. much more crime in britain...how many people have been stabbed to death this week??
media grab
"The slaying of Mr. Knox, who portrayed Harry Potter's schoolmate Marcus Belby in the popular wizard movies, was the year's 28th fatal stabbing in Britain and the 14th in London, which has seen more than 100 stabbings in the first five months of the year."
Australia has the highest burglary rate in the world; the highest car theft rate in the world; the highest crime victims rate in the world and the third highest rape rate in the world. This is according to nationmaster
Melbourne RULES!!! No matter where you are theres something to do!!! the heart of Melbourne is VERY NICE. and to be honest ive been to Canberra and Brisbane (not sydney) but i can say that Brisbane Center is nice but the Rest of Brisbane is a SHITHOLE!!! Melbourne is good everywhere!!!
im a canadian trying to figure out whether sydney or melbourne is right for me. I just graduated high school so i dont have any post secondary but would look to get it in australia.....any suggestions??
Ya I have been to many cities around the world- Vancouver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, London, Taipei and others but melbourne is by far the least unattractive place. The suburbs are especially awful; there seems to be no originality whatsoever in the design of homes and neighborhoods. The houses all look like they were made from the same set of plans. This and badly kept yards makes for an extremely dreary, depressing place.
The most boring city on earth. I don't know how a large city of over 4 million can be boring to this extend.

All of Australia is great expect Melbourne.
Melbourne has lot drunk teenagers going around bashing people. Melbourne police is useless, they have no clue to control alcohol related violence.
Melbourne can be very dangerous at night. Do not travel on train at night or walk on streets at night In Melbourne.
Sydney, Brisbane,Gold coast, Perth, Adelaide,Hobart, Darwin etc are very friendly and much safer then Melbourne.

Most Melbourne suburbs look like the very worst parts of Los Angeles: the parts where poor Mexicans live in ugly run down brown brick bungalows and park their cars on the front grass.
harmony224 2 years ago
Melbourne Suburbs are heaps good compared to every city i have visited...
and that sounds more like Brisbane! rather then Melbourne.... and Melbourne is 2nd Most Livable city.... Wheres LA on that list ???
seriouslyBENNETT 2 years ago
you're a fucktard you have never been to Brisbane
That sounds like LA... period
iskandar1111 2 years ago
dude ive been there over 7 times!!!! i make my own Judgements... And Gold Coast cant even keep up with there own growth!!!!!! Newcastle has better transport!!!
seriouslyBENNETT 2 years ago
Yeah but nobody is moving to Newcastle... people are actually moving to GC.
GC can keep up its growth easily. It is only a young city, as it gets older there will be infrastructure developed. Because of the GC hinterlands, it can't sprawl. So that means higher density living, less need for massive projects on rail, bus routes etc.
What part of Brisbane is anything like LA?
iskandar1111 2 years ago
Tell me what part of Brisbane is anything like LA. I live here.
I don't see any gangs. I don't see any poor mexicans and hispanics. I don't see decentralisation, I don't see massive highways and spaghetti roads criss-crossing everywhere.

thats why that area is the fastest growing place in Australia (it might be second though)

The Gold Coast is the fastest growing city in Australia...
Narre Warren & Cranbourne are urban sprawl lol. You like that??
iskandar1111 2 years ago
Narre Warren and cranbourne are shit holes just like most Melbourne suburbs- ugly, run down brown brick homes, unkept yards, cars parked on people's front yard, vandalism, litter and graffiti everywhere, 3rd world style trains, the list goes on...
harmony224 2 years ago
"3rd world style trains", uhuh right. Now where do you live again? Just because your country has no future, don't take it out on us.
and you're the same guy that says Australia has a crime problem. Now why do you think nobody takes your comments seriously?

if you have just moved to Melbourne from a third world country and you long for home, just take a ride on one the trains. From the view out the window- dilapidated buildings, rampant graffiti and vandalsim, rubbish everywhere,- to the trains themselves- dirty, slow, smelly, antiquated, unreliable and plagued with crime- you will be convinced you are in your third world homeland.

MELBOURNE TRULY IS THE PLACE TO BE!!!

harmony224 3 years ago
hillbillies?? dnt knw wat ur talking abouts but yeah. Melbourne is still second place for the best most lived place in the world, 1st place is Vancouver...
jeramii21 3 years ago
Hillbilly is a term referring to people who dwell in remote, rural, mountainous areas of the United States, primarily Appalachia and the Ozarks you moron.
ThePassenger80 3 years ago
you might want to get an education instead of relying on Wikipedia for your information. "Hillbilly" in general is a disparaging term for an unsophisticated person, for eg., you.
harmony224 3 years ago
So is that where you went to check it stupid. My explanation of a hillbilly is correct. I was educated in a private school, how about you?. You would no alot about being unsophisticated i'm sure, growing up in a low class suburb with inbred parents. You think your a cut above everybody else don't you. Oh you think you know it all asshole.
ThePassenger80 3 years ago
Oh and another thing. We don't get educated about hillbillies at school. You might because you need to learn about your own people, you see there are more important issues and subjects to learn about.
ThePassenger80 3 years ago
It's painfully obvious that you don't "get educated", as you eloquently put it, about a lot of things.

ChrisPCrunchy 3 years ago
This guy speaks the truth. He's right!! Melbourne is a total hole.
Max5941 3 years ago
Yes I made the mistake of visiting this crap hole for a week. Longest week of my life. Miserable rain, boaring self obsessed people, comedians observing the mundain then laughing at nausium at their own so called jokes. Footy players that fall over when the coach taps them on the shoulder to go on. To visit them is to hate them. Id only ever go there if I had to take a crap and every other dunny in Australia was broken.
CopiersOfficeEquip 3 years ago
If you visit Melbourne make sure you take the train from the city to one of the outer suburbs- any suburb it doesn't matter. You are in for a real treat!!! You will never in your life forget the ride.
