anyone know a similar song? I herd on Pandora radio what I thought was this song, sounded like the same exact music, same singing beat and the singer sounded exactly the same but the song was called something different, any ideas?
@IACTINMOVIES yea, could not fid them on youtube - only lame video shot from backstage.
I personally heard them on a Russian radio one day and one of my American friends managed to send me their album, but it was I believe 6 or 8 years ago.
@whynotchaos "Swing" is merely a more digestible umbrella term than "jazz", but the rhythmic composition is still vastly different, my own guess based on being a jazz bassist and music history student. Honestly, I don't really care, I'm just bored and randomly commenting on YouTube. :P
@eonalate112 I doubt that. Ska is more like streetlight manifesto, reel big fish, the mighty mighty bosstones. This sounds more like swing jazz to me. But this is technically a "big band", I was getting at the fact that more music needs to have a full horn section.
@RyanFalls No, this is not a big band. Big band is stuff like Harry Connick, Jr., Maynard Ferguson, Big Phat Band, among others. Trust me, I play in a professional big band.
@RyanFalls A cornet player and a saxophone player is a "decent sized" horn section? Wow, I can only imagine what you would call a full instrumentation.
@RyanFalls Traditional ska originated in Jamaica as an offshoot of New Orleans jazz and rhythm and blues. Listen to the Skatalites and you'll see early ska was basically a subset of jazz/R&B. The matter is irrelevant here, of course, as this is clearly jazz, just not swing (a la Ellington or Goodman); it's closer in style to the 1920s.
Fantastic. Love the song. Love the video. This is real music. How come more people aren't into this kind of stuff? When I was a kid I always insisted that I would never grow up complaining about modern music like my dad always did. However, music these days really is total shite!
What's this!? The female lead singer hasn't starved herself to skin and bones? She's not botoxed her face into oblivion? She's not flashing porny amounts of skin? Oh dear me, in that case her obvious talents are irrelevant, let us all rag on her!
Wanna know ALL the details of this song??? It's a funny story- go to kickstarter and search Tom Maxwell. He is writing about this song and about his son's cancer battle. Support great art!
@mulder19x95 Allow me to correcto you: swing's and big Band's gold era was 1920-1940. At that time, it started to decay. Other Jazz genere was appearing. Onwe with geniuses like Dizzy Gillespie and Cahrlie Parker. And that, my friend, that, among with the Cool Jazz era, was Jazz's Gold Era.
@Sadornicus the common classification for this music is "swing revival". The music style that they actual are reviving is the blues/jazz/bluegrass/klezmer/swing style from the 30's and 40's. Some other bands to check out are "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy", "The Brian Setzer Orchestra", "Cherry Poppin' Daddies".
What is this from? Is this a music video or something?
I actually like them a lot more than the other swing revival bands that they're lumped into (though I like them too). They're definitely more off-beat in a good way.
@romanpr1nce Oh, I see. I looked it up, and you are right. I guess I shouldn't believe everything I hear. She totally looks drag. In the end, it's great music, so I guess it doesn't matter either way! :)
@Scorpiatrix Interesting!! She looks better and more feminine (besides the baby bump) in the Sesame Street video. It was just her face in this one that made me question if the rumor was true...her body looked like a woman's. Doesn't matter, though. Great music! :)
sapphireprincess78: what rumours?? I just opened this video because in the picture preview seems like a 80's fag, so I wanted to check it out, and it turned out a woman; I was relieved...

One of my favorite albums. The only reason people don't like it is that it's associated with the Swing fad of the 90's. They're just a bunch of very talented people, and maybe they're just disappointed that the lead singer isn't hot.
@Oberpfaffofen I would agree, but I think all of that could also be applied to Royal Crown Revue too. I loved the music that came from that swing fad of the 90's. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and Royal Crown Revue are some of my all time favorite bands I wish they would release more music more often.
@Oberpfaffofen so were the Brian Setzer orchestra,Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and the Cherry Poppin Daddies. people don't like it because in the society we live in instead of great bands like these or the ones from the 40's like Glenn Miller or Benny Goodman we have Lil Jon,lil Wayne,Justin bieber, and Lady Gaga. that's what society today listens to. not good music but people with no talent who don't even write thier own songs their producers write it the music for them. =)
Absolutely agree :) I love Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, ever since I was a little kid. Same with Royal Crown Revue. And it's fucked up that all the really talented bands are swept under the table or in the shadow of Ke$ha and other manufactured music :\
@mulder19x95 oh put a lid on it (pun fucking intended). i'm sick of the "there's no good music anymore" rant. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Cherry Poppin Daddies don't have half the authenticity Squirrel Nut Zippers have, and saying that "society" listens to lil wayne and lady gaga is a gross over generalization. look past high school kids and you might see that there are PLENTY of people who spend their time trying to find great music, which is now actually much easier thanks to technology.
@glassbreaker5791 I must say that I'm offended by your "gross over generalization" of High School kids. I'm in High School and I'd rather shoot myself than listen to little wayne or lady gaga.
@ksmith8446 ah but you miss the point - that's not intended in any way to say "all high schoolers listen to lil wayne and lady gaga." thats my way of saying that this other cat is clearly looking at a different sample of people than i am, because i know very, very few people who take anything on the radio seriously.
@mulder19x95 That's not exactly true. I'm sure the 30s, and 40s had their share of soulless, crap music too. It's just forgotten today, just like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber will be 70 years from now. Look up the Billboard charts from the 60s and 70s. You'll find a lot of crappy pop songs were chart toppers, but are all but forgotten today. Your local classic rock station would never dream of playing much of it. They cherry pick the good stuff, and ignore the garbage from that era.
@mulder19x95 You are aware Lady Gaga wrote (or co-wrote) every single song on her 3 albums so far, right? Whine about the musical interests of a whole generation if you must, but at least get your facts straight first.
And dumb music is hardly unique to the last few years, people have been writing and performing awful music since long before any of it was recorded. Anyone commenting on a SNZ video is probably familiar with Stephen Foster, who was churning out vapid songs 150 years ago.
@andrewlenahan i mentioned her because she is the biggest popstar out there and for your information she writes her songs while on weed. she actually needs a drug towrite a freaking song.
@mulder19x95 Amen, brother. I had to explain to some punk kid who Chet Baker was, just the other day. And forget Bix Beiderbecke; they won't have a clue.
@Oberpfaffofen not really. Its just music from another generation, the 50-60s. Music is a fad, it changes from generation to generation. I dont like this music personally but modern people have just been poisoned on justin beiber, miley cyrus, the jonas brothers and all that stupid crap

@DravenLust55 Most definitely. She is a handsome woman. Personally, I think she's more attractive than those vacant pop "divas".
