@katzswoman just stop talking. they are figures of speech... they are used rhetorically. MANY great songwriters/writers use metaphors and exaggeration to diverge from literal text. or else a lot of writing would be boring and uninteresting. i guess you haven't ever picked up on that.. .
Cooley's absurdity conveys meaning and creativity........ your absurdity conveys that you're a simpleton.
bought this album 6 years ago & thought I didn't like it! What a massive mistake, just started listening a few days ago, its brilliant. Anything Mike Cooley does sends shivers straight through me. Saw them in UK when Jason was still with them. He jumped off stage and gave me a quick hug, treasured memories.
@stumadre This one in particular is my favorite.Mike Cooley is my fav DBT singer!!!!You can totally tell that they are all shit faced in this clip though.lol
They are opening for Tom Petty Tonight in cincy. Never seen them before but reminds me of Skynard. Should be a great concert, everytime I see Petty he rocks the place out.
@dennis276 Worst vocalist? I understand that this band has vocal styles that are a bit coarse for the mainstream-minded music fan... But Cooley's voice is awesome, period.
Have you even heard the album version? That's Cooley's voice on it. Stellar as ever.
@Madigan101st yeah I really like the Big To Do. I really like "The fourth night of my drinking". Hey I may have spilled a PBR on you that night...if so, sorry ;-)
Cooley is ever so gifted. His delivery and timing are very clever. I think he's gone beyond any of the big "Southern Rock" bands of the 70's & 80's. I seem to skip to the Cooley (and now Shonna) songs when I play their albums.
Listen to Isbell's leads in this. So tasteful!! I bet their gonna miss him. As a musician myself, he's one of my favorites. I heard that he is married to the bass player?
Dirt South is for my money the best all arund album. Decoration Day - the song itself - is by far and away my favortie song on a DbT album; but as an album - Cooley, Patterson, and Isbell are all hiting their stride in terms of songwriting on Dirty South.
Hard to say - soooo many good songs - this, Zip City, Gravity's Gone - too many anthems for one man to write - course, I think Jack Daniels co-wrote these with him.
This is a song about alcoholism and dealing with it on your own terms, knowning the damage it does both to you and the ones around you. Every line is the truth, and I'm glad somebody could figure out how to put the curse to music of two rockin' guitars...till I get this demon out.
"You know thw bottle ain't to blame and I aint trying to, It don't make you do a thing it just lets you" another great line from the DBT. These guys are so underated, great song writers, great musicians, everything!
Was reading about the Dixie Mafia on Wikipedia and it linked to Buford Pusser, and then how these guys did some songs about him So I YouTubed them and I am impressed. I hear Outlaws,GA Satelites, and of all things, a flavor of the old Clash. These guys are the real deal.
